ℹ️Things You Need To Know:
Howdy from Dallas, Texas. I am Ray, the owner of Hike-ALOT and also co-owner of the Texas Survival School. I am a certified hiking guide with the American Hiking Guide Association & Northeast Mountain Guides, wilderness survival instructor with Texas Survival School, Red Cross instructor for Adult & Pediatric CPR/AED and Wilderness First Aid, plus Stop The Bleed instructor with up to date credentials in Leave No Trace and Outdoor Ethics / Stewardship.
The Hike-ALOT school itself was born as an avenue to give students from the wilderness survival school and my frequent day hiking companions, make the jump from day hiking to overnight backpacking. The name itself is a reference to where our students come from - Arkansas(A), Louisiana(L), Oklahoma(O), and Texas(T). That is why it is "ALOT" instead of "a lot".

5:00 Rota Locura offers a 3 piece carbon fiber spreader bar set for the Ridge Runner. I upgraded recently. Glad I did it. Cuts the weight for the bars almost in half. If you're only doing car camping or short backpacking trips, the stock bars are fine, but if you ever do longer days on the trail, the carbon fiber bars are totally worth it.
I saw that you use your trekking poles as spreader bars. That's cool, but it means you can't use your poles to put your tarp in porch mode. Also, I like the trekking poles I use, and I don't really want to limit my trekking pole options to only the select few that can be adapted for use as spreaders.
I’ve looked at those spreader bars before and considered buying them but since I started using the trekking poles it made it unnecessary. I dont usually do the porch mode but if I want to I set up where I can tie the porch off to another tree.
Thanks for suggesting Tyvek insert for mosquitos. And I had no idea the poles nested. I bought mine used.
I'm glad you found it useful and appreciate you checking it out. Yeah anything to help keep the mosquitoes from feasting on me is always a plus.
My all-time favorite shelter system is a Warbonnet Blackbird XLC hammock with a double bottom for insulating pad and custom Superfly tarp!!
Like minds Ray!
A lot of folks love those.
I have this setup and lovin it
Awesome video, thank you!

FYI: sew loops on the bottom corners and center points for tent stakes, then support the top by ridge lines.
This way the hammock can be setup on the ground when it can't be hung.
Of course, it's just a backup configuration, but it works.
Do you recommend buying this with additional mounting options or will it work without them?
I use mine with the whoopie slings mostly and have been pleased but have also used it just with a carabiner and atlas straps.
I sure like that hat! What kind is it? Great video by the way! I’m in search of the right hammock for me. I’ve bought tons of various gear finding out what works for me and what doesn’t.
It’s a Tilley. I’ve gone through quite a few hats and they are by far my favorites. I have a couple of them at this point and constantly swap back and forth.
@@Hike-ALOT Oh ok. Thank you! I’ll have to check those out. I appreciate the response!
You’re quite welcome. I appreciate you taking the time to check out a video.
@@Hike-ALOT Yes Sir!
Cost too much for a hammock
It’s pricey but mine gets used A LOT so I felt it was worth it but I did wait for their twice a year sale. They cut prices pretty steeply then.
I think its well priced. Quality must cost.
I've got a eno skylite currently it's lighter and not crazy priced , quality doesn't have to be expensive buddy .
It’s not expensive for a good quality one
