Baran always had a good shot to win against vearn even in his young prime body I would say a good 35 % chance to catch him off guard and kill him that's why vearn was so wary to challenge him and used dirty trick to get rid of him he didn't want to take no gamble. Don't get me wrong vearn is still much more stronger than him but he was too afraid of the dragon knight battle experience and the unknown potential of the dragon crest.
I think he had a good chance to wipe him in his Dragonoid form vs Vearn's old form. Dai's base two crest can best old Vearn so im guessing Baran's Dragonoid form is close enough to that level to peak the fear

Third: If King Farn did not know for sure that he would not survive a confrontation with Baran, he would not have used the trick, I mean the black core, to kill Baran and avoid any confrontation with him. Conclusion: Baran with his human heart and a dragon sword has the priority in eliminating King Farn with his own wand, but he certainly will not survive his mortal wounds..
