Nothing more intense as cutting a trailer. I’ve had two trailers win some indie film festival awards after taking your trailer course. Its so enjoyable listening to your story. I’ve literally spent months listening to your voice. Nice to get to know the person who has had such a huge impact on my life. 🙏
Thank you for this interview Chris. I'm a student of Film editing pro. Your classes helped me transition from corporate video to film advertising. My Landing trailer got me a job at a trailer house in LA 2 years ago. I also can't dance, don't follow sports, and I'm clueless when it comes to today's music. I listen to a lot of instrumental stuff as well.
A kindred & non-dancing spirit! Congrats on the trailer job in LA - that's outstanding and I'm so glad the training helped you land it (pun sort of intended).
As a professional Film & Trailer editor from Dominican Republic, I Loved this conversation and saw it through all the way. Great content Guys. 🙌. So much truth in this video. Congratulations on your channel, love your tutorials.
This was a fab chat guys. I'm a junior trailer editor right now and this really helped keep my doubts at bay and motivate me to keep putting in the hard yards! Would love to see part 2. Thanks! :)
Looking forward to part 2 and also would love to see if maybe you could do a little question and answer video at some point. These conversations do bring up questions in my mind I would love to get a deeper take on. Thanks for this channel Chris, been able to help me learn new techniques while I save up for your full course!
Thanks Chris and Zach for recording your conversation on your experiences in the craft and art of editing. Chris, the mention of our metronome resonated with me. What a great way to describe editing short and long form film projects. I learned a lot more from this discusion, so please share more as you can. I am enjoying being a student of Film Editing Pro!! Thanks!!
Thank you for providing this interview! It was so interesting to hear more about you background and experiences Chris. Would definitely love to hear/see Part 2!
I am a fulltime editor for a production company and I can relate to all of this and mean all what Chris spoke about. But the one thing I found very interesting was that Chris talked about how short form editors are better problem solvers than long form. I haven't been able to edit a film just yet. But I have taken that board for sure. And YES I would love to see part two.
Nice to meet you, great story, mine is similar, but working in a small city in Croatia is a lot different 😅 But being 40 with more than 15 years of editing I can totally relate. These days I also enjoy making trailers and doing postproduction. Good luck with your channel, its the best one about video editing that I found, ever ✌️
I've paused at 1:34 because I'm glad to have found a reviewed many of your free content this afternoon trying to decide if I should invest. The BTS story of the why behind your enterprise Chris is as important to me as the content because its the seeds that start us off on this journey to become who we are destined to be, and we like following an learning in community with those on similar journeys. So YES to the part 2 which may already be here but I haven't yet scene it ;)
This conversation is really interesting. Regarding trailers spoiling the ending, in particular, I actually think that trailers spoil the journey that Chris is talking about. That's why I watch about 30 seconds of a trailer and then shut it off. As an editor for over 25 years, I have an incredibly strong visual memory, and I don't want powerful images in the trailer to ruin the surprise of the IRL reveal. Despite feeling that way about trailers, I really, really want to cut them, and think that I'd be great at it, especially after listening to this conversation.
This is a great channel. Great videos. I would appreciate any sample when you have to deal with nest sequences inside another nest and another nest. Thanks.
How does the final audio mixing process typically occur in a Hollywood trailer house? Is the mix engineer situated in the same office/building as the editor, and does the editor have any influence on the final audio mix? In my experience (that is Eastern Europe, small market, freelance work), it often happens that sound mixing is carried out by the same person who is mixing the movie itself. Usually, they overlook sound effects and don't invest much effort in the trailer. Consequently, I often find myself listening to a final trailer that differs in quality from what I have sent in the AAF/OMF.
Chris, thanks for responding to my email this morning. Finally pulled the trigger and bought your course w Premiere tutorials. Looking forward to connecting with y/our community and learning together. Peace and grace :) P.S. @jamesdocs thanks for making time to respond and encourage the start of my journey too with KC area non-profits, volunteers etc.

Hay this conversation is a great one very helpful
I started my editing life with two 3/4 inch tapes and a 900 Sony editor. Loved it. Now, I edit in premiere.
