I was almost disappointed at not seeing the tarp tent but pleasantly surprised by the star set up will definitely be trying this next time I'm out . Very good video thanks
Il y a tellement de possibilités et de variantes que l'on ne doit pas être loin de la centaine. Ce qui est génial, c'est qu'il y a toujours un petit truc qui améliore. Bravo pour cette sympathique démonstration !
Well done. I use a modification of the Forestor called the Beaked Forestor where the peak is moved closer to the front corner. It doesn't close all the like the classic version, but still offers ample protection. I only close off my tarps in horrible, blowing weather or when the skeeters are especially bad [if I don't have a bug net]. The square arch is new to me. And here I thought I knew them all.
I like the star config. I found your video on it about a year ago, I think. I was impressed with how much room it had, and how quick it was to put up. By the time I got around to trying it for myself, I lost the video. Now I'm back on track, thanks I'm glad you re-did it.
Great organization and explanations of the tarp variations. Love the links to your other videos as well. You’ve earned a new subscriber. Thank you for sharing this. Peace.
Just a quick thought you can put a peak it by utilizing the top row of tie outs with a 3 guideline or you can get a stick long enough to spend the Gap and Arch it over and it will hold it like a tent pole
Great video!!! I can’t tell you enough how pleased I am with the free solider tarp! I saw it first in one of your videos. Today I hung my first hammock and tarp, two weeks ago catfished in the rain... loving all the different ways to set it up. Thanks for demoing these configurations! 💯💯💯
I use the simple A-frame pitch most of the time, especially now that I have the Onetigris mesh tent you covered a bit ago. But the star has always been my favorite bad weather pitch.
The only additional comment I think you should emphasize is that these require a square tarp vice a rectangular tarp to achieve the configuration you suggest. Other than that small addition, nice video and very informative. Thanks for sharing.
Not neccessarily, for example the star can be done with a rectangular tarp, with the entrance door being where the longer side is...at least I reckon it should be doable. Going to try this with my British Army shelter sheet (basha).
I'm a new convert to tarps, and I'm thinking, why do people still haul around tents? I'm lazy when it comes to tents, but seriously, tarps are so versatile! Well, I'll see you in Daniel Boone National Forest next month 👍🇩🇰🇺🇸
Super instructions for building a shelter and clearly explained! What dimensions does your tarp have? Shelter number 1 has no mistake, I give thumb up !
that's a nice looking tarp..if you had two of them you could put two of the #4's together and have good room and total enclosed.. maybe porch one while cooking.. then reconfigure for overnight..
That was a great video. I found myself wondering why I bought a tent and may just set it aside in favor of the tarp and a mosquito net. I liked that it was a quick overview and that if I did need more information there was another video I could watch. Sometimes I don’t want to be burdened with a detailed explanation. The setups are pretty simple. But if I did, then having another video to go to is a solid compliment to this video. Trekking poles came up a couple of times. Do you actually use them for hiking or are they just substitute tent poles? I ask because I am wondering about the price/quality of poles I would need to add to my kit.
Thanks for watching and for the comment. But I like my tents too, I like all types of camping experiences. I love my trekking poles and use them a lot! Sometimes just carry one, and the ones I got were the cheapies at your local box store.
Bein' a lazy sort, I especially like that Star. I'd used lean-to types modded to location. My 4-footed bud, really' liked them when that screech owl scared him during the night. Kinda worried me a bit when he came scrambling in.
Thanks ZZ! Unfortunately I won't be attending the meet up after all. I lost my job a couple of weeks again and I won't be able to make it. You know how it goes, make plans and life will change them for you. But all is well and I hope to be there next year.
Sorry to hear that Kenny. Was lookin' forward to it but I do understand. Maybe we can have a meetup some time this summer anyway! Hang in' there Brother...be thinkin'bout' ya'! ZZ.
Man those are some UglyTents! :P Jk, nice setups. My go to is a 8x10 cheap poly tarp in a tarp tent config. A little different than your last one. How's the quality of those Free Soldier tarps?
keeping it simple kenny , i like them all ..ive came up with a strong ground anchor set up on my channel if you ever need a strong tie out point to the ground .. see ya at the meet . billy joe
Thanks buddy! I'll be sure to check it out.By the way I won't be at the meet, unfortunately some things have changed (lost my job) and I can't make it. I'll try again next year.
Looks like you need to start practicing your knots... might make it easier... liked the video, need to tighten the cords on most of the tarp/ tent configurations.
Tarps are pretty handy. Sometimes I'll strap one to the pack even if I'm setting up a tent. You can set up a nice commen area in the event of weather for hanging out.
While I like your imagination and knowledge, I have to wonder why the strong aversion to a tent? It offers better protection from weather, ticks, snakes, mosquitoes, etc, etc. I have difficulty understanding that. I carry a tarp for a rain fly addition to my tent, but not as the sole shelter. Help me to understand, please? Courtesy of Half Vast Flying
Tarps are great for many things but if in need of a functional and superior shelter why not simply bring the outer tent from e.g. a tunnel tent along with the lightweight "tent poles". It will assure a solid structure that is wind and weather proof. I personally do not use walking sticks, and don't really know any outdoor people who do, but I bet that the weight and the size of my outer tent with its poles is less than your tarp and your walking sticks. Okay, the tarp is still great for sleeping in a hammock, or if you for some reason want an open faced structure of sorts, but otherwise I would always recommend to simply bring your outer tent, if you have one of course, and rest like a king.
@@UglyTent I of course agree with you - just think that most people forget about the option of bringing an outer tent, which I believe offers superior shelter with no real downsides as it weighs and takes up roughly the same weight/space as the tarp option. Maybe you could do a video on that?
I used to never use hiking poles but I am super glad I had them on the last trip I took to the Hoosier National Forest. Most trails in the area I was in are hiking and horse trails. It had rained the day before and some spots were pretty muddy. With 35lbs on your back its nice to have more points of contact with the muddy ground. I should also note that I felt I could hike longer distances and at a quicker pace than without them especially through elevation changes since my arms were helping share the load. Also nice to have for moving aside long grass and scrub brush to check for snakes(timber rattlers) when venturing off the trail. And since they served a dual purpose of help when hiking and also used for my shelter the small amount of extra weight over light weight tent poles, to me, is well justified.
It's cool that I have the exact same tarp. Been using it for about two years. It's been is so many different configurations. Its easy to pack and its huge. Haha
Adding a third ridge line above the double on the square arch set-up, would probably work to shed rain. Love the last one, too. Thank you.
Bro, your video blew my mind. #1 is super legit
Great ideas. Thanks for sharing
Bravo. Excellent presentation! Just what I was looking for. Many thanks! 😎👍🏻💯
I was almost disappointed at not seeing the tarp tent but pleasantly surprised by the star set up will definitely be trying this next time I'm out . Very good video thanks
Star configuration is one of my favourites go to setups to👍
The star looks awesome
Yes, my favorite!

I'll be honest. My mind was blown with that last one ha.
Thank you!
Love those last two tarp setups bro! Subbed! Greetings from Scotland 👍 🔥 👍
Just stumbled across this video and it was enough to make me like and subscribe. Very useful info. 👍😊
Glad it was helpful!
Worth it to see the last tarp set up! That star configuration is genius - Outstanding!

Best I've seen yet.

Cool! Glad it helped, thanks for the comment and for watching!
Great video, taught me some new configurations and I absolutely love the water bottle rain catcher...
I love the star tent. It's even a simpler setup than a tarp tent.
Thay free soldier tarp is awesome! I love mine! Thanks for the new ideas to set it up.
I do like the star. It's quick and practical. All the setups were neat to watch and definitely a couple of new ones for me. Great vid!
Awesome! Glad you like it, and thanks for watching.
Love your number 1. Can't be any simpler than that.
I agree!

Thanks, liked your videos. Just like many others, I think I'll be using the star configuration. Nicely done
Thank you 🙏

Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the helpful ideas. All configuration is really great, i'm gonna try them. Have a great day!
Thank you for watching, glad they helped!
Excellent job, brother, as usual. Thanks.
Thank you my friend!
I use the simple A-frame pitch most of the time, especially now that I have the Onetigris mesh tent you covered a bit ago. But the star has always been my favorite bad weather pitch.
I can understand both the A-frame with the mesh tent and the star in bad weather. Thanks for the comment.
Great set ups. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you, and thanks for watching.
I really like that star setup
Me too
Awesome set ups. Thanks for sharing!
No problem, thanks for watching!
Thank you. #1 for sure.

Muy guapas las configuraciones ✌🤠👍

Absolutely love that tarp! I have owned mine for a year now, with zero issues. Please do a review, would like to know your thoughts on it
Doug Salsbury Yeah it looks awesome. What is it, as I’m looking to get myself a new tarp soon?
Depending on the time of year ..even with a bug net...I like the Forrester!
Thanks Amy!
I use a modification of the Forestor. It's a great setup and my personal go-to. Great head room
Nice Ken. Thanks.
Thanks Mark!
Thank for the ideas! What backpack were you using in this episode and do you like it?
Excellent setups brother !!

I like your tarp! The brown one w orange edges. What is it? Thanks
Unfortunately I think that one is sold out. But there are a lot of great other tarp options out there, check out the OneTigris tarp.
Good stuff, hoping to get out soon to try some stuff with my DD 4 meter tarp
Sweet! The DD's are supposed to be great tarps, haven't tried one yet.
Nice tarp what kind is it?
Thanks Kenny! See ya' next week! ZZ.

New subscriber here so you may have already answered the question. Where did you get your tarp?
It’s either a Free Soldier or OneTigris tarp. Check my Amazon page.
Fairly new follower here. Just wanted to say that i love your content. Very cool channel. ATB, My friend.
Thank you for watching and for the sub!
ATB, Kenny
just Subscribed looking forward to seeing your videos
Excellent! Mike B. MWW
Thank you!
R not afraid the sticks will poke holes in the nylon? I like it a lot but can you use anything other than pointy sticks?
Yes you can round the sticks off with your knife. I was just demonstrating, otherwise I would have done so.
Love the square arch tarp setup! Plan to use it on my next outing. Where can i find a mosquito net like the one you use?
Thank you! That's just a Coghlans but net, I've listed it on my Amazon influencers page. Check it out in the link.
What tarps are you using and what's there size. Great video, thanks
I had the same question.
It’s the Free Soldier 10x10. Unfortunately I think it’s out of stock. Check my Amazon page for it and others. Thanks for watching and for the comment!
Man those are some UglyTents! :P Jk, nice setups. My go to is a 8x10 cheap poly tarp in a tarp tent config. A little different than your last one. How's the quality of those Free Soldier tarps?
Lol. My Free Soldier is a first generation and has done great, but they say the latest ones are as good.
How come you didn't use the one Tigris tarp, do you still like it better than the free soldier tarp?
I switch back and forth. I like to mix it up a little.
keeping it simple kenny , i like them all ..ive came up with a strong ground anchor set up on my channel if you ever need a strong tie out point to the ground ..

That was the Free Soldier 9x12
Looks like you need to start practicing your knots... might make it easier... liked the video, need to tighten the cords on most of the tarp/ tent configurations.
I do better when I'm not thinking about showing it. Lol. Thanks for the comment!
Ok now I'm tarp shopping.
Kenny, what size Coughlans bug nut are you using under your tarps? The single or double? Maybe I missed it in a previous video, but I don't recall.
It's the rectangle, I think it's the only one like that they make.The single wide 78" x 32" x 59"
Thank you sir!
Kenny, thanks for sharing !
Thanks for tuning in!

I agree.
I have a 15 by 19 ft blue tarp what shelter you can make with that I'll bet
Probably a house
the real bigfoot lol
What size tarp are you using in that star?
I believe that is a 10x13, but any decent sized tarp will work.
@@UglyTent thank you for reply
Youre in different part of country woods more dense lots of fallen pines and 1m trunk diameter in oaks.
what was the size of tarp you used
Not ugly 😁
some pretty nice setups but number 3 was nothing like an Adirondack setup

Is that a sharpening stone around your neck? If it is, what is it called and where can I find one on the internet?
Yes, that is a WAZOO survival viking whetstone. You can find them on line under the same name! Tell them I sent you!
UglyTent Bushcraft & Survival thank you
What size tarp is that. I missed it.
Never mind. I see in the comments, 10x10.
Nice vid. Thanx Tex.
I think it may be sold out, but the OneTigris tarp is a another great option. Thanks for the comment and for watching!
Great video!! Bushcraft outfitters 10x10?
I think that's the 10x10 Free Soldier. I've been eyeing that tarp for a while now.
Outdoors With Shawn just got one a few months back. You can’t go wrong. Excellent tarp!!!🔥🔥🔥
Free Soldier it's on my Amazon page!
What size is your tarp??? What kind?please give description and name!!!
High, my number one is the closed triangle-setup ( DD 3X3 ). Kindly Fiete
The star is so simple!
Agreed, and awesome
All great shelters, but my favorite would be the Whelen setup!

Better have some kind of raised bed in case of a downpour. In all of these designs.
Actually I stayed in a few down pours in some of these and did fine. Obviously these aren’t as good as a tent, but they will surprise you.
