This is such a lovely comment, thank you so much! Your words really do mean a lot and put a massive smile on my face - I don't like talking technical details hehe 🙃 (And I am sorry for the delay in replying, I had a bit of a backlog!) thank you and have a fab day ☺️
Love your videos. They always put a smile on my face. I have been considering buying the 100 - 400 mm lens recently. Your review nailed it. I will definitely be buying it. Many thanks for a great review.
You are wonderful! I just discovered you and I can't get enough. I will be going on safari in July. How did you back up your photo's and how many batteries did you take?
Thanks for the info. Knowing the size difference between the 100-400 and 150-600, which would you take if you go back on safari? And would you need the 50-140 for the f2.8 at all? What would your entire kit be on a return trip?
Thank you for this video its fantastic to see your foto are they Raw fotos sure meney people work on them bot i think its more fun to see wot you get from the Geer you use ✌️ hope i make sense
Thank you and that does make sense! Yes I like to keep my images as real as possible but also, because of Fuji’s film simulations there are many times where I have not needed to adjust my photos because they look great as they are 🙃
Great review Victoria and the pictures and videos are superb. I am going on holiday soon and will be taking my XT-4. Can you advise on the the best settings for video as I have never used the camera to film something and you have inspired me to have a go?
Thank you so much and it is so lovely to read that you have been inspired - that is the best! I hope you have a wonderful time on your holiday too! In terms of settings I can recommend shooting in either 23.98p or 24p for normal shooting or you can swap to slo motion (I recommend shooting in this) at 120p or 240p. You can shoot in 4k but FHD words just as fine. 8 bit will be fine, H.264. You can keep your Mbps around 100 or more - but the higher (and same for shooting in 4K) makes the files bigger. But best just to test out what suits your shooting style and vibe you want to go for - I hope that helps a bit! 🙃
I've been umming and ahhing about upgrading from the ickle 50-230mm to the 100-400mm for ages. I was worried I would spend the money and be disappointed. Watched a few of your videos and put my order in a couple days ago. It arrived today and I can't wait to get out properly to use it. I'm pairing it with an X-T3 and looking forward to following a few of your tips for videography too. Keep up the good work!
Thank you for your lovely comment! This made me smile sooo much, i’m so glad my video could help you - that has always been my aim and it is so lovely to read it did! I hope you enjoy it and have a wonderful time shooting. If you need any help just ask ☺️✌🏻
Definitely putting this lens on the list to get at some point in the future. The weather sealing would be a concern for me but you’ve proven it’s up to the job. Great video again! 🙌🏻
hahaha best. review. ever. Your laugh is contageous... and I loved the review, which is why I was here to start with. Cheers from your newest subscriber ! :)
First I like thank you for the great videos. As I am currently seeking for a >=400mm zoom this video and those you did using the 150-600 on the X-T5 are very helpful. Did you tried the 100-400 on the X-T5?
Thank you so much! This is very kind and im glad it could help. Unfortunately at the time of using the 100-400mm abroad, I did not have the X-T5 so i have not tested it on it. The 150-600mm works great on the X-T5 and i’m sure the 100-400mm would be the same 🙃
Thank you so much! and yes it is fantastic, if you can check out (you can skip through if it's easier) my X-H2S review there is some sunrise landscape stuff on there and my original review of the 100-400mm as I have landscape shots of a cloud inversion 🙃
I should add it is a very diverse lens, the only downfall with landscape is the narrow field of view and that it is cropped more. So just bear that in mind but if that is what you are after and want more specific shots it does work great 🙃
What a fantastic review and I must congratulate you on some stunning photography. Just bought this lens again with the XH2 and will most certainly not be getting rid of it again. Love the refreshing, enthusiastic presentation of your videos. Keep up the great work.
Thank you very much for watching and leaving a comment! Yes it is a fantastic lens and coupled with the XH2s, you can’t really go wrong - i am loving that camera the more and more that I use it! Thank you, yes it’s how I go about life, with a smile and enthusiasm. Have a lovely evening ☺️✌🏻🌞
Love your energy and eye for compositions! I noticed you had high ISOs on some of your shots, did you use any sort of denoising software on the edits or was it unnecessary? Thanks for the great content!
Thank you very much! I did indeed, especially for the gorillas and chimpanzees, and yes I just use the denoise feature in Lightroom and other saved the really low light shots - sometimes noise I think can look a bit retro and traditional but for these shots it was needed 🙂
Thank you so much for the reply and for the info! I’ve had great results with Lightroom’s Denoise feature also, glad to know that’s all that was needed. All your safari shots are amazing 🤩
OMG your images are amazing Victoria. Love your enthusiasm in your videos. I am looking for a telephoto zoom for a mixture of wildlife and potentially sports. Would you recommend the 100-400 over the 70-300?
Thanks for another great review. Now that you've done a safari, what lenses would you take with you next time you go on safari? Is the 100-400 enough, or would you bring a prime lens or two? Did you wish you had a wide angle with you for landscape, or if an animal approached your vehicle? I'm going to Kenya for safari next month. I'm planning on primarily using the 100-400, but will also bring my 27mm since it is so compact and light. I'm not sure that I'll buy any more lenses ahead of this trip, but would appreciate your thoughts on what you would bring next time in case I do. Thank you.
Thank you very much! So I have done separate vlogs about the specific safaris trips so definitely check them out as I talk more about equipment on there - I have just released ones about Kenya so have a look if you can. So I took my XH2S which had the 100-400mm attached most of the time & my XT3 which had my 23mm f/1.4 attached where I could get landscape and wider scenery shots. Having the two camera bodies really helped as I didn’t have to keep changing lenses - especially it being so dusty there. So definitely take your 27mm it will be great. But more of the time I used the 100-400mm and I would take this again. If I went again I would take more batteries and if I could afford one, a gimbal but it isn’t necessary. I hope this helps and I hope you have a fantastic time in Kenya 🙃✌🏻
Get the 1.4x teleconverter, you are going to lose some image quality and a couple of stops of light with a teleconverter. I have the 1.4 teleconverter which I use with my 70-300mm lens for best portability, image quality suffers a tad especially at the long end. The 2x teleconverter will give more reach but even more image degradation, general consesus seems to be the 1.4x is a better option.
Great video as usual. Keep it up! We can learn form you. A question: you, as a person who has used the 100-400 and also the 150-600, what is the F stop of the 150-600 when it is at 400mm (I know it is an f 8 at 600)... I own the 70-300... wanted to upgrade to the 150-600, the 100-400 being similar in price... So confused Thanks
I completely agree with you there! The extra reach and stability is fantastic for smaller subjects like nuthatches etc. - I am hopefully going to get some puffin shots for my review of the 150-600 just depends on the bird flu situation but i’m looking forward to it! And yes I agree with you 🙃✌🏻
If you’ve been in dry dusty areas, you might consider sending it for a cleaning… same goes for damp humid areas, like the Amazon… the moisture conditions are more important to combat, it either will kill the lens performance over time.

Well a city safari is as good as the rest, it sounds like it did fantastic! and yes, you do get some funny looks from folk when you wonder around with a telephoto lens! Keep enjoying yourself 🙃
This was a great, detailed review. 😃👌This lens is a beast! I didn't know this lens has been around for a few years, but it's definitely one to consider along with the 70-300 and the 150-600. I can't remember to be honest, I don't think so as the cats were pretty close! if I did crop it wasn't a lot anyway :)
