That wire mesh isn't stopping shit from entering the drivers compartment.
Get one and try it out so we know if it works or not
I feel as if that boom is the weakest link, Has to be a reason almost every other winch box built builds around the boom, And ya if that 1 inch line snaps that mesh ain't doing much
Seems like a horrible idea to be operating that thing nearly directly in the line of fire from the winch. It would make a lot more sense to have some snatch points on the bottom corners of the bucket so you could snatch block it down from the boom to the bottom of the bucker for hard pull. This way the bucket is the protection, which is actually substantial protection vs some wire mesh that isnt doing a damn thing when that cable comes at you...
id agree with that one @ashkanserat , not to say by any means im an expert or really know much about heavy machinery and cables but i feel like some thicker maybe 1/8 or 1/4 inch expanded sheet metal would be a bit safer in my ignorant opinion
They have the heavy door kit as well. 1" plexi plus the mesh, might not stop it but it'll sure slow it down
The Tuff Wedding ring looks cool but it holds 21 qt of oil. Its supposed to break for safety. Wouldn't it be better to "save your finger" if it broke away easier at 4 qts instead of holding on and not breaking???🤔
I was thinking the same thing! It's stronger than my finger joints. If it is that tough to break, I'll just keep wearing gold
Yeah, it seems like the one that holds up to normal daily wear and breaks easy is the point...
And so much thicker than most men's wedding bands, so possibly more likely to get caught than a normal one
Thank you for pointing out the obvious. You want it to break & save your finger , but no its 21 qts of lube strong . I don't understand. ? The shit is backwards , just like our country. !!!!!!!
I use a silicone ring as a mechanic every day and they last a long time already, and with how cheap they are I have several. I agreed that I don’t want one this strong as it kinda defeats the purpose of being a break away ring. Ive never said with my current silicone rings “I wish it was stronger” lol had one close call that fractured a tungsten ring and never again will I wear anything but a rubber ring but this one he’s advertising is defeating the purpose
You should talk to Yankum and see if they can get you a synthetic winch line for that beast. It would make it easier to pull out the winch line and reduce the weight on the front of the beast. If you didn't already know, they make synthetic winch line for wreckers. Casey Ladelle recently put them on his Zacklift wrecker and they make a huge difference when rigging recoveries. No more hooking up and backing up to unspool the heavy cable. Just a small modification to the sheep's head to round the edges so it doesn't cause wear on the line. Casey welded a U-bolt to his to make a rounded edge. Another advantage is it would make it much safer in the event of a line or anchor point break. Synthetic line doesn't spring back at you like steel cable does and wouldn't cause as much damage if it did. Worth considering.
I hate Casey LaDelle and Hans Peterson. Like soooo much!
for the Yankum ropes advantages it doesn't have the long lifespan and abrasion resistance of a 1" steel cable.
@@Oldtimered congratulations
That’s just stupid and defeats the purpose
😂 the shackle and cable won’t even notice that thin ass mesh on its way into the cab and into the face of the operator! Good luck with that
I'm going with "The Rhino Recovery Rig" Because its built tough and that boom for the winch line looks like I Rhino horn lol.
No offense but I want the ring that fails sooner. That's the whole point it fails before your finger does.... So you go home with your finger
The tough ring needs breakaway sections… add a lifetime “if it does its job and saves your finger” we replace it
I was yelling at the screen at that. At first I thought it was an april fools joke, but I don't know.
First thing I thought of after seeing this... If I'm gonna have something like this around my finger I want it to break If it gets caught in a drill or something. Otherwise I'd just wear a carbon Fiber ring. ** To be honest, the best way to save your fingers is to be like me... Don't get married lol.
I’m also not paying 45 bucks for a single silicone ring I bought a four pack from Amazon for like 15 bucks
Exactly what I was thinking. That ring is so strong it will de-glove your finger before the ring breaks. No thanks.
In regards to the "Tough Ring"...they are a great alternative to a metal ring however as a 30+ year mechanic I personally would prefer a lower breaking strength than 40+ pounds.
That would potentially dislocate my finger and/or break my finger prior to the ring breaking and allowing me to get free.
Agree. I thought that was one of the big reasons for getting away from metal.
I love it! I used to be a cannon crew member working with the M109 self propelled howitzer. Those howitzers use spades to grip the earth before shooting. I have mentioned to other off-road recovery UA-camrs that using a drop down spade could give them much needed staying power when pulling vehicles. I'm so happy to finally see someone using a spade to dig in and pull stuff. I can't wait to see how y'all's beautiful creation performs in the future.
The idea of that style ring is for it to break before you break. That tough ring is going to pull your hand into a lathe where the cheap silicone ones snap.
100% correct! The safe ring is unsafe, dont buy it, or best of all, dont sell it, it's unsafe! From Peter Eriksson Sweden Europe 😊😊😊
Pack of 4 silicone wedding bands Amazon is like 15 bucks, and design to break at 10lbs of force. Used them for years in law enforcement and never had one try and take my finger. That Tough Ring is just a industrial accident waiting to happen.
From being a ex line man. That mesh ain't stopping shit. I had cable break more than could imagine. Better double up and make your vision smaller. Video cameras, how I would look at a full pull.
Right, make the whole thing remote control
Murphys Diesel has been using one of those winch boxes for a couple years now. They are impressive 💪🏻💪🏻🇺🇸👍🏻
Robby Layton has borrowed one & used it a few times & they are impressive!
Wow, what a beast. Great job Dave. The video wouldn't have been complete without Deisel Dave. Thanks, Heavy D. NO PROBLEM.
When I turned 18 (20+yrs ago) my boss got me to get my Cdl driving his Tri axles. From the first time I got into the truck he would tell me over and over if I ever get stuck on a site to immediately drop the load. Right before I started driving he got our Rd Mack stuck and they wouldn’t let him dump. The dozer they used to pull him out ripped the front of the truck apart.
Glad to see a Mack on you channel. Great truck engine, trans, axles machined and assembled in America! It's a great job as well!
The Pulldozer is best name so far! (Not my suggestion) ❤
since its not a bulldozer then pulldozer would not fit, id say pullloader is better since its a skidloader or trackloader whatever
@@rewords_2788 better tell Dave his brodozer isn’t a bulldozer. Wonder if he knows.
Wow, very impressive recovery vehicle. My two cents for a name SMCO Recovery Dominator, when all else fails, call for the Dominator!! We dig in, to pull you out. Big or small, we do it ALL!!
Pulldozer is a cool name for the unit someone had mentioned. But the the category of product needs a name too like a “planter box” recovery unit. It plants itself firm and doesn’t move. 😎
I like that you did this recovery on the motors channel. It’s a good fit.
I hear if you call Yankum ropes directly, they can custom build heavy duty synthetic winch line to whatever spec you need- it would be a lot easier to pull than 1" cable, safer, and did I mention easier to pull?
7/8" yankum winch line is 52,000lb rated
What a good guy! His team is awesome too. They all seem like good people
The pull dozer 😂👍
Good brand image. ❤
Second this... clever
murphy s towing has one of them
This wins. There might be funnier or cooler names but this one just makes too much sense.
@@jamesa8851 be cool if they use it and get 5%-10% of the merc sales lmao 😂👍
I have got the ring and the wallet and love them both. I’ve had to ring probably about a year or so and I had to Wallet about six months and I love them both. Also a good recovery piece of equipment worked awesome
Wouldn't a tougher silicon ring defeat the purpose of off having a silicon ring instead gild or silver. The silicone ring is supposed to pull off or break when caught in a tool not tough it out and rip the skin off.
Dredge wedge?
Anchor yanker?
Un-stuck-er 9000?
Omg i want that attachment for when madmax times come. Idk or if ill ever hse it,but damn. Looks totally badass.
Nice paint job.
Murphy’s Towing in AZ has one, but it’s not painted
Love the work good job bros
That's a hell of a looking rig you built there, holy crap how many thousands of friends do you have, I got one and it's my dog
😂😂i'm fkn dying bruh
@@TRXYXD it sounds funny but it's true, I'm 58 years old and I have nobody I can look at as my actual friend
When you have money, "friends" come out of the woodwork.
@@harpintn or maybe that's why cuz I don't have any money or friends I'm on disability
"Friends" come and go, and in time most are really just acquaintances. The dog will always be loyal and will love you for you, without question.
Phoenix Vulture.
(salvages out of the ashes - life from beyond hope)
For full power pulling, or double-line full stress action - shorten the boom and redirect to a lower pull point - leverage relative to how deep the blade can be buried - that is key to pulling at ? 110k Lbf (2 "hydraulic stakes"/bearclaws for ultimate anchoring in loose /unstable soil/fill - nail down tpo bedrock.... lol.)
- yep the reverse freespool was the smartest way to get the line off the drum...
- and the winchbox has a backfill blade for fixing the road...
yep I saw what it did... Great what mechanics can do.
Oh man I just had an “Old Yeller” moment 😢 RIP Mavic 3…. Cool 😎 project and awesome videography! Hans the man
I'm glad they did a tribute to the drone lol. As a beginner, it hurt to see one destroyed lol.
Hey from Scotland, Happy Easter guys,
I definitely believe you when you said it’ll replace a lot wreckers after seeing how easily it came out and seeing that it was loaded too
I would call it "the Ripper" because the way it looks and it'll rip anything out of the mud
How about Ripp-off as Robby Layton's had one for a couple of years
@@robsidgor I don't know this is the first time I've ever seen something like this
@@TheOriginalAndysGarage Yup , they have been around for years , a lot of use in logging industry
They worked with robby laton before and its not like heavy is putting a patent on it...@@robsidgor
Love the way you invent the tools you need man. Great video!
how many drones is that now could they be a tax right of . WE LOVE YOU HANNS🥰
Good idea. I have considered doing something similar using a 3 point box blade with the winch set up on it so as to be changed like plows with the 3 point of the tractor. I may do it yet. The high position of your boom is good for adding a bit of lift to stuck equipment that might need some lift. I believe it could, however, cause the rear of your loader to be picked up if a pull is extra heavy. That could be helped with a little extra weight, or other help, to the rear of your loader. I like it, though.
The MINOTAUR ( it's a Greek mythical beast )
I agree with others that operator protection needs more frontal 'hardening'. 1/4" steel plate with viewing slits? Eventually you might find that a rear winch for self retrieval will be useful.
Call it OVERBITE!!👍🏼
Buck for Buck toothed😂
The Beast
That’s a great name for it.
you need to get yankum synthetic lines for the winch lines drop that overweight steel lines.
Looks like a nice well thought out winch. I particularly like the chains going to the loader arms. Small detail that makes an huge difference as it takes the load of the curl cylinders and therefore the hoses but also takes a lot of the load out of that terrible SSQA.
MY SON IS A-FIREMAN AND HE WEARS A RING LIKE THAT. HE HAS HAD A FEW BREAK AWAY SO HE DIDNT LOSS HIS FINGER. THANKS DAVE FOR LETTING PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT THOSE RINGS!!!
Your caps lock is on
The purpose of those rings is to break away. I would much rather have the one that breaks with 4 quarts of oil. Rubber rings are much cheaper than fingers.
Awesome piece of machinery that should be good to have in your arsenal
THE PULL DOG.
I have been wearing these for years. They are awesome and hold up to anything.
I would upgrade that 'mesh' with 1/2" by 6" steel bars on edge, spaced with 2" gaps, just enough to see through. something really capable of stopping a 200 MPH cable and its 400 pound thing it just yanked out of the stuck thing. A 3/4 Lexan panel behind it as a second layer of protection would help too.
brilliantly done. The sad crushed drone violin music was perfect comic relief
I always enjoy the camera work and the way you guys work together to make it all happen!! Please keep grinding out these amazing videos
Yes, even when the camera work busts Dave Sparks confessing to running over the drone while his gas cap is likely missing.. ua-cam.com/video/hcLTYExsLIw/v-deo.html
That’s y diesel Dave and big D is the best thanks to everyone.
lots of content ideas come from Robby Layton. Next Sparks will build an AMC Pacer 8x8. ;) While in Rockport eat at Los Comales. Dont eat the seafood however. lve had family there since the 1950s. My cousin is a somewhat famous sign painter there and painted 1000s of hand lettered signs all over the area. Love the channel.
Awesome bit of kit I’d b wary of not using the synthetic line as a pose to steel and the quick attachment on those skidsteers never seems strong enough to me glad u put the safety chain on as I’d put money on it snapping the locking pins with a lot of weight pulling but she dose look 👌
Hey y'all, from Botucatu, SP, Brazil!
Happy Easter to all.
How about naming it, Grappler?
That Skid steer puller is genius very cool
Call it the..
"Anchor Yanker".
Or, the "plant n pull"
Cool machine but to say it would replace wreckers is a stretch I don’t know many companies would would want to take a truck and trailer to a recovery then have to unload this and then hope there’s a place to wedge the blade into the ground if your at a completely off road recovery then sure but for the most part a wrecker boom for heavy recovery and extend out to reach
Wait a second... your Tuf Ring ad is BACKWARDS!!! For a ring you're wearing to protect your finger, you shouldn't be bragging about it holding an entire 5 gallon bucket of oil! The "generic" ring that broke at 4 quarts is actually BETTER for a ring that's protecting your finger around equipment and tools. Love you guys but not sure what you were thinking here??? LOL
Call that " box max " 🔥
Wrecked and Recovered would have loved that for pulling stuff out , but things dont go to plan when you cant answer every message you get. Cool vehicle.
Cuddos to you! Stepping it up a notch.
I remember seeing this being fabricated and designed some time ago. Looks like it did a great job and a nice unit for a skid steer.
THE PULLY BULLY!
The badger is taken Canadian military Leo C2 with dozer and picker piece of kit. IDE call it the Iron Way. Technically winching towards the heavy iron.. IronWay sounds good too, no other way other then the use of heavy iron to pull off stuff like that.
Dang. That *was* a sick drone. Funny enough mine Mini 3 pro is also out of commission, but it's repairable.Currently waiting for both back arms with motors to swap these bishes up and it'll be good to go.
When they were building the blade it looked like a scene out of Mad Max. Love it!
You got the Sal Fish send off pic from the Mil- That is special moment from a special man!
Really nice piece of equipment.
Interesting , Thank You. I'm not sure how useful it will be , but the concept is interesting. I hope it works Good luck
Great project. The tow looked too easy. A BEAST.
Relentless recovery blade
Hi Dave, I had faith in you. I knew that you can get it out. No other man in the world does the stuff that you do and your team I am doing better. I’m still going through chemo. I’ll talk to you later.
That’s the ultimate recovery machine!!!
I’m buying one ASAP!!!
"Pocket Rock- It" ("Pocket" - for its size & agility. "Rock-It" because this unit ROCKS. Also, "Rock-It" sounds like a Rocket for how fast & speedy the recovery can be.
That's funny for a whole different reason.
Angels at PLAY!... falling drone down home. That's like stepping on the parakeet! Bad puppy! Good job 2all 🥶 🐲

What better name For THE MOST powerful WenchBox then 🥁 🥁 🥁 🥁 🥁
"BRUTE FORCE"
I'm sure the d4 on the spot would have done the job perfectly, but it's much more stylish with the beautiful beast that is the MINAUTOR...👌🏻👍🏻
Game changer for the tight to get in jobs well done
When I was 6 years old, my adopted father used to take me to work with him all the time, working in the shop on trucks etc... made me laugh seeing the kid jump in... I would like to suggest one thing, a roller top and bottom of the cable where it passes over the blade, for safety, if the cable ever snaps, the rollers will help stop whip lash and possibly a face full of cable. Yep I know, you put the screen but you know old man Murphy, I know him well and with over 40 years heavy equipment exp., I've pulled a truck or two out in my day.
Blades at the back of the frame that go into the ground like a tree spade, where the frame angles from blade to mount, it would form a V and if you can get 3 feet of penetration, yes I know IF... for soft soil conditions mostly, or make the teeth in the front much longer, extension caps maybe so you have the option of short and long.
Here's an interesting trick an old guy taught me, when using a dump truck to pull out a stuck one ( provided it's loaded of course, the pulling truck ) pull from the front, as the load is behind you, gives you more pulling power, you just have to make sure the line does not snap or you are gonna need a rad at least :)
I think "mighty winch beetle" would be a great name having seen it in action! Great build guys 👍😃
That thing is slick guys!
Can we have a moment of silence in remembrance of the drone...... 😥😥😥Thank you
Pretty smart design - the harder it pulls the harder it anchors itself. Wonder what it would have to pull before it gets light in the rear end?
But yeah, as others have said that mesh isn't going to help if the sort of load that would break that stuff decided to let go. I've seen shackles on the ends of broken yank straps fly with enough force to go through that screen.
Have you guys looked at Yankum synthetic winch cable. Oh and that chicken wire window guard will not Evan stop a soft shackle. That toothy pully thing work excellent
Awesome winch box. You all have some excellent fun designs
Great show guy's, as for a name Thoth seems to fit. Awesome machine no matter the name!
BABE! After Paul Bunyan's Giant Ox that could pull anything!!
Heck of a piece of equipment. Nice Video.
That's 🔥 fire! It's overkill for a lot of jobs, but very cool... 💡 Ideas/suggestions, maybe a slightly smaller version 25-30k winch that could attach to the back of tow trucks or even 1 ton pickups? 👍
The Winch-enator of course!
Awesome build on that recovery box not just any track loader can carrier it? What size track loader do you got to have? Awesome machine. Need a matching flatbedroll back truck for it.
The Physics going on here is awesome!!!
The Minotaur. That's what I would name it.
< THE MINOTAUR >. Fabulous half bull monster of Crete in Greek Mythology

The Beast Of Bodmin.
I think with the winch boom it looks like a "Scorpion".
It sucks having to watch these give aways when you are all the way in South Africa. I have been watching you guys since you were on TV with Red beard. Would have loved to enter for the tools as they are super expensive down here. Love your show. Cheers
