I pick this game back up every year since It came out. This year, I’ve been playing a lot of resident evil, & decided to pick Chris up for my 3rd slot. Thanks for the guide. This game is a classic. I believe in Chris
So this is the best, most comprehensive, informative and well put together Mahvel tutorial I have seen to date. Even better than Lythero's Phoenix Wright tutorial and Max's Assist Me series. Chris is one of the characters I have yet to learn, and I'll certainly be returning in the future. Liked and subscribed. You've certainly earned it ;)
This is by far the best Chris guide I've ever seen. I like that you used source material to explain some of Chris' moves, it definitely helps to know the pros and cons. Thank you for making this. It certainly has reminded me how great Chris really is as a character.
Gonna have this guide on repeat for awhile so I can cram my brain with all of your very valuable Chris knowledge! :D Thank you so much for the guide! Video guides are always a great starting point when learning a character for me! :D
This is the stuff I like to see. Players who are passionate about their characters making informative guides. I don't even wanna know how long it took to record/edit 7:10 to 7:40 lol. Anyway great stuff man, def inspired me to work on the Chris team again.
Not only is this the best Chris Redfield guide i've ever seen, i'd say it's the best guide for ANY character in UMVC3. Seriously this was a blast to watch it's so informative and as a huge Chris fan i really appreciate what you've done for us.
No problem. I've been practicing my Chris since watching this and would love to play you if you have a PSN account. To you or anyone else who is reading this and has a PS triple I'm TheSquidGirls on PSN.
Yes, I do have a PSN account, but I probably won't be on much for another week or two tho. I'll make an announcement when I'll be available online for free play.
Just finished it, very in depth and well put together. I would have liked to see more on assists, what you think are the best for Chris and what to use as Chris. Other than that it was superb.
The assists I showcased were the ones I thought were most important to Chris: or beams and anti-air. If you can't get either, I'd use whatever assists you can to extend his combos or give him some advantage in neutral... so something like Haggar lariat, Sentinel drones, Dr. Strange Eye of Agomotto. His best assists is probably machine gun. I use landmine, and I've seen others make really good use out of boulder punch... so it really depends on your needs I guess.
Really cool stuff. Learned a bit, especially regarding the hitboxes of f.H and s.H and flamethrower recovery. Just to elaborate on some more stuff: - j.L is good for setting up tick throws when recovering from the air. - Flamethrower creates a constant stream of durability. It will beat a lot of things, but it loses to fast projectiles because the flamethrower does not wither the durability of fast projectiles quickly enough before it reaches Chris. I think it's 1 durability per hit on the flamethrower, and it goes for 25 hits. - M. grenade is situational, but it is the best bomb in match-ups where H grenade and L grenade are not as useful. It's the fastest bomb and it's good for trades. Also it's better for incoming than H grenade mostly (unless you intend to cross up), since if they block the incoming and the H grenade detonates, they can spam pushblock to force you out.
Yea, I saw your Air Light videos today, and you definitely get more use out of it than I. I probably could've have researched it more. Regarding flamethrower - I looked into it a bit more and I think it works like a conventional beam... where it gets a certain amount of durability over time. It makes sense because if something with a lot of durability hits flamethrower, it will break it (the flame animation will still be visible, but ceases to do any damage).
This is a really really well done guide. You are one of the umvc3 youtubers that have inspired me to actually start charing my marvel knowledge. Very well done.
Holy hell this video makes me want to play Chris. I wonder if you will do one for Magneto! It's amazing, and I've been trying to learn magneto and his BnB timings quite a bit. No one ever does a good video for it though. Great work! Hope to see more!
This was great, I've been using Chris since vanilla and I've sorta hit a road block when facing rushdown. Also nice to see Chris has some incoming cross under ability gonna put that to good use.
chris player checking in. Really enjoyed the vid and watched every second. I tell people that prone is underused but you also showed me some additions.
Most of the big Chris players will use prone pretty sparingly. I remember watching one match in particular where Senor Taxi stopped going into prone because of getting hit by a single Gimlet punish... even after the hawkeye player had no more meter to do another. It's a different kind of attitude you have to acquire, so you sometimes have to fight to remember to prone.
Thank you for the short plink tutorial. I've been using LM trigger and pressing H at the same time which worked 20% of the time. Using L is much more consistent.
Nice tutorial man. Its nice to see fellow chris players putting out content like this. Ots also kind of weird to say it but I feel like the superjump back extension is harder hit cause of that forward dash but hey that's just me. And the l and m grenades can be used to guard break although its a 50/50 if it works
Yea, I'm exactly in the same boat as you. I hate that forward dash. It might just be an online thing, but that's generally the part of a combo I mess up the most.
Great video with some great editing. There is a lot of good stuff for people who want to learn Chris. I've been using him since Vanilla with no end in sight. I finally have a solid team with Chris with characters I like. I mainly use Chris, Trish, Dante. Jam Session is arguably Chris' best assist. And peekaboo is pretty good for incoming mixups. Also, Chris' pistol gun shots can knock enemies into her trap for a full combo. The other team is Chris, Dante, Hawkeye, as I feel this team has fewer bad matchups. But two things I wanted to mention: For Chris' full screen or 3/4 confirms, Chris can use Spencer' grapple assist to get a full combo off a magnum. With another assist, the damage can be insane. Also, how come you didn't use Chris' other BnB? Basic ground series, after wallbounce magnum, launcher, air MMHS, j. magnum, flamethrower, sweep combo. Its easier than the mine relaunch and I believe it does similar or better damage. But good stuff.
Fuck google. I've spent DAYS looking for a Chris guide online. Only after I gave up do I find this gem on complete accident. Thank you for making this exist.
Definitely work on it. Plink dashing helps sooo much against characters that like to attack from the air... getting in and out of those fireball or dive-kick lanes quickly is hella useful.
Darchon25 Hey man, I'm having a really tough time with the launch, to special, to the air magnum/machine gun OTG, specifically at 40:42. I can't seem to get the input right. Do you have any advice for the air gun OTG?
Luis Breyer Whoops, late reply. But landing the OTG magnum in that spot is a lot easier if you have the right spacing. It will take some practice in order to get the feel down, because the timing will vary depending on that spacing. Keep in mind that landing the magnum gets more and more difficult to time the closer Chris is to the corner... which is why I sometimes jump backwards off the launch in order to get that spacing.
This is a great guide! Makes me want to use Chris more. I don't know if it will be any help but in the corner off of Sweep Hyper you can Snap back. I don't really see a lot of use for it...but it's there ^^.
Kinda sad I'm only in the video when I effed up the magnum :( but I enjoyed the video very much sir. The flame thrower info with the early ending being safe and canceling into prone is especially interesting.
That's my fault. Of the public footage I used for "screw ups," I meant to also have footage of the same player doing something worth noting as well but because of time constraints, I had to cut entire sections and trim down a lot of the footage I meant to have in the guide. Long story short, there's a lot more footage of players I wanted to have in there, but couldn't.
Ah, yea one other person asked me the very same question. If I do a Magneto guide, it probably won't be for a while. I gotta catch up with my normal content before I go into another huge project like a tutorial.
Hey man, you're probably not gonna respond, but I'm having trouble when doing the fullscreen magnum confirm. After doing the Forward+M I can't get a QFC input because it registers as a DP. Any tips?
After you do the forward M, let go of all your input, then do the Magnum. The same thing would happen to me when I would try to cheat my input and go into QCF + H too quickly. Hopefully that helps.
@@Darchon25 damn you actually responded! Thanks man, im pretty new to the game and i was just thinking of picking up your team. Thanks for the help and great video :)
+Chris Redd Sometimes it just happens accidentally, other times it will happen in neutral if opponents try to jump over it and get knocked out of the air with the second grenade. If you wanna do it in combos though, it gets a little tricky. First off, the one setup I know only works on certain characters (like firebrand) in the corner, and requires a shoryuken assist. A basic setup would be to L, M, H, forward H + shoryuken assist, launch, tiger knee grenade hyper. If you do it right, the last grenade that hits will be a hard knockdown and you can OTG magnum off it. Give it a shot and let me know if it works for you.
Keep in mind that you can only chain flamethrower with launcher on hit or block... but here's the entire breakdown. As I'm holding down back on my d-pad, I'll press and hold down the Heavy button with the right side of my thumb. After the 25th hit of the flamethrower, I'll roll the same thumb that's holding down the Heavy button towards the Special button and press it without letting go of heavy. Then I simply let go of both buttons and super jump, and that's it.
I thought you did very well in my opinion you could have went in more depth about chris boulder punch mix ups but other than that it was well detailed to the awkward hit box of some of his attack
I actually had an entire section devoted to corner mixups with Chris. GC Yoshi and Senor Taxi both have tremendous corner setups, so I had plenty of footage to use. But like with most of the chapters, I had to cut a lot of things due to time constraints.
Awesome guide. What do you think about Chris/Deadpool? Once I saw "they can't duck gunfire assist" I immediately thought "holy crap, just call assist and yolo quick work with Deadpool for safe rushdown". I don't have access to the lab right now, but I think Quick Work should also let me get full combos off of air d.H. Sorry if this is asking a lot, but do you know if that works, and do you know if it gives Chris any extra damage on his combos?
Personally, I'd probably have Chris on point on a Chris/Deadpool shell team, but Quick Work into Chris assist really does mesh nicely with Deadpool. He gets that initial safe, fullscreen low, then a really nice mixup while the opponent is in blockstun from the machine gun. As for your last question, I'm not really sure exactly what you're asking... could you possibly go into more detail of what you mean?
You were talking in your vid about calling assist and doing either forwardM on the ground or air downH, and converting off the quick gunshot into a full combo. Well, I got to test it last night and it works, it may not cover horizontal space like disruptor, but quick work goes out to nearly the maximum range of those command normals. So...yeah. I gotta learn Chris, this team's sounding good.
Hmmm, I can't really think of any special tech with Chris/Joe or Chris/Ammy. Both of their assists are pretty standard in terms of combo extensions. I've always considered Dante as a VERY close second to Spencer when it comes to being a BFF to Chris. The damage output with Chris/ Spencer is significantly higher, but you'll have a much better neutral game running Jam Session assist with Chris on point tho. TACing from Chris to Joe could be pretty decent. Not as good as someone with an infinite, but still useful. My only real gripe is your post-chris damage might not be all that great. The DHCs you'll have won't be anything special (you might get a little over 900k off two bars (not that great for a combo started by Chris).
It could have actually been much, MUCH longer. I had to really cut down a lot of parts. I think I had enough footage for a 5-hour long tutorial, but that obviously would've been way too long.
I used the Nova DHC glitch, and since I last tried (about a week ago) it's still working as it always has. Max and Lythero both have a pretty good breakdown of how to do it on their channels.
@chris collins I dunno why it's not letting me reply to your question, hopefully you get a chance to see this. I think that sounds like a pretty legit team. Chris and Spencer are pretty much BFFs and can get ridiculous damage together; and Arthur is a solid anchor. Both assists feel like they would do pretty well to extent Chris combos as well.

IM USING IT :) The Ultimate Chris Guide for UMvC3 - Strategy, Frame Data, Setups, Tips, and How-To's
Well, there's myself, LLND, Bum, TA Predator, Senor Taxi, Brunowizard, and GCyoshi to start. You can also check out needlecrash, oooobey, and Itz Just NANO as well... a few UA-camrs that have plenty of Chris content on their channels.
Not even close. The Morrigan guide was way too slow because the entire thing was off script. There were times where I would spend like 5 minutes talking about one piece of technology. When I watch it now, it aggravates me. The Chris guide on the other hand moves much quicker, so there's a lot more information in any given minute.
exelente tutorial hermano me va a servir para ganarle a unos compadres.. has otro pero de morrigan!!! :) Exelent tutorial bro it will help me to win some guys... did u hace another at sames at this but with Morrigan!?
Darchon25 I need a new chris team my team is chris/taskmaster/spencer. I was thinking off chris/dormammu/spencer any help would be good thanks. also u have got a +1 subscriber and a like good stuff man
Ah, thanks a lot dude. Also, I don't think I've ever seen anyone run Chris and Dorm together. Most people would probably run Chris then Spencer then throw in some sort of anchor, but your team seems to built for high damage through DHCs. From the little experience I have doing combo videos, I can pretty safely say that Dorm has a pretty frustrating set of assists to work with as a point Chris... they just don't seem to mesh well with him. You CAN however do TAC infinites running that specific team, it might be something worth looking into.
hehe ok but through some hours of looking for a character my team is chris/spencer/magneto it works a lot and I got some knowledge from the guide so cheers man. I just needed someone else with my chris and spencer who im good with now I have the character :)
I think you can find it in a playlist called''marvel'' in my profile ... I just have Chris related stuff so it can help ... there are FT10 matches, Chris Solo 950k combos etc.
Old tutorial but pretty good and funny "if your opponent wildly dashes towards you and does the luckiest duck you're free."

Thanks a lot. It sounds crazy that I could actually inspire someone else. I do appreciate it though.
Damn dude you went all out thanks for the guide. I wish someone did this for Dante
I've just watched the whole thing... outstanding, seriously, so detailed and well edited. Great job dude ;)

Thanks a lot. I was actually hoping nobody would realize that I was sick during some of the recording for the audio >____
This was great, I've been using Chris since vanilla and I've sorta hit a road block when facing rushdown. Also nice to see Chris has some incoming cross under ability gonna put that to good use.

No problem, no problem.
How do you change the order of the grenades with his Grenade Launcher super? I'm talking about the part at 21:00
Nice Guide Man. I been trying to update my Chris skills and you helped me out a lot
NP dude, glad I could help.

Amazing guide. Great work.
Thanks, I appreciate it.
Very informative Darchon. I personally use Taskmaster for Vertical Arrows as an assist. BTW, we gotta get some sets in soon lol.
I've gotten on twice so far this week, but I don't think you were online. If I see you, I'll invite you for some matches.
Good stuff. Hawkeye assist is my jam.
I love the fact that it's a soft knockdown. It's so good for Chris.
this has taught me so much!! cheers mate
Glad I could help

does thor's mighty spark make a good beam assist for chris?

Well, I got to test it last night and it works, it may not cover horizontal space like disruptor, but quick work goes out to nearly the maximum range of those command normals.
So...yeah. I gotta learn Chris, this team's sounding good.
chris/ viewtiful joe/ dante or amaterasu; does it have potential?
Darchon25 Hmm thanks for the tips, I'll try Chris and Spencer; I only need a decent anchor now. Maybe Sentinel because of the assist
48 minute tutorial
holy shiiiit
you've really outdone yourself lol
It could have actually been much, MUCH longer. I had to really cut down a lot of parts. I think I had enough footage for a 5-hour long tutorial, but that obviously would've been way too long.
also how do you do that camera glitch? I thought it was patched?
I used the Nova DHC glitch, and since I last tried (about a week ago) it's still working as it always has. Max and Lythero both have a pretty good breakdown of how to do it on their channels.
Great Video.
@chris collins I dunno why it's not letting me reply to your question, hopefully you get a chance to see this. I think that sounds like a pretty legit team. Chris and Spencer are pretty much BFFs and can get ridiculous damage together; and Arthur is a solid anchor. Both assists feel like they would do pretty well to extent Chris combos as well.

part of me wishes there was a guide this detailed for Hsien-Ko.
Go watch LLND he plays Chris with Hsien-Ko.
key word: Guide.
Synonym: Tutorial, How-to
Great video
Thanks
the flamethrower durability portion made me laugh haha
My original plan was to use every projectile, but that would've went on for like 10 minutes... there's a lot of projectiles in the game, lol.
godlike video

I don't see too many chris redfields in the fgc and if so who uses him???
Well, there's myself, LLND, Bum, TA Predator, Senor Taxi, Brunowizard, and GCyoshi to start. You can also check out needlecrash, oooobey, and Itz Just NANO as well... a few UA-camrs that have plenty of Chris content on their channels.
Darchon25 ok thanks
Nice tutorial

That looked so unnecessary, but it probably was lmfaoo
thanks for the guide :D
Eagle Angelo No problem dude.
awesome
Was your Morrigan guide this detailed....?
Not even close. The Morrigan guide was way too slow because the entire thing was off script. There were times where I would spend like 5 minutes talking about one piece of technology. When I watch it now, it aggravates me. The Chris guide on the other hand moves much quicker, so there's a lot more information in any given minute.
Would you consider one in the future? *_*
Teesh Lallipop Another Morrigan guide? Probably not.
Fuck it, I'm playing Chris.
exelente tutorial hermano me va a servir para ganarle a unos compadres.. has otro pero de morrigan!!! :)
Exelent tutorial bro it will help me to win some guys... did u hace another at sames at this but with Morrigan!?
I do have a morrigan tutorial, but it is fairly old and outdated. The pacing in it is pretty terrible as well. It has basics, but not much else.
If you did one for every character , I might actually pay for it 😂
Nice incoming 13:36 & 13:46
Very nice I recently stole .... I mean adopted Senor taxi's team
So this was good
Flame thrower should be an assist attack
I would heart that very much.
Afrodo98 Oh yeah, that will work for sure.
hehe guns, hooks and ass. and magnetism perfect team loooooooool
OMG , MAN GREAT JOB So much good stuff I was looking for like dealing with other zoners and the uses of Grenade luncher Hyper ... damn >_
you should check out some of the videos of Bruno Wizard , he is an brazilian chris player... he has a video of Magnum confirmation
I've seen a lot of his stuff... I haven't seen the Magnum confirmation video tho. I'll need to check it out.
I think you can find it in a playlist called''marvel'' in my profile ... I just have Chris related stuff so it can help ... there are FT10 matches, Chris Solo 950k combos etc.
