Man, your city photography is awesome!! It’s always good to get out and shoot! What’s your city like for photography with a tripod and your canon? Do you get hassled by security much or can you shoot the city without too much concern?
@@mikesphotography Pretty much no concern tbh - we have a ton of mountains all around, the only problem is that some rooftops have military bases on them, and so do some of the mountains so they wont let you photography there cuz they dont want north korea seeing them somehow. Also you cant photography in the direction of the Blue House (Koreas version of the white house)
That's cool. We get hassled all the time here in dubai...bored security guards who think every one with a decent camera is on a commercial photoshoot...really frustrating. I was hoping to get more locations for this video but I kept getting moved on...near the Burj Khalifa they think I am a tourist so it's a good place to shoot! 😆

Super images and practical advice, Mike. Light displays can work well when planned well. Safety first for many cities at night - bring a companion for security. Vid about tilt-shift lenses would be welcome - hint, hint😀.

Thanks so much James! I’m hoping to get a trip to Iceland and Norway soon so I’ll be doing a video on that then if we get to see them. It all depends on how bright they are on the night. Yes, I’d set up for shooting the stars and then change my iso to suit. And if they were still overpowering, I’d start to shut my aperture down a little. Having it in the interval function would definitely help in getting a good sequence of shots so you could pick the best one and get a possible timelapse out of it as well if you stayed in one location for long enough. Yep, security guards are one of the things I didn’t mention...so annoying...I might have to do a compilation of all the move alongs I’ve had...when we leave! 😆 No professional photography without a permit sir...I’m doing this for fun...you need a permit for a big camera sir...this is a mirrorless basic model...it’s a big camera sir, big cameras are not allowed...I’m not doing a commercial shoot, this is just for fun...you need a permit for a professional camera...🤦🏻♂️
Hi Mike, some good tips there. Have you got a tip for reducing that horrible yellow cast from sodium vapour lamps? You seem to have it pretty well under control without having altered the white balance very much.
Thanks very much! In the hue/saturation/luminance HSL settings, you can play around with saturation and hue to get the yellow under control there. I really don’t like those lights that much, so it’s a good thing cuties are starting to fade them out. Thanks for watching! 😁👍
You need to camera on a tripod ... pick the cleanest bit of glass in the window ... turn all of the lights off in the room you are in, and if you can, put a black cloth over the camera and hold it up to the glass so it acts a bit like a matte box on old cine cameras ... this is the best way I have found to take photos from hotel rooms and skyscrapers.
