Since Jamie and Zoe seem to make appearances, let's hope that this means their memory restoration is at least semi-canonical. Now, I would say that their memory restoration also works well enough because it seems that this was something restored decades later, rather than shortly afterward

For the First and Second Doctors’ companions, they’ve seen what the show’s become while the Doctors didn’t. I think the BBC Centenary did a lot to say “You are always welcome” and they don’t have to be relegated to the audio dramas that have always been a little messy continuity-wise. Solid and firm TV appearances were what they needed, and they took their shot. I’m so glad they did, even as someone who hasn’t watched Classic as much I still have the attachment for what it built to. I also believe everyone matters and should continue their stories however possible.

One thing the 60th has over the 50th is better Classic Representation. Given I'm still bitter over the fact that Moffat wasn't allowed to use the Classic Doctors in Day of The Doctor, it's refreshing that RTD is giving Peter, Colin, and Sylvester a new platform to reprise their roles to commemorate the anniversary even if it's not in the main specials

Because Day of The Doctor is about the future of the show, no living in the past.

Moffat produced the Peter Davidson directed film where Davidson, C Baker and McCoy were trying to get into the 50th Magan was in it as well. It was well received comedy. Kind of sends up how the BBC treatment of the Doctors. Also T Baker is in the 50th and 9th Doctor is important for the set up of the War Doctor. So they do acknowledge classic who, including the big picture of all of them on the Tardis cloud at the end.

Just to say for the 3 Doctors, they could’ve also got Richard Franklin as Mike Yates! Yes he wasn’t in the episode, but he is the only other remaining regular cast member of her era, and who better for Jo to tell the story to, that being said I think it’s good they got Clyde, for the younger fans who grew up with SJA rather than DW.

My Head canon for Doctor Who is that if a time lord dies not on Gallifrey, that over a small amount of time his body regenerates an exact copy based upon the dominant species in the area with the same characteristics... Meaning that the doctors who died on earth returned as humans and had to spend their time without the Tardis as a Tardis will not recognize a non-gallifreyan commanding it. (This theory requires a lot of stretching to make it work, but basically it's designed to allow the original actors after aging to return as the "Doctor" for future stories, just not quite "The Doctor") Ultimately the goal is to try to come up with a way that you can tell Doctor stories with aging Doctors that still feel genuine.

I had seen The 3 Doctors a few times years ago on VHS when I was a kid or a teenager (can't remember which), but it was still nice to see it in Tales of the Tardis whilst linking Sarah Jane Adventures at the same time through Clyde's appearance in the bookend. And honestly? After me and my Dad finished the episodes, we went on to watch The 5 Doctors episode after that for the first time in years.

    BBC 2014-2020
Doctor Who is all about change. The people criticizing Missy and Jodie are exactly the type of people who years ago would have criticized Hartnell changing into Troughton. You have to accept that DW has only survived as long as it has because it is willing to throw EVERYTHING about its past in the bin. Those of you who say that the Doctor and the Master have core characterisations, and are upset at them being completely thrown in the bin to the point where they are now a literal parody of themselves "Curse of Fatal Death." Are just trying to impose limits on the show, and our writers creativity is simply too big to be restrained by things that happened in the 1970s. You have to remember not that many young people will have watched classic who either and that it was always terribly sexist, doesn't hold up and celebrated the male gaze. Also most of its fans were sad basement dwelling Dinosaurs and virgins anyway who hurt the brands image. We're reaching out to a new audience of young, hip, sexy, activist millennials and gen z kids here, look at our new diverse time team, that is the future of who fandom rather than stuffy old neck beards. Also I don't know about you but I think it is high time that women got a chance to be the hero for once in all of sci fi and fantasy.
    Results:
Viewers crash to 2 million, who fandom becomes a battle ground of everyone's political hang ups. DW using this new approach after 2014 produces a grand total of 4 complete series in 9 years. The same amount that the show produced from 1986=1995 when it was you know actually cancelled for most of that time.
    BBC 2022 = present
All of DW matters. We need to honor its huge past. Lets bring back every living companion we can in a final doctors story, even Ian Chesterton whose actor is now 100 years old. Lets do an entire mini series about all the old companions and Doctors, lets actually make the 14th Doctor an old Doctor, for the first time in its history, lets have the same leading man, leading lady, same director, same producer, same writer, same composer, same supporting cast (including a 95 year old man) from 2008, let's carry on story arcs from 2008, lets bring back old companions as recurring characters, even the ones whose eras didn't do well like Bonnie Langford. Gotta grab those nostalgia points and squeeze every last drop from the member berries. Let's bring back an old obscure one off villain from a crappy, wiped 60s story that actually uses the N-word.
Its important that DW honors its past at all times and that we show the fans that they are important, even those from the Hartnell era.
Hypocritical bastards. You have been earning money from that franchise... and if you keep it up, I hope you will burn for all eternity in hell.

I have mixed feelings about it. I thought some of the character moments were good, it was well acted and written I guess, the mentions of Victoria as reminder that Deborah Watling is no longer with us was a real gut punch. My problem is the "memory TARDIS" which looks cool, but the concept is utterly goofy and contrived. And yeah, I'm one of those guys you mention who will go out of their way to question the continuity of things and be uptight, because I like for everything to fit into one timeline, convoluted as that may have become. All that said, this does overall, despite good moments, feel like fanwank fluff for DVD extras, not any go out of your way must-see-tv, and that's coming from someone who's spent literally Thousands on Big Finish audios.

I watched Earthshock: I loved the bookends, but in between them it was an underwhelming way to present that story. I'm all for trimming it down to a punchier edit, but cutting out the episode breaks to make a single 90 minute episode turned it into a bit of a slog - there's only so many scenes you can watch of Cybermen standing around saying threatening things without any suspense-building pauses in the story.
And the ending was very disappointing: The silent end credits over a still of Adric's shattered badge is one of the most iconic moments of classic Who. It was a mad decision to skip it and cut straight back to the bookend scene. They chopped off the most poignant part of the whole serial!
Not to mention, if you're going to present one particular 5th Doctor story to show newer fans what's great about the classic show, surely you'd choose Caves of Androzani? Right?

    • @BulbasaurRepresent
      @BulbasaurRepresent Рік тому

The thing is, Androzani doesn't have Tegan - instead it would have to be Peri reminiscing. Which would then mean you need to do Mel for the Sixth Doctor, so what story do you want to be shown there? Terror of the Vervoids or The Ultimate Foe? And either way, without the context of Trial, a lot of it makes no sense.
Androzani is incredible, but it wouldn't have worked.
