Sally Albatross is the today Louis Cristal
In January 1990, while docked at the Finnboda Shipyard in Nacka, Sweden, for reconstruction of the ship's restaurants, nightclub and conference facilities, practically the entire superstructure of the ship was damaged beyond repair by a fire which had started from drops of liquid metal sparkling on flammable material. The ships' sprinkler system was turned off for the duration of the docking, fire hydrants were dry and the temporary fire water supply was disconnected. In addition to this the fire watchman left for lunch during the hot work. Due to the danger of gas bottles (oxy-acetylene used in the reconstruction) exploding in the heat, the fire brigade withdrew from the interior of two decks under reconstruction, after having rescued the two crew members that were missing during the initial phase of the fire. Further fire fighting was conducted from the outside and from the decks above and below the reconstruction work. As a result the ship burned extensively for three days.
All workers and crew (and an American actress who had been on board) were rescued by the fire brigade and a crane operator from the shipyard and no lives were lost
The ship was later rebuilt (1992) as a different ship with the same name on top of the remaining engine room and parts of the hull, as the engine room has been sealed off and automatically protected from the fire.
In March 1994 due to a navigational computer user error, the ship technically sank in the Baltic and was saved from a total destruction only by grounding it. Another extensive repair was performed on the ship. The bottom of the hull was cracked open at about 1/3 of its length as the ship had sailed over an underground rock at speed.
A true survivor of two serious accidents. Built in 1990-1992, she sails as Celestyal Crystal for the Louis Cruise Line now. I was on that ship on a cruise Helsinki-Tallinn-Helsinki a time before she sank. I think about another amazing and more unlikely survivor: the former Swedish ocean liner MS Stockholm (1948) that caused the sinking of SS Andrea Doria in 1956. She still sails as the oldest active ocean going passenger ship in the World. Her latest (and 11:th) name is MV Astoria.
this ship must be the olympic of cruise ferries
It is also interesting that at 11:46 you can see another ship, Birka Princess. This cruise ship sunk in Greece 2007.
Yes, renamed "Sea Diamond" the Birka Princess run aground on a well-marked reef near Santorini on april 5. 2007. She's still on the sea floor
@@qe2836 The TV series ”Rederiet” was filmed onboard Birka Princess

Actually , the former Sally Albatross replaced Sea Diamond. Despite this, she's still around, but laid up today due to the damn Covid 19.
