I figured when they made the Zelda cartoon they were based on the first Zelda game. In fact there was an episode where Gannon's vires blew apart the triforce of wisdom into three pieces with a bomb. Then Link and Zelda had to find the pieces of the triforce before Gannon.

Noooo not the Zelda cartoon too why that always sucked and never needed to be made And I'm sure almost every legend of Zelda fan wants to forget the show
I remember watching this on Netflix when I was a kid. I liked it. I never thought it was stupid. Some of the jokes even got a laugh out of me. Sometimes I still watch episodes online when I'm in the mood for it. What's so bad about it?
They brought the intro rap back as, get this, an advertising jingle for the actual Mario Bros plumbing company in the movie. That is dedication to fanservice!
Honestly, I love the Zelda cartoon. Might be because I was heavily into the game between the 64 age and the late Wii era, but cheese and all, I actually look forward to watching it. I even love Link's catch phrase, saying it with him every chance I get.. Same can't be said about the Mario Bros show though. I thought I would like it just because it had Mario on it, but nope. By episode 3, I was done with that horribleness.
8:00 Link shouldn't even have a sitcom catchphrase; he's a silent protagonist in the games for the same reason his name is Link: he's the link between the player and Hyrule. Having him talk such that the viewing audience can hear it goes against walk Link is supposed to be.
Fun fact: Princess Toadstool and King Koopa was the original names for Peach and Bowser, although Peach was always called that in Japan and Bowser is still called King Koopa in Japan. King Koopa was called Bowser in Super Mario World Princess Toadstool was called Peach in Super Mario 64.
11:41 For those who didn't know, the triforce of courage didn't exist in Zelda 1. In that game you got the pieces of the triforce of wisdom. It wasn't until Zelda 2 that the triforce of courage was introduced. The animated series was based on Zelda 1, although it did have some enemies from Zelda 2.
Luigi: "Calamitous CALAMARI!" Nostalgia Critic: "PASTA jokes!" You know calamari isn't pasta. Right? To be fair, it was still Italian, but it was a squid joke.
when I see link I see him as a courageous focused warrior who is straight to the point. I see Zelda as the girl who fights for hyrule and that if hyrule were to need her she would fight as much as she could. Not these two people who make me think "Hyrule is doomed"
Actually, Peach/Toadstool in the games has always been voiced by the woman. It's always tried to be a Minnie Mouse type voice, which in Doug's mind equals voiced by a man? Sometimes you confuse me, Walker.
5:35: Out of context, this wouldn't make sense. But with context, it does. The Koopa Troopa didn't want Tank of Spaghetti Sauce destroyed. If Bowser has it, he wins. If Mario has it, he wins. If the Tank is destroyed, NO ONE WINS!
9:18 "What's the point of the teleporting?" Be honest, if you could teleport with just the snap of your fingers, wouldn't you use that for *everything*, too?
I remember when super mario 3 came out, they kinda remade the show. It was the same animation, but they cut out the live action. Most episodes stayed in the mushroom kingdom or explained how they got to other locations. The intro was more of a monologue then a song. Overall tho, the show made more sense in terms of mario, compared to this.
Funny how 15 years later there are MULTIPLE Potlands.........and you can find them by a quick google search. Heck, now Doug LIVES in one of the Potlands.
You know this is my first ever review I saw of the nostalgia critic and if it wasn't for this episode I wouldn't have ever found James Rolfe and wanted to become a director so thanks Doug for all critiques and for directing me to my idol.
Honestly, I thought the Zelda cartoon was entertainingly bad. Still bad, just bad enough that it was entertaining. I actually would have loved more episodes than what we got. Nintendo needs to try making a new Zelda cartoon, set it in an alternate timeline or something, away from the bullshit "official timeline" that was just made to shut us fans up and stop us asking about it, and...oh yeah, keep Link silent! It's fine to imply that he can talk, he just chooses not to, and any time he's about to, just have him be hilariously or dramatically interrupted before he can share his thoughts. Or find some other way for him to communicate. As much as I love the "excuuuuse me, Princess!" line, it lost its appeal after the fourth time I heard it. With how animation has evolved, and with how great their writers can be these days, it shouldn't be hard to create a new Zelda cartoon, Mario cartoon, or even Metroid cartoon (Let's give Samus some love!) that looks good and has engaging story and dialogue.
To be fair if I could teleport I'd also just be randomly teleporting all over the place for no reason.
Yeah, if I were a megalomaniac like Ganon, I'd probably also be doing that.
Same.

I used to love this show but skipped the real life parts as a kid I may want to rewatch them
Noooo not the Zelda cartoon too why that always sucked and never needed to be made
And I'm sure almost every legend of Zelda fan wants to forget the show
In Japan bowser is named "koopa".
3:46
Is Bowser really wearing a Nazi armband with a K replacing the swastika?
Indiana Jones reference.
the snake firing bullets was from the game
6:18 Oh look, it's Slender Man's long lost cousin; Adventure Man.
Someone needs to show Doug the Megaman 80's cartoon. The suffering isn't only in nintendo.
IssyBlueKitten he is Nintendo
Sorry, I didn't know that. Thanks for telling me, I thought Capcom was a stand alone company.
IssyBlueKitten Capcom IS a standalone company. Mega Man is not Nintendo.
AdmiralOctopus omfg your profile pic is cute
I remember watching this on Netflix when I was a kid. I liked it. I never thought it was stupid. Some of the jokes even got a laugh out of me. Sometimes I still watch episodes online when I'm in the mood for it. What's so bad about it?
Nothing, it's just a comedy video
"watching this on Netflix when I was a kid"
Man, I feel so old right now...
Toad's voice is unbearable (sounds like an old woman from Queens) otherwise I love it
@@paulocardoso9605yeah, it’s like, if you were watching Netflix when you were a kid, you’re still a kid damnit
@@josephplacidi341 😂
4:22 i'd go to pot land.
+COLTON DOUGHERTY You're part of the problem
+Michael Collins my statement still stands.
+COLTON DOUGHERTY Two seconds before and it would have been perfect
+gameralfa095 shit! how did I miss that?! XD wish I could edit.
I've been to Pot Land.
Then I woke up in Taco Land.
13:49
Was that really in the show?
That was hilarious.
nope, that's Doug
Terminalmontage UA-cam
14:46 I didn't know that Chuck E. Cheese was working for Koopa
His name is mouser
well *excuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse* me princess
They brought the intro rap back as, get this, an advertising jingle for the actual Mario Bros plumbing company in the movie. That is dedication to fanservice!
6:36 one of Nostalgia Critic's funniest moments.
3:46 did any body else see bowser with a koopa swatchtica?
Who didn't?
I did!
Koopa Klux Klan
7:48 This is the birth of a legendary meme... a meme so over-used and awful even twelvies didn't like it.
Zoomspilo oh god I cringed
6:30, This still cracks me up to this day!
"I think I know why they call this place Hyrule, because it's ruled by a High King"
No that's Skyrim
The triforce of courage was NOT in the original legend of Zelda.
The game was collecting the eight fragmented pieces of the triforce of wisdom, than facing Ganon for the triforce of power
+Flightship true, the triforce of courage was first in zelda ii: the adventure of link
Flightship then it's a "triforce" why? because it's triangular? still makes more sense when it's one of three forces.
This series was made after zelda 2 came out at least in japan
Actually, Zelda 2 came out 1 year before the show came out. So, technically the writers for this show were just lazy.
The best thing about Super Mario Bros Super Show was the cover music they would play during the action scenes during its first run.
8:00 Link shouldn't even have a sitcom catchphrase; he's a silent protagonist in the games for the same reason his name is Link: he's the link between the player and Hyrule. Having him talk such that the viewing audience can hear it goes against walk Link is supposed to be.
And to think now we're enjoying the references to this show in the movie
You know what Pot Land actually sounds pretty enjoyable.
Fun fact: Princess Toadstool and King Koopa was the original names for Peach and Bowser, although Peach was always called that in Japan and Bowser is still called King Koopa in Japan.
King Koopa was called Bowser in Super Mario World
Princess Toadstool was called Peach in Super Mario 64.
Reminds me of the CDI games. Oh god the CDI games. Why the CDI games.
CDi had some good games, but the Zelda ones weren't those..
@@svenjansen2134 But It Makes Good UA-cam Poops...
Luigi: "Calamitous CALAMARI!"
Nostalgia Critic: "PASTA jokes!"
You know calamari isn't pasta. Right? To be fair, it was still Italian, but it was a squid joke.
The snake shooting bullets actually makes sense because of super mario bros 2
Peach is voiced by Jen Taylor who also voices Cortanna. My mom's worked with her before and she's super cool.
I don't care what anyone says - The 'Excuuuuuse me, Princess' line is brilliant.
This show is on Netflix now. My kid loves it!
Kid are scary creature for sure...
+DrRawley I used to watch it as a kid too, good times
RapidRobby7394
I did too, forgot how silly it was.
+DrRawley I got it on dvd.
+DrRawley I did when I was young...
3:54 Koopa is Darth Vader or should I say Darth Koopa? Nothing? Okay, I’ll sit in the corner.
when I see link I see him as a courageous focused warrior who is straight to the point.
9:35
"Why?"
Probably skipped on animation costs
3:11 Well, King Koopa is what Bowser is called in Japan. So, I'm guessing that King Koopa is his real name. Ouch
Not anymore since Mario 64
In the Super Mario Bros. 3 cartoon, he says “I am Bowser Koopa. King Koopa to you!”
13:49 - Did that really just happen or was it just editing?
5:16 I just remember Doug was grow up in Italy XD
9:18
"What's the point of the teleporting?"
Be honest, if you could teleport with just the snap of your fingers, wouldn't you use that for *everything*, too?
9:56 so that's why link doesn't talk in the games
I remember when super mario 3 came out, they kinda remade the show. It was the same animation, but they cut out the live action. Most episodes stayed in the mushroom kingdom or explained how they got to other locations. The intro was more of a monologue then a song. Overall tho, the show made more sense in terms of mario, compared to this.
1:41, That's Maurice Lamarche aka The Brain (Pinky and The Brain) in the private detective get-up!
13:49 TerminalMontage anyone?
ganon in the games: i am a mighty beast and will rule hyrule
ganon in the show: haha i teleport
Funny how 15 years later there are MULTIPLE Potlands.........and you can find them by a quick google search. Heck, now Doug LIVES in one of the Potlands.
Zelda: "This is the twoforce of Wisdom Link. The evil Wizard Ganon has the twoforce of Power."
6:53 because he is Cobrat
