Honestly, I think that metalcore has already run itself dry. At this point most Metalheads actually despise the genre and brand its fans as posers. Metalcore just gets more publicity. I think America will either delve more and more into the "brutal death metal" or do more retro metal like the sword, as Metalheads have became more elites the than ever before
I hope you're right. It seems this deathcore is getting a lot of attention too now. Which to me is just the same shit with something called a "Breakdown" added. Whatever that is.
+Top hat Jones deathcore will stick around for a while, but the whole -"core" subculture has faded. It's only listeners are metal noobs who will discover new bands and never look back; the metal community shuns metalcore and its bands receive as more hate than appreciation. It's not 2002 anymore.
+Lightning6475 I'm not saying it's a rule, listen to what you like! I listen to metalcore sometimes too. However, I am saying that it has already ran itself to the ground, shown by the amount of elitism and anti-metalcore sentiment in the heavy metal community.
Totally wrong, been listening to all kinds of metal since i was two, still listen to Thrash and Brutal Death, but also love Deathcore and (some) Metalcore. If someone wants to enjoy a Parkway Drive song whilst im listening to Aborted or Cattle Decap, then so what, because people are entitled to their own music taste
I think we will go more into progressive metal/djent or technical/prog death metal. Both of them are getting super popular lately. Ive always loved tech death , and i decided to try to delve into djent, and some if it i (guilty pleasure) kind of liked. Your thoughts?
I think that the time of bands has passed. The last awesome metal band who made a breakthrough was Lost Society (they won a contest with all the promotion followed). There's no chance for decent amount of bands (enough to set trends) to make it by themselves. Now I see that everything starts to lie on shoulders of individual instrumentalists, particularly on UA-cam: they write/record/promote songs by themselves, and collaborate with other such 'loners'. But I don't know where it actually goes. That's a very complex topic
What I've heard of metalcore reminds me a lot of crossover/thrash back in the 1980s: most of it is fairly homogeneous and consistent, with very few surprises, and not a lot of evolution. Like crossover/thrash, I suspect it's days as a dominant metal subgenre are limited and approaching over-saturation and burn-out, and you might get a couple stand-out bands who'll survive the genre by virtue of doing it first, doing it better, or doing it a little differently from the majority of bands, but the rest are going to struggle once the genre burns itself out. There might be a metalcore revival some time a generation or two down the road, but it'll be slim pickings after the market cleans itself out. For crossover/thrash, that genre quickly got all but forgotten once the audience for it either melted away and went to grunge, or discovered death or black metal, and began following bands who were experimenting and evolving, and if metal has any future at all, that future too will rest on a new generation of bands that start with a clear artistic vision - a 2020s version of death and black metal - but are willing to experiment and evolve past that vision into a wealth of new ideas in metal. If metalcore follows a similar history to that of crossover/thrash, I think it's likely that metalcore will provide some of the musical DNA for what is to follow, in a similar way that thrash provided some of the foundation for death and black metal, and continues to appear in descendants of those subgenres.
+Blackmetal Werewolf (Blackmetalwerewolf) nice! Death is probably one of my favorite bands of all time, all of their albums are so good! I also enjoy Obscura, a bit of Necrophagist, some Cannibal Corpse, Orbituary, and Between the Buried and Me. Actually, Cannibal Corpse is coming with Abysmal Dawn and Orbituary today to my city, and I won't be able to go :(
+Oscar Rodríguez oh damn I completely forgot about Necrophagist and Obituary! Those bands are awesome too. I know that feeling though, I missed Cannibal Corpse both times they came around my city too D:
Well past you, we can safely say the next big metal trend after metalcore was metalcore inspired "djent". Does anyone know what the current metal trend is? Is it still djent or have we finally moved on?
I couldn't name a single metalcore (deathcore etc.) or a single djent band, but it does seem like you can't step into a metal forum anywhere and not get hit with a brick thrown by the rabid ?-core, djent, and modern prog-metal subgenre fanbases. I've tried listening to a little of all of these, but I don't really get them, and from what I've seen of the reactions of complete outsiders to metal, complete newbies to metal aren't getting these subgenres either. Outsiders - music fans who grew up on urban and rap music - seem to get classic metal, they seem to get gothic metal, they seem to get doom metal - but, they don't get djent, they don't get prog, they don't get ?-core, and, by and large, they don't get the growling, squealing, screeching, gurgling, and so on from the extreme metal of the last 25 years.... For metal to survive beyond the current generation of fans, it's got to attract new fans. If there's a future for metal, it has to be something that new fans are going to be able to find an inroad with, the way that rock fans followed hard rock into metal when I was a toddler, and pop fans followed hair metal onto thrash when I was in high school, and later generations of music fans followed Korn or Rage Against the Machine or "nu-metal" and such onto all these "post-core" whatever subgenres that serve as the flagships of American metal today. Based on what I've seen in the past, the future of metal (at least in the United States) would be something accessible to working-class people, something that sounds familiar but different from the generic dance music du-jour, something that feels uncontrived and back-to-basics, something with some energy and even an occasional sense of humor.... I'm not sure what's out there that fits that description at the moment, but if someone were to put some or all of those things together and court an audience untapped by metal and disenchanted with dance music and disenchanted with the state of whatever alternative is available to them, then that musician or band would be right there on the ground floor of the next big thing. (My money on a future audience for the future of American metal might be on the growing Latin-American demographic who probably match as well as anyone the traditionally alienated working-class youth that served as the meat-and-potatoes of metal audiences in previous generations, or possibly on country/western fans who must surely be getting disgusted at some point by the watered-down pop-slop that has been passing for country/western the last 15 or 20 years....)
what i hope to see is that more bands like Ghost/Ghost B.C., for example, that are inspired by traditional heavy metal/hard rock start to get bigger and i dont want metalcore to get even bigger then it already is but here in europe it isnt as big as in america
Yeah, we totally need more bands with a more traditional metal sound. Most newer bands seem to be going into death, black or power metal. I'd love to see more bands like Judas Priest and Saxon.
Dude, I know this is an older post but I've been checking out your stuff and I came across this one. I couldn't agree more. Off course you have a greater insight of the North American sceene. I am from Portugal, and ever since 2005 we've been having an increase of the core bands. Eventually they tire themselves out and just fade away. But crowds seem to really appreciate them, especially grindcore stuff. I play in a Melodic Death Metal band, we get some heavy and folk influences and such, so the long hair and Mjolnir thing is more "my sceene". I don't know if you get this impression but, Metalcore really reminds of the 90's MTV punk sceene. All those bands wearing short sleeve buttoned up shirts, shorts, sneakers and featuring people with skateboards on their videos. Eventually they got into metal and Nu Metal came along, and now it feels like it went to the metalcore side. I can't help but to notice similarities. What do you think of this?
The newer thrash bands are pretty sick, as well as the stoner metal like Red Fang and the Sword. I'd be so happy if those types of bands got bigger in the U.S. I love a lot of the Relapse Records bands. They have lots of thrash and stoner metal as well as other bands.
Reminds me of me and my friends saying the whole poppy metal thing is kinda like glam, and how we were about to get rid of that because we wrote much rawer music. Nowadays I like the idea of accessible stuff as well, but not how oversaturated and empty it is now. I'm working on projects in both styles and trying to make it proper again.
I have some friends of mine (in Europe), a band that plays a combination of thrash metal and folk, shortly - TROLK. My prediction is that TROLK might revolutionize the metal genre one day and eventually become a new branch in european heavy metal)
+Miguel Fernandez Millan This mixing of djent and progressive metal really confuses me. How do people lob these into the same category. Do bands like Enslaved or Mastodon sound like Meshuggah? No.
I think it's cause a lot of Djent bands insert a lot of proggy influences in terms of their leads and time signatures. So people who only know what's metal from the post-2000s genres might confuse that with Progressive Metal. But it would be an interesting take to see +BlackMetal Werewolf do a video on Djent. I don't know much about Djent but somehow I respect the fact that out there, there are a bunch of kids trying to create their own subculture.
There are a lot of amazing bands coming out. I don't think anything can stop people making music, especially not metal as the community is so passionate. I could see pop dying out as a lot of it is autotuned and most of the fans arent as devoted and will rather download the music than go to a record store and buy a CD or record. The Hong Kong metal scene is really growing and fast which means we get a lot more international bands coming here (like Behemoth in October). Japan metal scene is huge also from what I remember when I used to stay there. Not sure about anywhere else in Asia, I've heard Jakarta, Indonesia has a massive strong scene.
I'm from Poland and I'm looking for new metal bands in my country. I think there is a lot of new and pretty good bands, but most of people don't know them because they prefer mainstream. So I think heavy music is still nice, but if we stop support young artists this music can slowly disappear.
The metal scene down here in Australia is really good. Bands like NeObliviscaris and Hadal Maw are doing some interesting stuff and the future of metal here seems to look bright.
Werewolf,I'd love to have your opinion on this band Bachman Turner Overdrive Are they a precursor for metal? Check these videos out.. Let it ride ,Takin' care of business ,Roll on down the highway & Sledgehammer
I feel like in the future in atleast north American metal there's gonna be shot more bands like the sword who are kinda going back to metal roots with a retro style
I hope your prediction for European metal is true, I'm all for the power metal scene, honestly a lot of them were how I was introduced to the music as a little kid. But to be honest, I am not sure how the genre still has as much sway as it currently does because its getting to be old and not as much originality to it as it used to. I would love to see something new and extreme come out of it!!
I agree with the metalcore thing in America, it also happens in Europe a lot (I know that, I live there) but I think that in Europe the powermetal scene doesn't grow that fast that it is becoming the main metal genre. I also listen to a lot of new black metal bands, for instance from The Netherlands or Italy. I'm interested in what the festivals/concerts are going to do, I'm only 15 years old so.. When I'm around 18 I can go to way more shows then I do now ;)
I like some "metal core" but I've noticed a lot of "metalcore" bands end up getting more like other types of metal almost like it's simply made up of bands who are still trying to develop a sound as opposed to whatever I would love to see it evolve into something a lot better and hopefully the fact that they are out there so early dosnt negatively influence them
I'm a musician from Louisiana who's music was considered "Power Metal" because I do love a lot of musical elements of that genre. However, I was also influenced by the American classic rock, heavy metal, thrash metal, and elements of other music (like jazz for example). So maybe my version of 'Power Metal' may sound totally different from the traditional EU bands but we can only see.
Mandilore. maybe your type of power metal is more eclectic than what is going on in europe .i happen to be a fan of symphonic power metal .melo power metal as well.
You were right with Metal going to what it US dot sound like with one hand that has been talked about recently and that's Ghost. But I think we are going to see more Progressive music mixed with the electronic element.
McClain, I feel that Power metal can be traced back to three British Invasion bands.. Those three British invasion bands are : Dave Clark Five, The Animals & The Moody Blues...
There's a few new bands from the new wave of traditional heavy metal like Skull Fist, White Wizzard, and Enforcer. Eventually I'll be around too haha. Check them all out, incredible bands!
I'm a fan of Skull Fist, checking out White Wizzard and Enforcer now. It's quite similar, thanks for the recommendation. Stallion from Germany is a similar sound too, still quite new. I like these bands that are kind of a throw back to the NWOBHM era, with a more modern feel.
One problem with the tons of European power metal bands is that 90% of them seem to model their sound after Helloween. Helloween is a great band, but it gets kind of boring when an entire music scene is trying to copy them.
I think new sub-genres will arise in answer to metalcore. Think of how thrash arose to counter glam metal in the 80`s. I think there will be an essential rebirth of metal, where all the goods aspects of metal are combined to form an unstoppable movement which will dominate the metal scene.
About North America (NA).. You're right about mkor, and my opinion on why it's so spread out there is because it's an "extreme version of pop". But, on the other hand, another thing about NA is agression. Sure, metal is a more agressive genre than others, but look what has NA produced throughout history: Pantera, Metallica, Slayer, Slipknot, Cannibal Corpse, etc. Don't get me wrong, but I think that Europe as a continent is more "melodic", whereas NA is more "agressive"
I think that some of the more extreme metal may drift off into other genres of metal.... trad metal & Power metal still will be aorund in both maerica & europe.. but, what could happen is that folk metal may die....
werewolf, Canada is a part of North America.. I think that Power Metal will become more eclectic in lyrical themes Metal also will make a come back... Michael Bormann is a great metal singer He has one hell of a voice!
New power metal is too happy sounding for me. Bands like Savatage were kinda power metal. Original Power Metal was like the American version of NWOBHM and all the music authorities are saying that that style is coming back. Traditional metal, like you said. The good old Iron Maiden, Priest fused together type bands are coming back. Which is good for me cause that's what I wanna do with my band. Operatic vocals but also gravelly almost to the point of screaming. Pantera's "Power Metal" is a good example of this. I'm kinda digressing here, but yeah. All the music authorities are saying NWOBHM is coming back.
What do you mean by modern power metal? Sabaton, Sonata Arctica, Dreamtale and stuff like that? I personally like those but I prefer the classics like Savatage (my favourite band), Blind Guardian, Helloween etc.
Metalcore has probably run itself dry already. Here in Central PA, it's pretty split between people who are rabidly death thrash and/or melodic death metal, or are trying to get gigs as a metalcore band, but the metalcore scene here which was pretty hearty even just a year or two ago, is slowly being replaced by a tighter sound than 'core offers with more lower range and growling vocal, and some of it is the 'core guys getting bored or just branching out. If I had to give some bands as a reference, I'd say take The Melvins and mix them with Sleep, then make them worship the first 2-3 LoG albums. I might just be being optimistic in the hopes that this 'core cloud passes from my state, but that's the direction I'm been hearing over the past 6 or 7 months. The death thrash and MDM guys are in their own little world just doing their shit but there's no telling if anything wild will come out of the up and comers. There's been a small blues resurgence, used to be huge around here, maybe that'll start something up, get people returning to metal's roots. We shall see.
I predict within twenty years, when all of the classic metal bands like Iron Maiden, Metallica, and Judas Priest retire or die out. CD's will meet their demise. I personally love CD's, I love the album art and that it is both physical as well as digital. I have been noticing that many newer bands have been using less hand made album covers, and have just been using photos that have been photoshopped. For example Between the Buried and ME's album Coma Ecliptic is just a photograph of a guy laying in a desert. The whole reason many people buy physical products is because they like to display them as a piece of artwork. The only bands that really have cool artwork anymore are bands that are sort of throwbacks to the old days like The Sword and Ghost. There will also be less and less bands that are original. Many "modern" bands such as Avenged Sevenfold or Papa Roach are just taking riffs from classic bands and repurposing them. It's cool when they can do something new with it, but I don't think there are any more ways to play a palm muted E5 chord.
I vote for a return to a gothic/doom metal style. Pick up where Type O Negative and the like left off. I know bands like Lacuna Coil and Moonspell still carry the torch for that genre but we need a revitalization in that area.
Personally I think within the next 10 years like in the 2020s we will see a new genre of metal . I believe within that time Metal is going to have a lot of new genres
Actually, I think metal is actually becoming more "techie". More bands like Fallujah, the Faceless or rising Djent bands like Tesseract are coming out and getting a decent following. I think musicians are really going to try to push the boundaries of tech metal and will experiment with even crazier rhythms and time signatures. But you also need to look at this weird "mainstream metal" bands like Popevil which are pretty much pop rock songs with breakdowns. Kids seem to love them. It's kind of like the next pop punk. Normal kids trying to capitalize on a real outsider movement trying to look edgy and cater to teenagers who don't like metal but still want to be edgy and cool. Kind of sad actually...
Not anymore, I think the extremity of metal peaked late 90 early 2000s and now it's pretty much the same but louder due to high sound compression, loudness war all that bullshit, I really dont't think that anything new will be invented
Yeah I don't really think "heavier" can really be a thing anymore.. So many people have so many different interpretations on what makes something heavy anyway. Is it how fast, loud, distorted and angry it can get? Is it how slow, sad and depressing it can get? There's really no proper answer. Like, I definitely feel the most emotion, dread and heavy atmosphere with stuff like black metal, depressive suicidal black metal and Funeral Doom. To me those genres tend to feel the most "heavy" and hold the most weight when it comes to atmosphere and sheer feel/emotion. but others would consider death metal as the Heaviest because of the usual gutteral growls, lyrics about killing people, faster more aggressive riffs and stuff. But then grindcore is probably even more "heavy" than death with its hectic, random, crazy, unrefined nature... Some people would call that heavier and others would call it noise.. 🤷♂️ A true "Heaviest" doesn't really exist. But at the end of the day it's all great! 😎 I don't care what's the Heaviest. I just love metal, almost every genre.
Shit 2 years later and not much has really changed, Djent seen a rise but stagnated quick. In the brutal death scene Slamcore rose up but isn't really new enough to reboost metal culturally. Guitar based music has been on a major decline commercially and culturally for the past decade atleast here in the States. Rap/Trap/and Pop music unfortunately has been dominating the music scene. So as we move into the Digital Age popular music has been reflecting it with more and more digital sounding music. While Metal and Rock being from the Industrial Age seemed to represent the sounds of industry factories, shops, construction sites, work plants etc...maybe metal has to adjust to the digital age to survive.
In my opinion, I think there are tons of bands nowadays that kick ass but then there are also many on the flip side who are so mediocre and boring but are worshipped by this newer generation. Being apart of this generation, I feel as if there is a huge rift between chiseled metal veterans who grew up on legends and kids who are listening to this new era of bands which sound either very soft and emotional or like this wanna be tough guy bullshit. There are of course exceptions but nonetheless most newer popular metal bands are very generic. Being a metalhead myself, I have went out of my way for years searching and analyzing all types of sub genres within metal to see what is heavy to me and what just sounds mechanical or trendy. Personally, my favorite bands now are those which incorporate tons of aspects of different bands that make a band "heavy." Everyone, of course, has a different definition of what heavy is but for me it's something I can't fully describe. The best way I could put it is that there are parts of songs that I can bang my head like a motherfucker but it still has that rhythmic groove and extra kick in the balls. Some of my favorite bands are Goatwhore, Revocation, Havok, Skeletonwitch, Condition Critical, Vektor, Warbeast, Mastema, Nylithia, Laceration, and Eliminator just to name a few. With these bands, they're thrash (or some form thereof)and I can mosh around like a maniac but they still bring something new and fresh to the genre rather than having the same recycled riffs over and over again.
Thanks for the list there, I have similar taste, quite america/canada focused though. Do you listen to any newer stuff coming out of Europe? eg Pripjat, Gama Bomb, Dust Bolt, Rezet, Mutant, Ultra-Violence I keep hearing about Revocation, I'll have to check them out.
I personally love the sub genre nü metal because of bands like slipknot, korn (there earlier albums because dubstep sucks and thats what they eventually went to) and sytem of a down as well as others but i love thrash and black metal
And now for my prediction of the genre of metal that wil be coming out of northern europe. Viking metal will continue.. but it will morph in to toher sub genres.. Viking power metal ,.. there still will be metal in europe....
Hey. I know this video is old. Power metal isnt that popular in Europe. Sure, in Scandinavia, and partly Germany it is definitely one of the most popular genres, mainly because it draws from European folklore. The point is that theres British New Wave of Heavy Metal, and Industrial is very popular in Germany.
Wolfo, what makes you say that? Not all of the European power metal is fantasy based.. Helloween for example is very eclectic with their lyrical themes.. Kamelot started with the arthurian myth cycle ..but they drifted away from it
Ghost might be a look at the future of metal. I think extremity in metal reached a point where It's really hard to sell, so a band like ghost that's making music that can be appreciated by mainstream audiences and metal heads might just be what the future of metal will look like. Or maybe they're just an over hyped gimmick.
As a guy who is really into prog and experimental rock I have to say that Ghost is more akin to that than metal, but I've only heard their latest album and some of their music videos. I think the future of metal is in thrash metal and trad/power stuff.
I totally agree with your opinion about the North American metal scene, and the fact that it is overflown by metalcore bands. I've had to force myself through some metalcore songs to maybe understand and try to appreciate it a bit more, but I have failed. It just feels pointless. But yet again I think pointlessness is kind of the point (pun intended). But anyways don't forget that America still is the country producing the best death metal. Yes its true that bands like Cannibal Corpse, Obituary, Death and all the other classics are hard to follow, but I still hope that death will re-rise again in America (I feel like melo-death is starting to be liked more and more). As for Europe, the past couple of years have been great for extreme metal in Europe. Poland is producing some of the best black metal I've heard in many years (Mgla, Batushka, Behemoth), France as well (Deathspell Omega, Gojira, Alcest), Norway never stops producing black metal, Sweden on the other hand is still producing great death metal (Amon Amarth, At the Gates, Opeth, Messugah). Abbath making music again (his corpse paint is terrible), Ihsahn as well. But also countries like Greece, Austria, England also produce great metal. But if there is one genre I feel is rising again in Europe it is Black Metal. I think it is being refined. If you read the lyrics from modern bands like Mgla and Deathspell Omega, they are very philosophical compared to the "true Norwegian Black Metal" (did I forget to mention Taake who is kicking it old school). Also they finally understood that you don't need to record trough a headset speaker to make a statement, and are starting to produce in high quality. And the riffing is becoming more complicated (compared to the two string Darkthrone riffs). I don't really see a big rise in power-metal, but then again I'm not too much into it and don't follow it as much. Cool channel btw! :D
the fleshgod apocalpse is a fucking great heavy metal band. listen to this album : agony: so fucking good hey guys listen to this band. its fuckin glourious metal. its basicly a mixure of behemoth and dimmu borgir. best shit ever
Black Metal Werewolf..What I've been sensing with power metal is that it's been splitting off into different branches.,such as symphonic, gothic, mythological( power metal with mythological themes) pagan power metal, wiccan etc... Power metal ( like trad metal) won't die..but,it will branch out... trad metal will always be alive !
North American Metal /Power Metal will find inspiration from other musical genres... Such as early rock & roll, Country, Acid Rock etc The Euro Metal scene will combine with Power Metal & create the Traditional Power Metal subgenre Symphonic Metal will combine with Power Metal ..the bridge with be Symphonic Power Metal There still will be Metal ,But countries such as India , Mongolia, Tibet etc will produce new sounds and become well known....
I think deathspell omega and the other French black metal bands of there technical complex style will create a new genre of metal the most brutal AND. technical music you ever seen. And they will call the!selves "oblivion metal" or something similar.
Well I just got to say that I don't listen to metalcore or deathcore stuff no more. Well I do still listen too ring of Saturn. Which is an technical deathcore band and I just really enjoy them. But I normally listen to death metal and brutal death metal and technical death metal and thrash metal and groove metal and deathgrind and goregrind and power metal and folks metal and folks rock and heavy metal and punk rock and hard rock and horror punk and black metal and symphony black metal and grindcore and gothic rock and gothic metal and that's all I pretty much listen too now a days
Metalcore has been on its way out. Besides Avenged Sevenfold and Bullet For My Valentine most of the big Metalcore bands play the same venues as the big Metal bands.
horrorfan 1996 it may happen..if there's country metal..then appalacian metal can happen..one metal genre that will never happen will be. bluegrass metal.
Hopefully in like 10 years once thrash bands like Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Testament, Exodus, etc die off (sounds bad, but they are around their 50's) and they aren't going to be going on tour and making an album every year or so when they are 90! So hopefully a lot of the fans make their own bands and bring back 80's thrash metal! I watched part of an interview with Tom Araya and he said that Repentless may have been Slayer's last album! 😭
International Izzie dave mustaine is a year and a few weeks older than i am..the gullable mouth that's always running is pushing 56!.. lars ulrich is either my age or a little younger..so these are on their 50s. but they rock as hard as today's kids do
International Izzie araya mau have said it .but not have meant it..looks at scorpions , they"retired"from music back in early-mid2000s, but after running out of money...they did something that i love calling"pulling a who" they came back out of retirement. michael weikath said in a interview that i read..helloween will be going on( writing, recording lps&touring) until they drop dead on stage.
Metalcore won't die, it'll just crap out as a cultural movement. Then something is going to replace it like "post-metalcore" because that seems to happen when ever movement gets named. I mean punk got called post-punk, grunge got called post-grunge, and black metal after Norwegian black metal is called "post black metal" or at least certain parts of it, see where I'm going with this? Classic, death, thrash, black, doom will stay alive primarily because of one reason. Cult following.
A lot of Metalcore bands evolved into Deathcore and Djent. Then they blend Djent and Deathcore. Metalcore has also incorporated a lot of proggy influences too.
Dude there are uninspired and unoriginal bands in every scene. There are some metalcore bands out there that write the most innovative metal these days. Listen to August Burns Red or Architects
I think after metalcore runs itself into the ground, Djent will take over. I fucking hate djent but I think that soon in North America, all we're gonna have is Djent.... but in European culture I think that people are gonna try to be so brutal that eventually nobody is going to really take it seriously anymore and the whole brutal thing is gonna get stale so we're gonna have to go back to the more traditional heavy metal, the old ways.
Brazilian metal is dying, there are still amazing new bands, but the biggest part of metalheads just dont go to the small concerts anymore and this is killing the new ones, promoters prefer make cover bands concerts because they are the only way where they can make money. And even the great bands like angra..sepultura are having really small public, thas really sad :/
Don't worry aboutthe future of metal,MacLean... what has being going on since the 80s/90 's will keep going... A lot of combining will happen though.... Such as traditional power metal ( which is the combinaiton of trad metal& power metal), metal will be around.... what will die off is the core bullshit... even the technical metal, death & the like... Metal will be fine in the future.
BMW, there are the subgenres of power metal.. such as symphonic power& gothic power.. I see power metal branching out into other combinations,as PM will survve... I see the same thign happening wth Trad metal.. both will stay alive in both america & europe.... black metal may "burn " itself out.. the gimmicky satanic blakc metal will disappear ,but deal with life type balck metal will be around..on the whole metal wil be alive & kickin ' for years!
Love your videos but can I just say that montionless in white and black vail brides are two bands that are killing any and all forms of metal, name any genre and these spawns of nothing are the reason why, I could mention other horrible bands but I know i'm already going to catch flack from the fans of these bands but o well do it anyway, avenged sevendfold (get a new sound all your songs sound the same) bullet for my valentine (i wanna be metal but i don't have the voice to really scream just half attempt it) and with that last point goes the same with my chemical romance, death cab for cutie and other shit bands with bad names that call themselves metal
Honestly, I think that metalcore has already run itself dry. At this point most Metalheads actually despise the genre and brand its fans as posers. Metalcore just gets more publicity. +Ben Weissman Weird because I discovered a lot of new heavy, thrash etc bands yet I still listen to metal core and death core bands
+Lightning6475 I'm not saying it's a rule, listen to what you like! I listen to metalcore sometimes too. However, I am saying that it has already ran itself to the ground, shown by the amount of elitism and anti-metalcore sentiment in the heavy metal community.

If someone wants to enjoy a Parkway Drive song whilst im listening to Aborted or Cattle Decap, then so what, because people are entitled to their own music taste
I find it scary how I started watching you like 3 days ago and you had 14 thousand subs and you now have 23. Congrats
Metal will never die (at least in my heart). As long as pop music exists, there will always be heavy music to contrast it.
Have you heard of the Faceless? They're a technical death metal band that are really good both in technicality and song writting
I do like Metalcore but I'm not gonna lie it will probably die with this generation.
the bands tend to sound the same.
Black Conservative Metalhead the same thing happens in every genre of rock music..especially pop
Who are your favorite death metal/technical death metal bands? :D
My favourite Death Metal bands are probably Dethklok, Cannibal Corpse, Wolfheart, Death and Morbid Angel
+Blackmetal Werewolf (Blackmetalwerewolf) yeah, it sucks, would've been my first time in an actual pit
Necrophagist for life!!! Love your channel, so informative \m/ and many oldschool band names mentioned \m/
Listen to Orchid, or Lucifer.
+Raymond “Dnomyar96” Benjamins you're missing out big time
The -core bands have been dominating since the early 00s. It seems to have a stable fan base unfortunately...
What do you think of this?
eu acho que ele nao irá te responder, para ser sincero :/
You should do a video on your thoughts about progressive metal/djent
you know it's not the same, right?
A FB friend of mine told me that Djent is a subgenre of progressive metal
I'd definitely love to see Doom Metal make a rise in popularity in the future.
Specially Funeral Doom which is very extreme, underground, atmospheric and unique. It's Black Metal level and people should give it a chance.
Hana, pop already is dead... If they're not devoted fans, then we do they always whine about Justin Beiber being better than metal?
All I know is that I'm going to buy up what I want while its out there. If it does die out my music collection will have to get me through!
I'm from Poland and I'm looking for new metal bands in my country. I think there is a lot of new and pretty good bands, but most of people don't know them because they prefer mainstream. So I think heavy music is still nice, but if we stop support young artists this music can slowly disappear.
+HEAVY MADNESS Link some bands man.
The metal scene down here in Australia is really good. Bands like NeObliviscaris and Hadal Maw are doing some interesting stuff and the future of metal here seems to look bright.
Werewolf,I'd love to have your opinion on this band
Bachman Turner Overdrive
Are they a precursor for metal?
Check these videos out..
Let it ride ,Takin' care of business ,Roll on down the highway &
Sledgehammer
I feel like in the future in atleast north American metal there's gonna be shot more bands like the sword who are kinda going back to metal roots with a retro style
@Blackemetal Werewolf , Do you know Gojira? A French technical band, excellent guitar work and I think you'll like it (if you don't know it already).
Isn't Gojira a prog metal band?
Mandilore. maybe your type of power metal is more eclectic than what is going on in europe
.i happen to be a fan of symphonic power metal
.melo power metal as well.
What about the new stoner metal scene?
You were right with Metal going to what it US dot sound like with one hand that has been talked about recently and that's Ghost. But I think we are going to see more Progressive music mixed with the electronic element.
Hey, Have you heard of a band called Hyperion ? from sweden really great music in my opinion.
Yep Enforcer sound awesome. It sounds so Maiden, I just wish new Maiden sounded this good
You forgot The Sword!
how about a combination of trad & power metal?
Can this come to fruiition, in the future?
What's your favorite Norwegian black metal bands
Man i totaly love to see your vids....great topics keep up wth good work!
One problem with the tons of European power metal bands is that 90% of them seem to model their sound after Helloween. Helloween is a great band, but it gets kind of boring when an entire music scene is trying to copy them.
BMW, a FB friend of mine said that death metal movement has taken over in the metal community... Is this true?
BMW, what are your favorite power metal bands?
This an interesting topic Metal to me is like the mutant music genre that will never die. Chop off an arm and twenty others grow.
I think new sub-genres will arise in answer to metalcore. Think of how thrash arose to counter glam metal in the 80`s. I think there will be an essential rebirth of metal, where all the goods aspects of metal are combined to form an unstoppable movement which will dominate the metal scene.
i agree i want things to stay the same
About North America (NA)..
Heyy ! Thank you for sharing your opinions with other metalheads like me, I just wonder if you play any instrument ?
Could you do videos on my two favorite subgenres of metal..
Symphonic metal & symphonic power metal
I think that some of the more extreme metal may drift off into other genres of metal.... trad metal & Power metal still will be aorund in both maerica & europe.. but, what could happen is that folk metal may die....
Did you ever listen to Hellyeah?
Damn, what a time capsule this video is
can u explain what u mean by it isnt original when talknig about metalcore?
Future of metal : More alive than ever and yet more dead than ever before.
werewolf, Canada is a part of North America..
I think that Power Metal will become more eclectic in lyrical themes
Metal also will make a come back... Michael Bormann is a great metal singer
He has one hell of a voice!
BMW, I thikthat there will be combinations of metal..such as traditional power metal..
both in America& europe
I really don't want go in a metal concert a be the only one with long hair too, I hope you are right
I vote for a return to a gothic/doom metal style. Pick up where Type O Negative and the like left off. I know bands like Lacuna Coil and Moonspell still carry the torch for that genre but we need a revitalization in that area.
I think these kind of Gothic Metal are the more alternative. Most Gothic Metal is still not in the Mainstream.
Probably Alternative metal is on the rise again. Its likely to become like glam or a grunge like movement in the future. Competing against Metalcore
Personally I think within the next 10 years like in the 2020s we will see a new genre of metal . I believe within that time Metal is going to have a lot of new genres
Arch enemy ( ANGELA era) is the best melodic death metal I've heard in my life . I've never seen anyone to be as heavy and melodic as them .
Kind of sad actually...
does this channel have a tumblr or facebook?
Is it possible to get more extreme though?
+Michael Rosen find every subgenre of death metal
Not anymore, I think the extremity of metal peaked late 90 early 2000s and now it's pretty much the same but louder due to high sound compression, loudness war all that bullshit, I really dont't think that anything new will be invented
***** Ya got brutal death metal, tech death, slam, black death and ofcourse, my favourite: War metal!
+MrAntichrist12 There will always be new stuff invented. It might not always be good or heavy, but there will always be new stuff.
A true "Heaviest" doesn't really exist.
Do you listen to any newer stuff coming out of Europe? eg Pripjat, Gama Bomb, Dust Bolt, Rezet, Mutant, Ultra-Violence
I keep hearing about Revocation, I'll have to check them out.
I personally love the sub genre nü metal because of bands like slipknot, korn (there earlier albums because dubstep sucks and thats what they eventually went to) and sytem of a down as well as others but i love thrash and black metal
Btw two minutes to midnight is my favorite iron maiden song
I think the future of metal is in thrash metal and trad/power stuff.
and (probably the only good thing about elitism) is the more underground fans/bands bring out heavier/faster/louder bands
Power metal ( like trad metal) won't die..but,it will branch out... trad metal will always be alive !
really hoping metal doesn't die out (fingers crossed) just because I feel it has influenced a lot of other musicians
+Cherrelle littler Metal isn't going to die out.
North American Metal /Power Metal will find inspiration from other musical genres... Such as early rock & roll, Country, Acid Rock etc
The Euro Metal scene will combine with Power Metal & create the Traditional Power Metal subgenre Symphonic Metal will combine with Power Metal ..the bridge with be Symphonic Power Metal
There still will be Metal ,But countries such as India , Mongolia, Tibet etc will produce new sounds and become well known....
irecomend you to listen to Chilean metal listen to six magics, delta, benjamin lechuga, alejandro silva and gabriel hidalgo ;)
I think deathspell omega and the other French black metal bands of there technical complex style will create a new genre of metal the most brutal AND. technical music you ever seen. And they will call the!selves "oblivion metal" or something similar.
Metal'll still be very popular in europe...
Many different genres...not only power metal
Well I just got to say that I don't listen to metalcore or deathcore stuff no more. Well I do still listen too ring of Saturn. Which is an technical deathcore band and I just really enjoy them. But I normally listen to death metal and brutal death metal and technical death metal and thrash metal and groove metal and deathgrind and goregrind and power metal and folks metal and folks rock and heavy metal and punk rock and hard rock and horror punk and black metal and symphony black metal and grindcore and gothic rock and gothic metal and that's all I pretty much listen too now a days
Led Zeppelin is one of the inspirations for Power Metal ( American & European)
Power Metal will start to trace its roots
Metalcore has been on its way out. Besides Avenged Sevenfold and Bullet For My Valentine most of the big Metalcore bands play the same venues as the big Metal bands.
What's today's definition of metalcore.
Thrash is actually coming back in North America with Havok, Iron Reagan, Toxic Holocaust and other thrash metal bands.
england as well, evile has gotten pretty popular
+Henry Then you have Sabbat, and Wakeham's Terrortory as well. Check those out too!
Vektor!
Let's not forget the band Battlecross!
Thrash has always been around, what exactly do you mean by coming back?
I doubt this will happen, but I would love to see Appalachian Folk Metal.
horrorfan 1996 it may happen..if there's country metal..then appalacian metal can happen..one metal genre that will never happen will be. bluegrass metal.
International Izzie dave mustaine is a year and a few weeks older than i am..the gullable mouth that's always running is pushing 56!.. lars ulrich is either my age or a little younger..so these are on their 50s. but they rock as hard as today's kids do
International Izzie araya mau have said it
.but not have meant it..looks at scorpions , they"retired"from music back in early-mid2000s, but after running out of money...they did something that i love calling"pulling a who" they came back out of retirement. michael weikath said in a interview that i read..helloween will be going on( writing, recording lps&touring) until they drop dead on stage.
Cult following.
kev, a lot of the metalcore bands have been splitting up lately.. so ,yeah ,it's dying
A lot of Metalcore bands evolved into Deathcore and Djent. Then they blend Djent and Deathcore. Metalcore has also incorporated a lot of proggy influences too.
Terence Aaron Between the Buried and Me is kind of holding on to that metalcore style with a lot of prog elements. I like them.
Dafuq is Djent?
Top hat Jones you don't wanna know. Pretty shit in my opinion
Be'Lakor is the best band around right now.
Metal will be fine in the future.
you are very cool
Totally agree. Metalcore is shit, I hope it'll end soon.
well I can tell you right now; I will sacrifice my own life for black metal!!!! so yeah: I will do my part.
That's.. Concerning.
The future of music in general is very bleak. The metal apocalypse is near.
Motionless in white are amazing but iron maiden is way better :)
Powder metal. =)
GOJIRA
Babymetal will conquer the world!
Babymetal was only a fad in metal.. and fads peter out very quickly... which is why we aren't hearing of them anymore
Yeah sure. :)
