Oshadhi Suktam | Challakere Brothers
Oshadhi Suktam (Or Oshadhaya Suktam) is a part of Krishna Yajur Veda Taittireeya Samhita - Kanda 4.2.6. It is a powerful set of mantras that is believed to enhance the strength of medicinal herbs and thereby gather strength to stay fit and healthy. Oshadhi in Sanskrit means medicinal herb or medicinal plant.
The Suktam starts with a praise of herbs and plants which are many in variety and have medicinal value with astounding healing abilities. A prayer is made through this Suktam to Oshadhis to free us from multiple illnesses and bless us with a long and healthy life. The Suktam refers to Oshadhis that grow on Ashwattha tree or Parna tree and capture all the vitalizing sunlight, to bestow us with good health and free us from any sicknesses.
The value of such medicinal plants is equated to wealth and blessed are those who accumulate such Oshadhis. The one who takes in such Oshadhis is said to acquire medicinal value which drives out any sickness or illness, just like a traitor is driven out from a kingdom. Energy derived out of such Oshadhis are said to be prevalent to perform good deeds and thereby make good use of health acquired.
The Suktam mentions to carefully dig or remove the Oshadhis from the ground without harming them and thereby deteriorating their medicinal value. It ensures absolute effects of good health from carefully dug Oshadhi to all Dwipadi (2 legged) and Chatushpadi (4 legged) beings on proper usage and make them free from suffering.
