    Nice! I did a black one with a Buck 119 and it covered all the shiny spots on the handle and the halfguard. Its two pieces. Made a matching sheath for it also. Its all removable and can be put on again. Now its ready to ride at my side while deer hunting with no shine what-so-ever. Darn black bears are sneaky where I used to hunt. They'll be 2 steps behind you and most of the time people dont notice.
    Mine wasn't anywhere near as nice looking as yours though. Great work and technique, planning and everything. As usual sir.
    Thank you for a very enjoyable video!

      @@jarodhall1910
      Leave it all blank. Its functional and pretty nice looking with no carving or stamping also. Watch videos about doing stamping and carving. Its not as easy as it looks unless you're an expert. A novince may take up to 3 or 4 hours just to do the stamping straight, also do not expect perfection. You or anybody else will never achieve perfection. Practice on some scrap leather with your stamps. There are some stamps that are harder to use than others. Use the easy ones or no stamps at all.
      But do watch some videos on casing leather and stamping. Its an aquired skill that is only gained with practice and dilligence to do everything accurately.
      Leather work is very hard work at first, then it becomes pretty easy as you gain experience. I'm not talking about large projects. Those are pretty tough all the time.
      Sharpen even new razors with a diamond stone if you have one avaliable. Harbor Freight sells stones at a very reasonable price. Sharpen even the brand new blades. I sharpen them anyway.
      Don't expect leatherwork to be easy, focus on the finished product. You may have a difficult time for 7 or 8 hours and if you maintain your leather project it will last all your life. It may not look as pretty as it was when it was new but it will probably remain functuonal for a very long time.

      Thanks for watching! I didn't really need to soap up for this piece. I typically only case with glycerin saddle soap when I'm doing a lot of tooling. The soap helps lubricate the leather fibers. Makes it more pliable. This in turn helps a swivel knife glide through it better and for stamps to make better impressions.

    • @RoadAgentLeather
      @RoadAgentLeather  Рік тому

      It's called "casing" the leather and it preps it for tooling. Soaking in water softens the leather fibers and makes them more pliable. The saddle soap isn't necessary, but it lubricates the leather fibers and aids in the process.

    It’s nice work, but it’s not really a “makeover”. I mean, you stripped the finish and wrapped the handle in a leather sleeve that doesn’t really suit the style of the knife. Maybe if you had just given the knife some new scales made of exotic wood or something with inlays, that would look like something more custom.
