This video was filmed more than a month ago, and I still haven't heard back from them via email. Was hoping that, at some point, they'd at least respond with a more specific parts breakdown, but I'm not even sure this business is even "in business" at this point. Will try reaching out again soon. I'll also offer any assistance/guidance if they're open to it. Would make for a cool mini-series and would provide the business with decent exposure.
Maybe he's not working anymore? It seems the website only had i9s with up to 8 cores which means he probably hasn't been updating the website since the ryzen 3000 launch. On the upside you're probably not gonna get sued by him
this is kinda making me sad and angry :(
@Connectron Builds He probably put out a patent for the 250 - 450w variable psu and is earning millions of dollars right now.
Can't fault him, I wouldn't pass up a chance like that either.
Lol I live in Orlando. Didn’t know you did too bro🙏
Small world. There aren’t much or if any at all true competitors here for micro center or Best Buy. I buy stuff now from Best Buy often now.
@I OFFER YOU THIS he literally said Orlando
Dauntless Computers doesn't mark up prices by 200%, they mark up prices by 300%-500% !!! Always exceeding customers expectations!!!
I made a new rule when shopping for anything PC related: If the seller doesn't explain exactly which type of hardware they are selling, i'm going to just assume its the lowest of the lowest end version of that hardware.
I've seen pc builders selling pc's with ' a ryzen 3600 + mobo'. Not even the chipset, so 'll assume it's the cheapest A320 they could find.
I've seen the video now, this was even worse.
That should apply for everything. Cars, computers, any part of sometjing that isnt explicitly stated is probably nothing special or even pretty bad.
It's been a while pewdiepie's sister.
Good rule. If people are being vague or using buzzwords to describe, that's usually a bad sign. To me, "450w PSU" sounds like "cheap PSU". If people use good/high quality parts in the builds they sell, they usually list the brand name and/or model, as it makes for a good selling point.
least expensive entry to pc gaming for $850
Me who built mine for $350: Guess it's not meant for gaming.
WHO THE HELL trades stocks with 5K monitors???
😂😂😂😂😂
Most companies use CHEAP 1080p TN monitors.
Traders that want GAMING PSU’s
Traders that also want an ATX motherboard hanging out of a mATX case!
don't laugh, they are soon going to upgrade to rtx 3090.
Best way to see your stocks tanking.
I worked as a vendor on site for a certain high end memory manufacture. Ya the computers they supplied were still on hhd’s and intel 2nd gen i7s.
The parts are vague because they gauge the customers knowledge and rip them off as they see fit
It would actually be more like a car dealer listing the engine: standard I4-V8.
Computer websites like Dauntless is the new Car Dealerships. There is no salesman to see because he/she is behind the scenes . They don’t have to lie to your face anymore , they now do it by slick suspect advertising tactics. Thx👍 Greg for this video because I am not a Gammer and I could have easily been fooled by the $800 price in which I might add that, you found one for much better price and even upgraded everything for a much much much lower price. Thank you and the fact that you are willing to help them shows how much honesty means to you. It’s rare to find people like you online.
Your content is always honest and consumer focused. You need a gold medal.
hey can you look at lyte technology again. they have a custom pc builder nd have changed pricing
Three days later, a Fisher Price "My first computer" gets delivered to your house. Yeeeeeeaah.
[Puts on sunglasses] YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!
They're actually worth quite a bit now haha
Aaron’s Electronics is trying to sell “gaming rigs” for around $3,500 total loan that have Ryzen 5 3200g and RX550, two monitors (60Hz 1080p), mouse, keyboard, headphones. It was extremely depressing to see that there are actually a few reviews for them too
good video, i hate when scammers pretend like they know nothing about their systems but claim they been doing computers for years.
On top of everything else, who TF thought "dauntless" was a good name for the store!? 😂😆
LOL, I didn't expect to see Kevin Spacey on the front page.
14:00 You forgot to include the dremel for the case.
I had a system with an MATX fractal design focus G plus an aftermarket fan for exhaust (came with 2 front intake), 600W 80+ bronze EVGA ps, Adata 256 Gb SSD plus a Seagate 1Tb hybrid drive for mass storage, Intel Pentium G3258 8Gb DDR3 Asus Strix 750 ti 2Gb OC video card, cant remember Mb. Gave it to my friend for free to put in his bedroom where I knew it would be subjected to cat hair and dust from local construction and train tracks running next door. Probably set a value of $250 on it and it is comparable to their $850 system.
That font reminds me of those old tutorials with 009 sound system music running in the back titled "how to download more RAM for smoother club penguin money farming"
I'd love to see an update on this. Looking at their website it looks like they've taken a little of what was said onboard. Their cheapest PC is now $1200 though.
Wow that website design is a huge mess.
As someone who lives in Florida who the hell is Dauntless computers😂
Cool name shifty service lol.
For 850 bucks I could have build a PC that crushes that shit with ease and would have left enough for a monitor, mouse and a decent keyboard.
Built my first rig in 2015 from pcpartpicker.
More people need to use that resource
i like how on the 850 dollar rig the intel setup is seems to be more robust for a 850 dollar price tag compared to the amd setup
I've never seen a computer marked up 200%, not even a Mac.
I really envy US prices right now. Everything here has inflated prices. I tried to quote those exact parts here and it totals to $700 converted to US. At least the one that Greg made. Not the Sentry. Won't be able to without specifics.
TBH, making a business with selling desktop PCs is pointless these days. Because of competition. Especially with Amazon, Newegg and Microcenter.
It also says "full custom build, any parts you want". That's just not true... it's any part you want that they offer which isn't very many. lol
Funny how the "gaming" pc uses standard motherboards and psu's, but the stock trading specifically uses the actual "gaming" ones.
i love these videos because i'm EXACTLY the kinda person these sorta sites prey on. i never really learned how PCs work so i get really frustrated and overwhelmed doing any sorta research on parts and cave into these sorta services. These videos are a really good reminder that i actually should just suck the frustration up and do at least the bare minimum research before just throwing my money down a well like this lmao
over 1 year later nothing on their sight has changed
5:25...Nebulous is a good word
My neighbor sadly got scammed by a company like this, she paid $2500 for a am2 phenom and a gt 710 with 4gb ddr2, and this was 3 years ago. She wanted me to fix it, because the psu they used killed the gpu, cpu, and ram. I told her it's not worth repairing.
I'm only just starting my IT program at my local college, and this was obvious to even me that this business was trying to cheat customers out of money as much as possible and being as vague as possible to trick people that aren't knowledgeable. I'm honestly impressed you weren't even more obviously angry, because tbh it made even my ignorant ass angry.
All their social media sites are dead so I guess they are not in business or give a crap about anyone else lol. Great video Greg. This would be a great series, I think you should do more of them. I'm sure there are great private PC builders out there who are struggling to get their word out who deserve a decent exposure to get some business.
I'm so glad I had my Ryzeb 7 2700x and an MSI B450 gaming pro carbon AC for £150 on facebook marketplace, I had an FX8300 and it felt so slow compared. Plus going from ddr3 to ddr4 was awesome. Also bought a GTX 1060 6GB (pre lockdown) for £40. my system only cost me around £350 including a new Corsair 275R Airflow case and fully modular power supply and 2 SSD's and of course the RGB fans for more fps lol nah their just set to a light blue..looks amazing and works great...shop around and be patient
Regarding the “order loop,” if COVID has hit this business that hard, I wouldn’t be surprised if they’ve taken everything down waiting to regroup when prices normalize or components become more readily available again. They don’t want to flat out turn you away, but maybe they expect you to email as you guessed. As for the prices, I’m assuming their market is Orlando retirees with old New York money who want to buy a PC for their grandkids. That’s the only way I can explain how they’ve been able to get away with such sparse information and such high prices.
Great video Greg 👍. You are the Clark Kent of UA-cam, good looking on the outside and technical/nerdy on the inside.
*$850USD from PCpartpicker can get you this... (including crappy case and PSU but whatever)...*
R5-3600 (6-core CPU),
RX-5500XT 8GB video card
16GB DDR4 3200MHz,
120GB SSD,
1TB HDD
“At competing PC companies you’ll often see each of your upgrade options marked up as much as 200%. At dauntless computers you don’t have to worry about that. Instead, we’ll mark it up way more than 200%.”
North Orlando? Hell, I'm over in Longwood, we're practically neighbors!
Those vague specifications mean they won't need to update the site for years.
Plus my girlfriend helps edit sometimes so we pass back on forth on some of my editing when I go to work where I can't stand a desk job all the time.
I need to move markets, that "sentry" is a pc I would sell for 350 at most lol. According to his popularity stars on that website, I'd be making a killing down there.
Yall have a goodnight and be safe that just woke me up when I heard 850
PSA: You can pay 2$ US for a windows key on ebay. The websites specifically made to get these keys also buy them from ebay. Just go ahead and buy it from ebay for 10,20,30 dollars cheaper
Hmm charging $850 for a $500 system, they must be using Aussie dollars and not USD :P
Linus at LTT literally showed that you can get great gaming performance from a $69 pc, so $850 clearly isn't the "least expensive," not even subjectively
Wait till you see Giga Parts. Their lowest pc is 800 dollars and its advertised as a "gaming pc" THEY DON'T EVEN PUT A GPU IN IT.
I can't help but to feel pissed off by that outlandish pricing, in my country, 850$ would net you 3600 and RX 5600 XT with 16 gigs of RAM, a decent AsRock motherboard and a cheap decent case at the same time, seems like this is just outright scam at this point because no entry level PCs should be priced that high with those crappy specs
It's actually 2 terrabytes for 9.99 a month that way I can back up all my data if I go to upgrade my pc again where I put a lot of time and thought on how I want my setups to be
Wow... just wow!
Im building a whole PC to help sell my rtx 2080 when I get a (good) 3080. R7 3600, quality b550m board, h510 case, 16gb of ram, 250gb m.2, 960 ssd, and 1tb HDD, 700w psu. I was gonna ask 1100 for it which seems like a steal compared to these.
Good luck. That gpu is slower than the 3060. You won't get any money for it
@@timothygibney5656 not if it doesnt exist. Those GPU arent worth anything if they aren't attainable. But I was able to sell it.
Big ouch with this company.
I just built my wife a SFF computer for 950$ w/ tax:
Ryzen 5 3600
GTX 970 4gb
MSI B450i w/ AC Wifi + BT
1TB NVME
850 Fully Modular PSU
16GB 3600Mhz DDR4 CL 18
120mm Fan
During price fluctuations with this pandemic!
If they stay vague about the specificities, it's not by accident.
Real OG's remember the name science studio
this is exactly like sending your car to a service and receive a 1k bill for an actual 200$ damage and repair.
The 6 core processor in that 1300$ custom built is most likely a 3600.
Xeon 4core 8thread 3.6ghz
16GB ram
120Gb SSD
1tb HDD
Gtx 1650
Aftermarket case with 4 RGB fans
650w corsair PSU
Thermal take HUUUGE air cooling tower
500 BUCKS.
Just sold friday
Id love to start a PC building business, just seems like something that wouldnt be profitable or worth the effort, its just adult lego. There are also far to many pre built companies charging out the ass, so a lot of people arent willing to pay that cost and just toss the shit together themselves lol
I do to along with a help build where the person can build the pc with guidance in store, but before they can plug in the computer the guide makes sure it is properly installed, and is the one tha installs the processor
My R5 1600 AF is 220.00 on amazon now its suppose to be 85.00 a R3 3100 180.00 suppose to be 99.00 R3 3300X 180.00 suppose to be 119.00 tech prices change a friend told me i don't build a computer on 1 to 3 % margins you go out of business that way so what seems expensive in a week can be cheap after all i remember 750.00 RX 580's so you do what you need to to stay in business.
Am getting sick of people using the C 19 as an excuse these days. How is that effecting they replies and pricing?
Check out some of the uk sites. Alphasync, pc specialist, chillblast, and overclockers... be good to see a proper comparison to uk/us pricing/performance
I smell a potential lawsuit every time Greg posts these types of videos. I highly doubt these businesses are looking for advice.
He had one before and it went nowhere, Greg is safe lol
Hi Greg! Just bought a second Windows 10 Pro key from vip-scdkey. Thanks for the link and the discount :) I use Remote Desktop a lot, so the Pro version is super useful to me.
Geeez...That first system that you highlighted is about a $450 system. This is why I love when you do these videos. Some people out there may not know this stuff and go ahead and buy this system.
EDIT: Oh....yeah....You did the PC part picker thing. I commented too soon.
@@spaghettiupseti9990 Damned if you do damned if you don't.
I have been on Newegg the past few days pricing out similar systems and I'm getting far better components for about $100 less than those 2 systems. And Newegg barely charges shipping and doesn't tax me in FL.
"Constructive feedback". AKA, do want to get sued. Again.
4 core ryzen cpu and rx 460 💀
You could build a r5 1600af and 2060 ko with 16gb of ddr4 ram not even mentioning an ssd for that price probably doubling your fps and just preforming much better
Lol I live in Orlando. Didn’t know you did too bro🙏
Small world. There aren’t much or if any at all true competitors here for micro center or Best Buy. I buy stuff now from Best Buy often now.
The value proposition of these companies cannot be solely based upon putting a computer together since the skills required to do so is pretty low. I believe that custom PC builders should really try to offer a service/product that requires more effort that CAN'T be bought through a regular marketplace.
I discuss this a bit in my "PC Resale Businesses Aren't Easy" video. Definitely difficult to differentiate yourself from the competition.
The least expensive yet enjoyable gaming pc that'll perform well for quite competitive 1080p (1% lows generally above 60fps) gaming in the most popular ''e sports'' games as of right now, would be made with used parts that's in great condition, for something between 200 - 500$ the price range there is from hard to do to practically cheating with mix of new parts.
I wouldn't pay 350$ for that shit lmao
Have you review Lyte Gaming PCs?
Already have.
@@GregSalazar wen? ive been seeing their ads a lot it would be nice if you linked the vid
@@vanillamilk3063 You can manually search through his videos.....
Idk about anyone else, but to me this looks more like a scam website intended to harvest personal information than a poorly made business website.
I spent overall a little $700 in total with my GTX1060 I bought prior and I should run Cyberpunk 2077 fairly good surprisingly but will see.
youve got some great content! I love the videos and helpful advice for consumers and business owners
WHy would you have Kevin Spacey as the first person you see on your website?
The most ironic part of this is how good the reviews are for this place on Google and Yelp.
Our local prison has good reviews on Google, that says nothing.
Misplaced apostrophe in *beginners'*. A true tell.
It´s hard for me to believe that no one in the tech industry has ever scammed some non tech savy people.
This may be a money laundering business
@14:30 ... or simply build a FOSS system with Linux and uses Steam and Proton as well as Lutris to play games. Works fine for the vast majority of titles. You can do pretty much anything else, too. Unless you are "forced" to use industry grade standard software like an Adobe suite. :)
Are the parts compatible. The PSU wattage is important for powering the motherboard and peripherals
So they build a $350/400 dollar system and sell it to you for $850. Gotcha!
Lol I Got A Mid-Roll Add From Lyte Technology Custom PC's Ah-ha-ha-ha
The Sentry build doesn't help with the misconception that you have to spend at least $1000 for a decent rig. 😒
More than a year later, same prices same vague listings.
Actually in his PC part picker list he put a 570 4gb for $130. Now you can get one for $350
14:21 Worst case 99,99$ 630$ not 850$
You pissed them off I’m sure .
My unregistered Windows 10 would not let me set up file sharing between computers on my local network, with it specifically saying I need to register Windows....
Never had that issue.
The loop might be deliberate until they redo their stock/build/prices.
That would be good if it was 70% the price , 4 years ago
Visit them in their store
Threw together a build on Overclockers UK (so all new parts) that more or less crushes this in gaming for £550 (despite exchange rates £1=$1 for computer hardware in my experience) RX 580, 1TB SSD, Corsair PSU. Could probably do better as it really was a quick throw together. It's true you need to add the cost of am OS licence onto that but that's only another £100 or so for Win10.
Just saw that the Intel system is a Pentium G4600, that's a 3 year old 2C/4T chip. I was wondering whether the 3100 I put in that build might be a bit light but if that's the CPU standard for that price range I think I overkilled it a bit.
850 USD could build my PC lmao, 6700K at 4.5ghz sitting in an MSI Z170A Gaming MX5 Cooled by a Corsair H60 AIO, RX 5700 XT at 2.1ghz, 16gb DDR4 3200mhz, 4TB's of HDD's, a 120gb Boot Drive SSD, and 256GB NVME Gaming Storage SSD, Blu Ray Drive, in a Phantom 410 with a Corsair CX750M. At least last time i checked my PC was like 1500 CAD, which is pretty damn close to 850USD.
Sure a lot of my parts are getting up there in age because ive been adding on and swapping stuff on this PC for like 5 years now, but still for 850 to 950USD my PC would hands down slap that piddly 850USD option they have around.
Just saw Greg's build, same Coolermaster case, I stayed with 8GB RAM at 3200mhz. No reason not to have a 1tb SSD they're cheap enough now, almost went for the 1tb M.2 drive but seem too fancy.
@@TheAnon03 with ps5 and Xbox x having fast storage m.2 ssds are the go to for gaming I'd say. Replacing hard drives with sata ssds would be fine but you need the fastest connection with games next gen actually starting to take advantage of it
@@thefilmdirector1 Bit of a "wait and see" on just how well developers manage to use the faster storage, right now even SATA's not being fully used so it will probably be quite a while before NVMe speeds become necessary. That said I moved all my gaming over to a 2tb Sata SSD last year, as much as I miss the sounds of HDD's spinning solid state is the way of the future.
Nice PC btw, mines a bit of a mishmash of parts from upgrades over the years. Using a 4970k in a ROG Maximus VII Hero MB cooled by a Noctua D14(maybe D15) Saphire Vega64, 16GB of DDR3 1866mhz, about 6-8TB of active HDD's atm, 2TB Samsung QVO for most of my gaming, 500GB SSD for things like Fallout and skyrim, 250gb m.2 NVMe for OS and pagefile and a dvd drive in the original Cosmos 's' Sport case from when I first built this machine in 2009 (Getting to be a bit of a ship of theseus as this point) and running Win7 Pro 64bit.
Ok an amd 5500 6 core 12 threads are going for what 94 bucks. A motherboard 84, case 56, a radeon 8 gb is 178 right? 3 fans for 12 bucks, 2 ssds at 6 gigabytes a second threw timetec are 36 a piece dont need a fan with the amd ryzen chip just over 500 bucks maybe after shipping and handling idk about the graphics card as much.
Waiting to hear about the lawsuit being filed, because that proved so much more productive than an open dialogue and accepting that there is room for improvement.
9:59 Is no one gonna comment on how its a mATX case, but an ATX mobo🤣🤣
Pmsl that did make me scratch my head
Even worse is almost 2 years later and they still have the same website except even higher prices. Even more of a scam. You should do a redo of this to show how bad they are now. Especially since they never probably emailed you again since the video was made. PLEASE REVISIT IT!!!
But I allocate all my games onto 1 ssd then as I clip and edit videos I'll toss the the trash in with my games delete those keep the good stuff to allocate space better then upload plus I also use 1tb from Google drive for clips to highlight some of the most epic moments and insured it all for 18 bucks.
PRO TIP: You don't need to buy a key if you have you're Windows 8.1 key. This key if legit will allow you to activate 10 and 11.
