- Filmed on Sunday, August 18 2024, I drive around the College Hill neighborhood of St. Louis to see what's going on.
The name College Hill was given to this area because it was the location of the Saint Louis University College Farm.
This area is tied to the development of the City Water Works system. The need for a new waterworks became apparent in 1863, when the City's existing facility had become incapable of furnishing a plentiful water supply.
The Bissell Point pumping station was completed in 1869 and two water towers which were connected to the plant are still standing today.
The Grand Avenue water tower (white) was built in 1871 and is considered to be the largest Corinthian column in existence, standing at 154 feet tall.
The Bissell Tower (red) was built in 1887 to augment the first tower.
Over the years, admirers of the towers have repelled multiple attempts to raze them, and both are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
In 2015, The Guardian declared College Hill the most dangerous neighborhood in St. Louis.

These videos need to be seen.
The city can still be saved in my opinion
As always, thank you very much for the historical blurb, it helps to give a context. Also, St Louis is one one of the Mississippi River towns that has some awesome homes.
You are correct, I would have loved to see St. Louis in 1920, must have been quite a sight
