I really appreciate that your first reaction to Rammstein was something else than Du hast live in Paris. Rammstein is absolutely my favorite band in the world, and i love the darkness in this song . I was really lucky to see them live in tour 2023. 🖤
Thanks for watching and commenting. Rammstein is a unique and amazing band and I hope to see them live one day. There is a lot of darkness and beauty in their songs.
My first exposure was Rammstein's Du Hast video and the second was their Ich Will video! Only listened to those two until I branched out and found their song Rammstein (which is still my favorite song since I first heard it). I love their music a lot, they've got me through some tough times
Stein um Stein is my absolute favorite Rammstein song. Till's performance at the concert in Nimes/France was masterful. I see the song lyrics as a metaphor for the band's life behind the Iron Curtain/Wall where they grew up. Till and other artists were controlled in the GDR not to write anything subversive against the state and therefore were forced to rewrite a lot of things metaphorically. At this point 6:18 Till has hidden the band name Rammstein in the song lyrics. "Alle Nägel stehen stramm, wenn ich sie in dein Leibholz RAMM_ _STEIN um Stein" "All nails stand at attention, when I RAMM_ them into your body wood. _STEIN by stone"
Thank you for taking the time to share @tosa2522 I did not about the hidden band name in the song lyrics Nor did I think about them growing up in GDR (German "Democratic" Republic - East Germany) , but that makes total sense. Are they all from GDR? And yes, Stein Um Stein is also one of my favourite Rammstein songs (Thomas here) So simple and yet so powerful
@@TimelessLegendaries Yes, they all come from the GDR, like me. Till even has a house not half an hour away from me by car. For me, it is particularly noteworthy that there has not been a change of line-up since their foundation. When the band was founded, they said that if one band member leaves, it's the end of Rammstein. 2001 was the band's biggest crisis, and it almost led to their breakup. The members then went to partner counseling, which they still go to from time to time to address their problems. Richard, the lead guitarist, once said that it is like a marriage in which there is no sex. PS: Another great song is Feuer und Wasser (Fire and Water) which is about a fan who is obsessed with his star.
@@tosa2522 Impressive with the same lineup and the need for partner counseling. I grew up in Denmark in the 70's right across the water from GDR. Denmark was sitting on top of the Iron Curtain and I remember crying of happiness and relief when the wall came down in November 1989.
I agree that the song is actually about the iron curtain and Berlin Wall. If you notice that the venue is set in a stone walled arena. This combo I believe explains why it seems that Till has a slight emotional moment at the end and Richard notices and covers for him with a riff until he recovers.
The analogy to Tarantino is very apt. Till often puts himself in the shoes of the perpetrator and plays the role very believably. Love this song, love the screaming guitar.
Thomas, big props for picking this song and particular live! Very pleasantly surprised to have this rather than the usual Du Hast or whatever. I think this song touches on how the band felt growing up in Berlin behind the wall, feeling trapped and further and further away from outside influence
Thanks @tigerlily8447 I think it is a beautiful and amazing song. That is an interesting take on living behind the wall, I never thought about that. Have Rammstein ever said anything publicly on the their thoughts behind the lyrics?
@@TimelessLegendaries Nope, whenever they publish a song, they keep the lyrics meaning intentionally vague, aside from enclosing certain details, for example that Wiener Blut was inspired by the Josef Fritzl case, or that Mein Teil is based on Armin Meiwes, or Rosenrot and Dalai Lama being inspired by texts from Johann Wolfgang Goethe. But the meaning of the songs stays hidden.
Always love it, when someone from another country, but also knows german, reacts to Rammstein. Not sure why, might be the range to talk about the music in combination with what the lyrics are about. From another/outside perspective. It puts an interesting spin on it. Or maybe I'm just delighted, knowing that german is not an easy language to learn. And you sound fantastic. With love from Germany ❤
Thanks 🙏 @evawoman43 Thomas here. Yes, it is always fun when English speaking fans of Rammstein down know what the lyrics mean. I chose Stein Um Stein so non-German speaking people could understand the beauty and the darkness of the words and the Rammstein universe.
Rammstein's songs are full of symbolism. What seems obvious is rarely the real message. Rammstein has a background in the GDR which walled in its population and shot those who tried to leave. This is a common interpretation. Rammstein themselves have said that the lyrics can be about relationships where one partner isolates their partner from friends and family. Take your pick, Rammstein always has many bases and invites to different interpretations.
Yes. They are an amazing band. With my limited German 🇩🇪 I can see the duality in the little double meaning. Thanks for watching and commenting. It means the world to us. Thanks 🙏
Hi @au7685 Glad you like it! That is the beauty of music. There is so many great songs out there and you can not have heard them all. Most of the songs that Rockett recommends I have never heard.
Danish fan here! Great choice of song, Stein um Stein generally seems less appriciated by people outside the fanbase. I have seen the band live 17 times, they are the absolute masters of their craft. I even got to meet them at a meet&greet in 2022 which was an amazing experience. I hope you continue down the Rammstein rabbithole 😊
Hello @danishrammstein thanks for reaching out. Impressive that you have seen Rammstein 17 times. Og så er det nu at jeg kan afsløre at jeg også er dansk. Thomas her.
I have always thought about the meaning of this song to be of someone who excludes someone from their family. Basically having a relationship and cutting them off from the rest of their surroundings, making him/her dependent on the other one.

I'm going to build you a house

It'll be dark inside
No light will get in at all
Yes I'll make you a home
And you are to be a part of it all
Stone by Stone I wall you in

I'll always be with you
Without clothes without shoes
You watch me working
With your feet in cement
You brighten up the foundation
Outside there will be a garden
And no one will hear you scream
Stone by Stone I wall you in
Stone by Stone
I'll always be with you
I'll always be with you
