Hi there, appreciate the video, keep doing~few things to clarify 1.12:24 fake singing, it's refer to the band Mayday for sure , but they are from Taiwan not China. Most of normal Taiwanese will take it offended been called chinese, we are proud to be Taiwanese. Btw, that scandal happened because ccp demand them to do propaganda for ccp in order to influence the young people in Taiwan before 2024 presidential election, but they refused, therefore ccp tried to oppress Mayday by spreading rumors of Mayday fake singing to humiliate them and to make them lose fans in China. 2. 13:12, it refers to a Taiwanese talent Raine Yang who claimed that Taiwanese are so poor to afford seafood, clearly she is in tune with ccp propaganda. 3. 13:18, it also refers to a Taiwanese talent Jam Hsiao who is the descendent of Taiwan aboriginals, he claimed we Taiwanese are brought up by drinking water from Yellow River( known as mother river in China), what's funny is that the aboriginals of Taiwan don't even share the common ancestors with China. And the rest of Taiwanese, we may have ancestors came from China but that's it, we won't think ourselves as Chinese. Will people of the U.S. think themselves as British?
"And the rest of Taiwanese, we may have ancestors came from China but that's it, we won't think ourselves as Chinese." In my experience, 90% Taiwanese people will be proud of their 5000 years of Chinese heritage and culture. Zhong hua min guo song... BUT that truly depends on the context of conversation. Boils down to, we are Chinese but not communist. And just to add I am talking about young , mid and old age people, and none of them are KMT voters. EDIT, if Taiwanese are not Chinese why do you claim mainland-west Taiwan and Tibet in your constitution?
Good point! My answer is because our constitution is outdated. It was found when ROC aka Taiwan was still the government of mainland China, and then KMT was defeated by CCP and retreated to Taiwan. The leader of KMT of the time, Chiang Kai-shek, thought he would fight back and take back mainland China, so he wouldn't revise the constitution. As time goes by, taking back mainland China seemed impossible, then why the constitution still remain the same? Obviously, CCP threatens to wage a war between the strait when we try to announce independence, and to revise the constitution of Taiwan equals independence to CCP. We are a small country and they are giant. On the other hand, U.S. would not hope we try to change the status quo between the strait because that's better for every bodies benefit, and we are ally of the States and of the free world, so we should take allies' benefit in consider. Finally I want to quote this "90% Taiwanese people will be proud of their 5000 years of Chinese heritage and culture", well, ten more years ago, maybe so, because after KMT came to Taiwan they tried to brainwashed all Taiwanese we are all Chinese and our text book is all about China history and geography, even more our local Taiwanese language is prohibited to speak in public for a while. However, as you may know the behaviors of Chinese wolf warrior or little pink all over the world, I'd rather say that nowadays 90% Taiwanese people don't want to be mistaken as Chinese from China, it's really embarrassing.
14:18 In Malaysia, we have a group of people who their nationality is Malaysia (truely born and grow up in Malaysia) but they pro-ccp/China just because their ancender from China (the truly the people of the dragon haha), and of course due to the influence of the propaganda on social media such as Tik Tok, We chat and TV Shows. In Malaysia, we call them "中华胶”(literal translation: Chinese glue) and we give them a cute nickname "胶胶”(little glue?😂), Namewee writes it in the lyric. In the English translation, the "Jingoistic" refer to the "little glue". To make it easy to understand, just consider them as Malaysian little pink. I as a Malaysian, I really proud with Namewee. He truly a legend and so creative! 🇲🇾
And a little correction. In 3:18 here 666 doesn't refer to lucky number. It's come from that 6 is sound like 「溜」, which means someone is good at something. When it comes to 666 in Simplified Chinese internet culture, it's means compliment someone is awesome. For example, if your favourite FPS game streamer head-shot another player in the game, you could type 666 in the chat to express that you feel he / she do a really good play.

You missed out that when then lyrics comes to “long long root”, the action that Namewee is doing means “po lampa” in hokkien, means supporting his balls (supporting blindly)…
Thanks for analyzing all the references! That was really interesting! I've already watched this music video, many times! It's brilliantly entertaining, and the tune is catchy!
Awesome vid! Helped me study up on my Chinese language meme inventory haha. I noticed there was one possible meme that everyone seemed to miss though: the line 快來挖呀挖呀挖 seems to be a direct reference to that ex-kindergarten teacher Ms. Huang 黃老師 who quit her job to become a full-time livestreamer. She uses a heavily edited beauty filter and sings these annoying kindergarten songs that go 挖呀挖呀挖 over and over. She blew up online some time last year with thousands of simps (both domestic and foreign) flocking to give her "donations", and of course there were a ton of memes mocking her going around the Chinese speaking internet as well haha
Wow not a single reference in this song escaped your keen eye! There're so many memes and jokes that I overlooked the first couple times. Thanks to your video, I get to know the fun details. 👍👍👍👍
Thankyou DZ for your reference list, these digs are very smart satires. 9:14 and 15:43 the reference to "In this life and the next, Im proud of my nation", I believe this phrase was also quoted by Xi's daughter who lives in the lap of luxury. 13:51 the celebrities who had been publicly cancelled by the CCP like FanBingBing, WuYiFan, the list goes on.
David, the nuclear wastwater thing is interesting. In the 1980 or so, Germany paid China millions of dollars to dispose of their nuclear waste. What did China do with it????? What has China done with all the nuclear waste from their nuclear plants in the past years?? Has it been dumped in the ocean? Where is it???? Can you do a video on this topic?
I regularly watch Namewee's Music Videos! Tokyo Bon is the earworm, playing most often in my head! But I really enjoy 10 Men, Fragile and People of the Dragon! And your analysis, David, lets me understand the many, subtle references Namewee packed in this brilliant Music Video, like so many Easter Egg! Thanks! 💙💚💛🧡❤️💜
Thank you for this. I was actually looking for a breakdown and explanation of the song yesterday(couldn't find one in English) not being Chinese I knew there was a lot I was not getting. This was awesome, thank you!
Truly, with all due respect to the courage shown by so many in HK, the best opportunity for HK independence was when the British Navy was still in port. That was the time to protest against the CCP and then the Brits could have backed it up and pushed for independence. In failing to do so, the HK people of the 90s let their children and grandchildren down. But as covid showed, very few people stand up for things when there is the chance of real consequences. No offence intended, I respect what you are saying (free HK) and the real courage (not just my internet courage) that it must take to stand up for these causes.
Namewe's (黃明志) latest work just keeps getting better. Long de Chuan Ren 龍的傳人 'The People of the Dragon', is a masterpiece of orchestration and a tour de force in the art of dissent against tyranny. (*UA-cam, do something about the false flags from your fake YT accounts).
Thanks for the detailed explanation, it gives greater depth to the song. People of the Dragon is complex and perplexing. I'm laughing hysterically, yet feel the anguish that inspired the song in the first place. Btw, in this vid, David, your eyes were twinkling. lol
Thanks David well done in interpreting the song. I cant beleive that tour video has nt been demonitized yet by youtube. Long live freedom and democracy. Those who disagree raise their hands.
Apparently, I was mind blown with the song and the lyrics are so meaningful + entertaining. I have watched it many times, after watching your comment, that makes me even more mind blown as I didn’t notice such a details hinder message from the MV. I must said namewee, the team and the MV shooting are so smart, creative and brilliant. As a Malaysian, I’m proud with namewee and his team are being so authentic and daring with creative mind 🤩
Winnie the Pooh was banned because Xi was walking next to Obama, and someone compared it to a picture of Pooh walking next to Tigger. Some people found resemblance in their respective height and girth.
I thought that meant amazing or awesome and you are great in China?? Though it meant differently in the West, the number of the beast = EVIL. 777 is the lucky number in the West?
Nice video out there!! Also, at 14:45 , you can hear the they said "Look closely, look at these two men (this man, this women), such a badass", these are the common starting line you heard when clicked (almost) every tv show/drama/movies reviews that comes from china (mostly pirated, sometimes you can found it on FB or even youtube). And mostly the main character they will call them "小帥".
Yeah, so proud to be dissed and mocked for being Chinese. It's got nothing to do with CPC. Winnie represents yellow skin and beady eyes. If you are Chinese, you should be upset.
The official “Making of The People of the Dragon” has released. It also indicated “Baidu Manual” (百度真經), “Little Pink Book” (小粉紅書), “Truthfulness, Benevolence and Forbearance are no good” (真善忍不好), “Fragile Heart Manual” (玻璃心經), etc.
Good to hear from you again, David. This is an amazing song for sure, and we all love it. You’ve done a great job as in helping English speakers understand deeper towards potential meanings of the song. Btw, I texted and suggested Brendan to have a talk with you, as I’m really worried about what may come to him in the near future. You may give him more effective actions to tackle what pink commies may do to him, and this is not what we are able to do. Pls help him at your convenience, thanks heaps!
If I'm not mistaken Namewee is the same guy who sang Japanglish. He's now making a song for CCP I gotta watch it. Japanglish got stuck in my head for 2 days after listening to it 8 times.
I watched the video, and then this reaction. Thank you. I now feel better about my Asian ancestors, knowing that people over there are fighting back too. It reminds me a lot of Canada, which is where my grandfather came in 1923...
I watched the video a few days ago, but now it makes more sense since I know some of the meanings behind it. Namewhee is a pretty cool dude. Love the references to his "third leg".
Buying milk powder in HK is because of the 2008 Chinese milk scandal. Quoted WIKI -- "It was a significant food safety incident in China. The scandal involved Sanlu Group's milk and infant formula along with other food materials and components being adulterated with the chemical melamine, which resulted in kidney stones and other kidney damage in infants." Since then a lot of people from Shenzhen traveled to Hong Kong to buy formula milk every day until the government had to issue a purchase restriction order since mothers in HK could not buy any for their babies. The same happened to Japan and Australia. Basically, it's just teasing that the food quality in China is not safe. All this fake meat, Waste oil for cooking, etc.
Oh also most of these reference explained videos missed the lobster reference from a few years ago when they were mad at Australia and banned their lobster, coal and many other goods imports. They ended up shooting themselves in the feet with not enough coal for power plants and created a big lobster smuggling operation near the east side of the HK sea and people described that was like a huge floating seafood market 😂 every words and things in this video have references back to a real world incident what a masterpiece
Reminded myself at that time the ccp electricity plant didn’t even have enough coal to produce electricity for their cities they had to limit the electricity usage of each house/city. They did not have enough electricity for most the time 😂😂
Also China looks down at Hong Kong but then when their baby formula was tainted they had to go to Hong Kong to smuggle it back because they couldn't trust the formula that were made in China. 😂😂😂
Namewee is a genius of the dragon people. The song begins with the playing of Chinese folk instruments and the vocals are accompanied by background music of some Chinese movie song. The lyrics and images are metaphors that cover everything happening inside and outside China. A unique production that combines entertainment and current affairs which could be Included in history textbook.
The milk powder might’ve been a reference to the scandal with the baby milk powder which caused disabilities in children not too long ago. Just a thought.
Newtonian physics is great but I cannot say the same for Newtonian public relations.. the mess he has created and the anti-%@$ sentiments are so uncalled for.
Please note the 'bloody' red stairs to the throne for the Emperor The part about seafood is to mock two Taiwanese singers: Rainie Yang who said her family was too poor to afford seafood and said the Henan people love lying in a concert in 2023 Jam Hsiao, as a native in Taiwan, saying he was nurtured by the water of Yellow River Both are the artistes which may not be so popular before and have to kneel down before RMB to perform in China
14:20 - it's a reference to that CRAZY popular viral song by a teacher that taught her students about how to grow a garden and the importance of digging. The song is hella catchy though and technically has a good message.

His rap is quite good. been a fan since Negarakuku. It's is okay to diss a government if they are not doing enough for their citizens.
Thank you for explaining everything 👍🏼
Outstanding. I would never have understood all of that without your interpretation.
Wow not a single reference in this song escaped your keen eye! There're so many memes and jokes that I overlooked the first couple times. Thanks to your video, I get to know the fun details. 👍👍👍👍
Amazingly valuable cultural insight, that i'd have completely missed with out this breakdown. Thank you
I'm also learning a few more characters.
Name made references to his long slong which has two steels balls attached.
Damn...I didn't realise that the song has so many deep meanings. Thanks David for covering this song
I know using AI voice may be controversial and potentially have ethical issues, but I approve of its use by Namewee here.
Awesome explanation of all the details and meaning behind the song and smart visuals. Thanks!
Thanks! 💙💚💛🧡❤️💜
Thanks David, now I have that song stuck in my head!
Been there all day...
Thank you for this. I was actually looking for a breakdown and explanation of the song yesterday(couldn't find one in English) not being Chinese I knew there was a lot I was not getting. This was awesome, thank you!
Thank you for explaining the meanings
Free Hong Kong
I love that song, and i love it even more after your explanation! Thank you.
農曆新年快樂, Mr Zhang, thank you for sharing. Love from malaysia.
Wow...this song is so contextual. Thanks for breaking it down.
Thanks for the explainer... what a banger song!
Thank you for your sharing.
Love the breakdown and love Namewee’s new song, thanks David!!!
Some people found resemblance in their respective height and girth.
the number 666 is called lucky number for other people but it is related on greediness and corruption..
I thought that meant amazing or awesome and you are great in China?? Though it meant differently in the West, the number of the beast = EVIL. 777 is the lucky number in the West?
It's a very good actually. I enjoy listening to it so much, even watching for like the fifth time already. And I never listen to Chinese songs.
This is soooo good. Thank you!
Thanks, i knew some, but many just flew right over my head when i first watched it.
EXCELLENT EXPLANATION ON NAMAWEE SONG MEANING THANK YOU.NAMAWEE THANK YOU SHOWING REAL CHINA PEOPLE SUFFERING UNDER CCP TO THE WHOLE WORLD.
Brilliant explanation.
A collab would be so cool !
翻譯的太好了
Thanks for this! 👍
I'm Malaysian and I'm super proud of Namewee 👍🏻👍🏻 HK and Taiwan loves him too
Yeah, so proud to be dissed and mocked for being Chinese.
00:16 haha the "but dont touch me!" at the end. Hilarious 😂
Do another one for the other song (glass heart)
Another successful anti ccp china song. Nice.
If I'm not mistaken Namewee is the same guy who sang Japanglish. He's now making a song for CCP I gotta watch it. Japanglish got stuck in my head for 2 days after listening to it 8 times.
He is!
Thnx for da research and explanation. Namewee is da man
The outro gets me every time😂
Meyoo
I watched the video, and then this reaction. Thank you. I now feel better about my Asian ancestors, knowing that people over there are fighting back too. It reminds me a lot of Canada, which is where my grandfather came in 1923...
I watched the video a few days ago, but now it makes more sense since I know some of the meanings behind it. Namewhee is a pretty cool dude. Love the references to his "third leg".
Buying milk powder in HK is because of the 2008 Chinese milk scandal. Quoted WIKI -- "It was a significant food safety incident in China. The scandal involved Sanlu Group's milk and infant formula along with other food materials and components being adulterated with the chemical melamine, which resulted in kidney stones and other kidney damage in infants."
Since then a lot of people from Shenzhen traveled to Hong Kong to buy formula milk every day until the government had to issue a purchase restriction order since mothers in HK could not buy any for their babies.
That dragon with green screen is a Hong Kong movie intro *lmfaoo*
No, that's actually the intro of Chinese Censor Board(or something like that) cuz that screen appears before any Chinese movie.
@@rishisaini5269
What?
@@watersluggers7413 Watch any Chinese movie. You will get my point.
@@rishisaini5269
how is it censor tho?
This song is awesome. I heard and saw it playing in a convenience store in Indonesia the other day 🎉😊.
The milk powder might’ve been a reference to the scandal with the baby milk powder which caused disabilities in children not too long ago. Just a thought.
This is mind blowing
Newtonian physics is great but I cannot say the same for Newtonian public relations.. the mess he has created and the anti-%@$ sentiments are so uncalled for.
The controversy Namewee strikes again.
8:40 means we love spreading everywhere (covid-19)
That would be a great combination.
New favorite rapper.
the credits show that (part of?) the MV is filmed in a place called Great Wall... in Taiwan.
This song is the best, I kinda gave up on studying Mandarin but maybe I'll start again because people like this should be heard
Please note the 'bloody' red stairs to the throne for the Emperor
The part about seafood is to mock two Taiwanese singers:
Rainie Yang who said her family was too poor to afford seafood and said the Henan people love lying in a concert in 2023
Jam Hsiao, as a native in Taiwan, saying he was nurtured by the water of Yellow River
Both are the artistes which may not be so popular before and have to kneel down before RMB to perform in China
感謝您用心解說!相信令更多西方人,明白這首歌!你做得很好!謝謝
Satire is a very efficient way of fighting Dictatorship. Worked in Eastern Europe too.
14:20 - it's a reference to that CRAZY popular viral song by a teacher that taught her students about how to grow a garden and the importance of digging.
The song is hella catchy though and technically has a good message.
I'm a banana so this video actually helped me appreciate Namewee's work more
Love this! Namewee is a genius.
Great, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for explanation for us.
The most ironic thing is that the host remained a serious tone when analyzing all the funny references for almost twenty minutes.
Don't say "Chinese New Year" but "Lunar New Year"
But this song is aim for Chinese..not Asian.
