After seeing all the comments for this review, I went and checked out the 2016 Etios Liva VX Petrol. I must say that that the quality of plastics has improved and Toyota has added quite a few bells and whistles. In comparison with other shiny hatchbacks such as the i20 Sportz petrol variant, the Liva comes across as a more practical and value for money choice. Liva has amazing space and decent mileage in its class. It has good build quality and an NCAP rating of 4 stars for adult passengers. Yes, there has been some cost cutting done but the practicality aspect overrides these cost cutting measures. This is a good family car for city use and occasionally for long drives. This is Toyota's first shot at the volume game. The swifts and i20's might sell more but Toyota more than makes it up with its post sales service, low cost of ownership and reasonable features. Overall, I think that any car will need some time to evolve and I think Liva certainly has risen to the competition and evolved. QDR is the way to go :)
+Ravi Kiran We are yet to test the 2016 version of the Ethios, but yes it has always been a practical under rated car. The strong Toyota network is another huge plus point here!
How was your showroom experience?
+PowerDrift The wait period is 30 days for Liva Petrol Top end version. Apart from that, the experience was good. Good offers and pleasant staff at the dealership. 7.67 Lakh on-road for the top end Liva Petrol version. Now that Toyota is in the volume game with their establishment in the hatchback segment, they must up the features and quality further and probably price it better. I don't think they will get into the Compact - Sedan, Compact SUV segment. Toyota came across as the most conservative and utilitarian car company of all the other ones that I tested. It kind of boards well with my requirement and hence I went for the Liva.

This car is Phenomenal.......using from 2011 still acts like new one hetsoff Toyota

I think a lot of the general consensus is arising from the fact that people look at this car essentially as being a taxi. It then becomes difficult to take an unbiased look. Had you guys ended the video with listing out good + bad points then people would have been happy. But you ended the video with a "thumbs up" & people are not ready to digest that!

Yikes! We would happily quit motoring and never come back if we ever had any reason to succumb to any manufacturers pressure, or even take money from them to "rig" a review!!
Perhaps it also clarifies why we don't quite get cars as fast as a lot of others!

overall, good work guys.. i hope you do a comparison for mid-segment hatches - grand i10, etios liva, swift, polo, etc. after the grand i10 review comes out..
I think you guys are really doing a great job. However, if you identified all these short comings, giving a big thumbs up to the Liva is not something I can at least digest. I might not be an expert but I have read many users complaining about this car and hence I would not grade it at par with cars like the i20, Grand i10 or the Swift. Anyway, hope to see great reviews from you guys ahead.
Not complaining but this one felt as if Toyota gave you a memo and paid a little bit to make this one look good. But still enjoyed the review. You guys get a thumbs up as always from me :)

We apologize if it seems so! But would Toyota pay us for saying that the car lacks a decent audio system, climate control, the imprecise steering wheel, the engine noise and harshness if revved high, and the lack of a tacho, the body roll!

review was great but common mate its a toyota and you cant just expect toyota to do such a dull interior where you can see all the cost cutting. It lacks on various features. We are living in 2013 not in 1997 as it looks like one from inside.Indian consumer is now very conscious on the spec sheet than comfort. At least on the top spec model they expect it to have all the bell and whistles. I never can give a thumbs up for this car.
The review actually makes this shitty car look good.

Toyota failed to deliver it's new car on the given dates ..They reserve all the time .... 3 months have passed and there is no clue about the vehicle .... Which isn't a new launch.

Bro there is no difficulty in seeing meter. Although first time I saw this I was very exited as it looks very different from other cars. And when I drive it starting pickup of this car is next level and its handling is also very good. You can get excellent braking power even at 140 m/s
the hyundai grand i10 will beat this car by a (huge) margin. don't believe me? just wait for the official powerdrift review..
But can't in engine reliability. Toyota diesel engine is very long lasting compared to i10.
This car isn't really comfortable at all. I was a passenger in a chauffeur driven one. Body roll on somewhat long journeys made me sick.
the problem is with the styling toyota opts for. there must be a few boring people who fill out all the feed back forms the folks from toyota dish out and hence you end up with the bland, lifless liva. indians want more.

This is not a good car in any aspect and for the first time I don't agree to the reviewer. I see this as a missed opportunity by Toyota even with the revamped Liva.

When something is bad as a reviewer that to be stressed with same amount of importance as praising the good thing. Review does not seem balanced one to me.
No talk of NVH,poor plastics and various cost cutting measures Toyota has employed. Its a car built to a cost and am not surprised its a darling with Taxi market.
Indians fall for gimmickry, and Toyota is all about practicailty. They play long-term game.
Well what I get from this vedio is this car doesn't handle well its ai t loaded with features unlike the competition doesn't even have a tacho the diseal powered car gets the stepmotherly treatment n you still give it a picking saying its comfortable really with that much bodyroll common toyota please change the dash just sit inside the swift dont even switch on the engine n you will never buy a liva

You sounded like a toyota shill. Diesel version don't even have an ABS and there are no speakers on the back. But it has chiller inside the glovebox, so it is cleverly packaged?! What are you guys smoking. Liva is a bad car. Period. And toyota should be ashamed of themselves for bringing very average models to India when they have stuff like Yaris sitting on their backyards.
