Fishing Cold Knapp beach - Barry - South Wales

- Well back in April I managed to make my way down to the south Welsh coast in search of those early rays. It was still early in the season, so it was always going to be a long shot.
Well seeing as I haven't been able to get back out since Jacks operation, I thought I'd share with you how it went.

Hi mate, always learning at the moment. Only being fishing for about 4 months now. Bloody love mate. In the four months, one bass, doggies loads of em. Crabs. Seaweed which is a pain... But keep going back lol. Thanks for sharing buddy tc Andy
If you've only been fishing for 4 months, you've fished through the worst time of year, the transition between winter and summer species. Rays, bass and hounds are all starting to show in numbers now, plus the weather's getting better, so keep it up.

Blast from the past, did my RAF driving test at nearby St Athan many many moons ago, remember going to that beach looked good but did not have my rods and it was January and the weather was appalling the whole month I was there and that is comming from someone from the Highlands ! 😂. Great vid, keep it up mate 👍
Yeah in bad weather, I can imagine that beach has claimed its share of ankles!!

We fished at Huttoft Lincolnshire yesterday 3 flattys but a right laugh .

@@theawfulangler that’s the way to go ,,our waters shallow here so you have to cast ,,my dad had me out in the fields with a conoflex rod and a then Diawa 6hm from as early as I can remember, I then changed to reel down the bottom,,it was like starting again lol

Sib idea doesn't seem Very practical. Rather it seems very boring. Sitting on the beach is great. You can fish quickly comfortably and enjoy the view at the same time. I have Fished last winter at North east many many times. Most of the guys who weren fishing there were using pretty expensive rods any reels however they normally caught what I caught. I don't personally think pendulum cast means a guaranteed fish or bite. Rather most of the guys that I met fishing at North east weren't casting far ether. Therefore I only used sort of cheapish rods and reels. I have 2 sonik wader rods 14th and they are great for the money. My next rod would be sonik sport black 14th and you can pick one for about 120 pounds brand new. To be honest I won't pay more than that. Great video as usual alex and keep uploading the lovely video. Good luck for the next session.

I agree. You will see on some of my videos that I have a little lure rod in short. It's just good to have the weapons in your arsenal. Better to have and not need than not have. Just my thought anyway.
There's a big difference between boat and shore fishing. Both have their positive sides. I'd love a boat, but sibs just seem more flexible, in that I can have it in my van and use it or not when off beach fishing.
Anyway, I think I'm a way off that yet 😒
@The Awful Angler things will fall into place when you ready for them . Keep the videos rolling. Yes I did see you catching a good size bass at Cowden with a tiny rod as well the session at skegness where you used a smaller rod. 😀
Good to see you were in my home town. The knap has been fishing its nuts off lately, so many rays coming out and someone had a blue skate off there last week. You came down a bit early if it was the beginning of April. Great video as always though mate
Thanks, Scott. Yeah, it was a bit early, but I was hopeful. The East Coast is just starting to pick up now. So I figured I'd heard south and see what happens. I might be back down again soon though, so good to hear its picking up 👍🏼

we only fish the knapp on a big tide on low water for the rays others dont but we do blondes up to 15 and small eye 10 pounds try and fish the white buoy mark

I could, but that's just avoiding the issue that I need to get better at casting 😅
What a nice fishing spot however I think being honest you need to hide your hooks a bit more especially in clear water. Not trying to teach my granny to suck eggs
It's a good point, mate, pun intended. I'm going to try a different way of baiting up next time I'm out and see if I can't get it a bit more uniform.
The Bristol Channel is like chocolate, they won’t see the hooks anyway lol. Bait presentation is perfect in my opinion
