- Having persisted with an ageing ST-165 Toyota Celica since 1992 and having not won an Irish Tarmac Rally Championship title since 1986, Austin McHale rolled the dice in 1997 by moving up to an ST-185 example. McHale managed to take a debut win in the car but only after early leader Andrew Nesbitt crashed out in dramatic fashion.
Austin was a much more Mature driver in the 1990s...he learned so much from the Duels with Billy Coleman in 1980s....it was he who put on pressure in1990s Comming from behind and won most of his 16 international wins👍👏.@paddy Sullivan. 📼 1990s Cork
