I once told someone part of why I love the lore of Elder Scrolls is that it doesn't feel like it was written. It feels like the logical progression of history. Each game's story feels like a drop in the ocean of the vast lore and history of this world.
Yes and one of the best things about the lore is its all from in game sources which can carry their own biases, truths, and lies to it. We don’t actually know if Tiber Septim ascended or not. We don’t actually know if Altmer are descended from gods or not. We don’t even know if Altmer actually came from Aldermis or if all the other elven races were originally Altmer.
The thing I love about elder scrolls lore in particular this “era” is that everything reacts in believable ways as a result of the oblivion crisis, sins of the past, climate change, power vacuums etc. even when we get too Skyrim the Stormcloaks and Imperials are a very believable war
Dagon is the Prince of Destruction and Change. The events of the 4th Era are the direct results of that influence of Change. In ESO, when you defeat Molag Bal and end his Planemeld, you are told by Meridia that even though he lost, many things happened to his advantage. As we see Post-Oblivion Crisis, this is also true for Dagon. Ever since the end of it, it's been destruction and change in many forms from the day Dagon lost to the day Alduin rises and the return of the Dragonborn. And I love the realism in this too. If you look at the past 300yrs of history irl, you can see how everything links together to where we end up today. How Napoleon's conquests had linking events that led to WWI, how the links of that War lead to WWII, how that links to the Cold War, how that leads to Soviet Union's collapse and how that links up to today with the War of Ukraine which sadly might lead to potential 3rd World War if no one plays their cards right.
I wish this vid had brought up an extremly important detail about why the Thalmor were achiving so many great victoies throughout most of the war. You see the thalmor leader in cyrodill, lord Naarifin had a deadric artifact, The Orb of Vearmina that he used to spy on the imperials and basically knew their every move. This gave the Thalmor a massive, unfair advantage as they were basically cheating to win and generally, their forces werne't superior to the Imperial Legions. As evidenced by, once the Orb was no longer a factor, the Thalmor lost pracically every battle againt the Empire. The orb is an extremly important factor in the war and I wish it had been brought up here as the Thalmor never would of achived most of what they did without it.

There are Elder Scrolls books which add a bit more lore to the meteor and An-Xileel. Baar Dau was kept up in suspended animation for a little while longer after Vivec's disappearance with a device called the "Ingenium" that needed to be fed souls to work. Problem with literal souls needed as a fuel is that many Mer were sacrificed. At first the unwanted and unmissed but after those ran out the sacrifices were forced. One of the creators of the Ingenium actually had his wife sacrificed against his will by other co-creators. This caused him to become distraught and he sabotaged the Ingenium so no one else would suffer. The meteor then came careening down causing the eruption. This set into motion a whole "invasion" from a realm of oblivion spurred on by the An-Xileel to further cleanse their land of Non-Argonians and the undesirable non-nationalist Argonians. It was an invasion from Oblivion but with the caveat being since Martin sacrificed himself the invasion was really a "bubble" of oblivion. Within this floating "Oblivion bubble" there was an island that would reap souls down below on Tamriel. Those reaped souls would leave behind undead corpses which became an army that tore through Morrowind and Cyrodil. This caused even more mayhem for the Dunmer and Mede Empire before the Argonian and Thalmor invasions. The books are a fun glimpse into the tensions between the Thalmor and Mede Empire before the war and the disappearance of the moons. They're called "The Infernal City" followed by "Lord of Souls." They're referenced in Skyrim by Ysolda with her Sleeping Tree Sap side hustle where she mentions the Tree coming from a "floating island but, that sounds like non-sense."

This was an excellent overview for the setup in TES5: Skyrim. It only took 10+ years for someone to make a good one 😅. The alternative is to read all the books in the game about events and price things together- not a bad thing to do, but not exactly what most people would want to do.
Nice work on this video! I’ve watched every ES video in this series! ❤️🔥 Will you ever touch on Orsinium and the Orc Strongholds? They’re the only playable race in Elder Scrolls you have not mentioned yet…
The war of the red diamond the wars of cameron the userper the formation of the empire of skyrim and so much more i dont understand why they would stop here
Suggestions: *War of the Red Diamond? *Siege of Orsinium? *The Reman Conquests? *The Preamble to the Three Banners War *Durcorach's Conquest of Cyrodiil and Invasion of High Rock?
I’d love to see what would happen if someone resurrected Pelinal Whitestrake. The look on the Thalmor faces once they witness his hatred for elves firsthand 👀
Please do one on the dragon born.. I know this is difficult as we all roleplay our own stories but if you were to just follow the main questline as well as the civil war questline from the Empire perspective it would be great..And then. You could do a video on what comes next...As I doubt weather Bethesta will ever tell us.
Seeing all the troop movements helps drive home just how hopeless the war looked before the Battle of the Red Ring, not only losing the Imperial City but almost all of Cyrodil.
I side with the empire in all of this, and i hope soon for the next elderscrolls, as an imperial, i dont mind fighting alongside with the stormcloaks, the redguards and all other races to fight off these damn thalmor cut their ears and smug faces off and send them back to the summerset isles.
I just really can't wait to see redguards as a faction fleshed out... My favorite swords were their Scimitars and the Katana and I hope this game gives smithing options for both beyond steel versions.
The storm cloaks ars angry at the empire for outlawing Talos worship. During the Skyrim civil war, the Thalmor help the Storm Cloaks win. Thus making Skyrim a independent kingdom like Hammerfell.
Good video on a war that is seemingly a back-and-forth conflict. Like in the Oblivion Crisis, the fate of the Imperials rests in a final battle at Imperial City.
Why wasn't this in my recommended 2 months ago? Why did it take so long for UA-cam to show me this? This is so clearly content I am interested in. I search Bethesda games all the time, and Binge history other times. Kings and Generals specifically being a popular one.
Established Titles is NOT a real, you don't get anything at all, the Laird title is limited to ONE per property and cannot be divided like that, more importantly, your "souvenir plots" can't be registered due to a prohibition as per Land Registration (Scotland) Act 2012, s 50 (2).
"Following the battle, Lord Naarifin was hanged from the White-Gold tower. There he dangled for thirty-three days...." By the nine Gods I pray this will be the fate of all the Thalmor in the next Elder Scrolls. It would be incredibly gratifying to say the least.
Because his legions are tired and bloodied. He can launch a campaign to retake Hammerfell but one mistake might cost him his last remaining legions. Plus the Thalmor employ disgusting amounts of magic so he really can't take any chances. What Titus Mede II should have done is to secretly arm and support Hammerfell and turn it into a costly proxy-war to bleed the Thalmor instead of cutting ties and ceding the place.
Awesome series. Have loved both Oblivion and Skyrim and this just adds so much to my knowledge! I’d love to see some videos on Warhammer 40k universe however I know how convoluted it can be!
Loved the video! Thanks for keeping the parts where the ambassador upended the cart and Lord Naarifin was hanged and taken away by a winged daedra + animation! Please do not stop making these videos on ES lore!
Loved the main video. Just as an aside, however, only an estate with an established title can claim Lairdship (which is different from Lordship, which requires letters-patent from the Crown - Lairdship being an ancient status of nobility of Brythonic and Gaelic history, whereas Lordship is of Anglo-Norman origin). The plots being "sold" do not convey any claim of Lairdship (this having been confirmed in several cased before the Court of Lyons, the heraldic law court of Scotland), and Lairds cannot claim a title of Sir, Lord or Lady unless they simultaneously have a title of knighthood or ennoblement - such as an Earldom or such. They are known as Firstname of Estate, or formally, Firstname, Laird of Estate (for instance, the popular TV Show Monarch of the Glen had Archie, Laird of Glenbogle, which is the correct title of a Laird). While the project of reforestation is a good one, there is no actual, legally recognised claim of lordship, lairdship or otherwise under Scottish law, nor any other related legal system, and certainly not under any legal system practiced in the British Isles or Commonwealth of Nations.
It's weird their is so much more they could cover the war of the red diamond and wars Cameron the usurper the formation of the skyrim empire and so much more
Cant believe I just found your channel, some great stuff ! Learned some new stuff and thought I'd exhausted most Elder Scrolls lore. Also, from Scotland here myself and seeing your ad made me chuckle 😂
In the ultimatum the Thalmor also demanded a lot of money but this is usually ignored because this it's the only demand left out of the White-Gold concordat.
The oldest legionnaire in the Legion is probably Legate Fasendil, he's been through the night of green fire in Hammerfell, which was in 4E 42 in Sentinel
Fasendil was such a cool character. Good hearted person. All the things he's probably seen in the great war and he still wanted to serve the people. When he talked about the persecution of his fellow mer escaping summerset from thalmor, man. Heavy hitting npc lines.
i think Elder Scrolls VI is going to be about the Second Great War. To bring about a new Merethic Era, the Thalmor need to destroy the Direnni Tower, the last of the remaining anchors that keep Mundus the way it is but the Direnni Tower is sandwiched between the warring states of High Rock and the ever-squabbling Redguards in Hammerfell. It may seem like a no-brainer victory for the Thalmor but i think that's the moment the player character will save the day, by uniting the Bretons, the Redguards and the rest of the races of Men to drive away and fully defeat the Thalmor once and for all.
By the end of the Great War the Thalmor were unable to beat Hammerfell on its own. I don't think that Men will need all too much help from heroes to win this. If nothing else, the Thalmor - with their low birth rates, murderous eugenics, and ethnic cleansings (e.g. Bosmer) are going to need all the help they need. At least, if the lore follows conventional war logic. Can't fight a war with no soldiers, after all. And over the small amount that will have presumably passed, their manpower recovery will have been minimal, compared to that of the combined kingdoms of men.
hope that at least for once, player would be able to pick to good guys side. Really missed on that one in Skyrim, there were not much for Thalmor to be done there
Paidmembership then email the owners via the email on the channel info, if they contact me about it, I can provide handmade (digitally :D) map and any art scene from all 5 videos under ES series. Thanks for the comment.
It wasn't the same at all though. There was no grand assault there, just a scouting force who exploited an enemy's carelessness to take the city in a relatively bloodless manner.
Great series of videos. And the Elder Scrolls lore seems way more interesting and complex than I had ever imagined. I would like to suggest you make a video on the lore of League of Legends and the world of Runeterra. But as things stand, that's a very bare bones lore for now. There is only one battle you could speak of in any detail: the Battle of Alderburg Bridge. In which we can see why the Dauntless Vanguard is considered the best army on Valoran, and by far. And in regards to backstory for the battle, there is much you can talk about the mage rebellion in Demacia, and a bit about their past rivalry with the empire of Noxus.
I like how this ended! It's reminded me of how the Galactic Republic eventually came to accept the idea of coexisting with the Sith Empire after the Great Galactic War ended with the Treaty of Coruscant.
Would you guys have any interest in making videos about the oillars of eternity universe, it has some really good depth and with avowed coming next year or so people might find it exciting too.
Chorrol is pronounced "coral" as we hear in Oblivion many times Also, at 20:30, people really don't seem to realise the Thalmor lost everything they had; they had no reserves left and it would take them centuries to replenish their armies... but it would be too late for that. The fact being, the Altmer practice eugenics (9 out of 10 babies are killed), humans breed faster and reach maturity faster so the Thalmor have to play for time, such as instigating a civil war in Skyrim for instance.
23:01 Ulfric didn't assassinate Torygg, he challenged him to duel which he won by shouting, that being considered dishonorable by many, myself included.
No, no I don't. Considering Lorkhan's deeds, I can't stand with the Padomaic races. Dominion for the win. Empire isn't some holy, morally just nation through and through. You're all quick to point out the flaws in Elves, never in Man

The dragonfires where extinguished at the end of the Oblivion Crisis. There is no more reason or claim for dragonblood to tie itself to the title of Emperor, so no not really.
@@zakarn.s8712 for political purposes, a Dragonborn with the same powers of previous successful dynasties has a better shot of being legitimized as Emperor than the Mede dynasty. As an evidently massive Elder Scrolls fan, I cannot stress enough how well made these videos are
Sure, as others have said, some little details were left out but they overall don't detract from this fantastic video in any way
As always, Well Done W&W!
Some of those are even possibly intentional, as a way of telling the "official" story
I’ve been the biggest fan of Kings&Generals and now I find this channel, god these guys can’t stop spoiling us history gamer nerds with this premium content
This was an excellent overview for the setup in TES5: Skyrim. It only took 10+ years for someone to make a good one 😅. The alternative is to read all the books in the game about events and price things together- not a bad thing to do, but not exactly what most people would want to do.
Back with the best series ❤️
Nice work on this video! I’ve watched every ES video in this series! ❤️🔥 Will you ever touch on Orsinium and the Orc Strongholds? They’re the only playable race in Elder Scrolls you have not mentioned yet…
Its obviously because they are racist... remember what extra credits said... 🤣
One of the best videos ive seen made on this on UA-cam. This blows Shody Cast & Fudgemuppet out of the water
Cap to the highest degree.
Final Elder Scrolls video? Why?
There has to be more to cover!
I mean obviously some of it gets really weird and wild though.
Yeah i know right way they could cover so much more
The war of the red diamond the wars of cameron the userper the formation of the empire of skyrim and so much more i dont understand why they would stop here
Suggestions:
*War of the Red Diamond?
*Siege of Orsinium?
*The Reman Conquests?
*The Preamble to the Three Banners War
*Durcorach's Conquest of Cyrodiil and Invasion of High Rock?
@@matthew-2484 ah yes fellow average elderscrolls enjoyer giga chad I see
Hearing this is the last video make my heart broken. So many story left to tell, so many adventure unfold.
Blame Bethesda. They’re the ones that haven’t expanded on the lore in over a decade
I’d love to see what would happen if someone resurrected Pelinal Whitestrake. The look on the Thalmor faces once they witness his hatred for elves firsthand 👀
Long live the cyborg time travelling elf murdering terminator!
@@zeehero7280 No he's not a cyborg, he's a Shezarrine, an aspect of Shezarr the Missing God.
Thanks so much for making this!!! I can see all the work that was put into this. 100% worth it!
Please do one on the dragon born.. I know this is difficult as we all roleplay our own stories but if you were to just follow the main questline as well as the civil war questline from the Empire perspective it would be great..And then. You could do a video on what comes next...As I doubt weather Bethesta will ever tell us.
Yes please
From the milk drinkers perspective*
Seeing all the troop movements helps drive home just how hopeless the war looked before the Battle of the Red Ring, not only losing the Imperial City but almost all of Cyrodil.
I side with the empire in all of this, and i hope soon for the next elderscrolls, as an imperial, i dont mind fighting alongside with the stormcloaks, the redguards and all other races to fight off these damn thalmor cut their ears and smug faces off and send them back to the summerset isles.
The Elder Scrolls: Race Wars
The sons of Skyrim ARE Imperials. There's no such thing as the stormcloaks... thus, Long Live the Empire!
@@michaellane5381 my favorite swords were the curved swords. Curved. Swords.
Loved this series on Elder Scrolls!!!! Awesome work
Damn elves....long live the empire
Please add ALL OF THESE EPISODES TO SPOTIFY
you forgot to mention that the emperor was wounded right before the battle of the red ring and that a hero wore his armor in his place.
Good video on a war that is seemingly a back-and-forth conflict. Like in the Oblivion Crisis, the fate of the Imperials rests in a final battle at Imperial City.
The dragonborn becoming the new emperor and defeat the aldmeri dominion, must be Nice to see
Why wasn't this in my recommended 2 months ago? Why did it take so long for UA-cam to show me this? This is so clearly content I am interested in. I search Bethesda games all the time, and Binge history other times. Kings and Generals specifically being a popular one.
23:19 that was me literally.
Established Titles is NOT a real, you don't get anything at all, the Laird title is limited to ONE per property and cannot be divided like that, more importantly, your "souvenir plots" can't be registered due to a prohibition as per Land Registration (Scotland) Act 2012, s 50 (2).
I'd have been honestly surprised if Scotland was willing to cede its lands to the general public willy-nilly.
It’s a nice idea though. I’d give my ass and a testicle to become a feudal lord, honestly😔
@S. it's a lie
@S. Giving a rock and saying it is from Giant golem will also stand out, but it doesn't make it true though.

The battle of the Red Ring was an absolute DISASTER for the Thalmor. Why on Earth Titus Mede II made any concessions at all is a mystery.
@@MarvinT0606 "Magic must defeat magic" is overrated. At most, you just need enchanted weapons.
Ad will continue there glorious conquest. High elf is the master race. The first queen was a traitor to her kind! Awesome vid btw lol
6:26 Dunmer: "Not cool, man."
Simply perfection great format and the delivery is on point great job
Underrated comment. Established titles is really grinding my gears with their fake shit.
I mean you forgot the mention how the Dragonborn slaughtered their presence in Skyrim. As I made sure to kill every Thalmor I saw. Haha😂
Top work well done guys was very interesting indeed
I love the lore friendly artwork
Thanks a lot, we are all fans here. :)
the animations make it look like the imperial legions had no casualties at all xD which contradicts the narrator's saying "was a pirric victory"
THIS IS WHAT I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR.
Sad to say goodbye to The Elder Scrolls videos
It's weird their is so much more they could cover the war of the red diamond and wars Cameron the usurper the formation of the skyrim empire and so much more
Amazing video, very informative
Nooo! Im huge TES fan, i hope you make more elder scrolls videos in the future
Cant believe I just found your channel, some great stuff ! Learned some new stuff and thought I'd exhausted most Elder Scrolls lore. Also, from Scotland here myself and seeing your ad made me chuckle 😂
"33 days?"

love your presentation. i used to make libraries in my elder scrolls campaigns lol
Could you please cover the Battle of Autobot City?
Transformers Great War, I wander how many casualties were on both sides? Tens of Billions?
In the ultimatum the Thalmor also demanded a lot of money but this is usually ignored because this it's the only demand left out of the White-Gold concordat.
Thalmor: Are we the baddies?
Other Thalmor: *_* ehm no no we are superior.
Superior in being shit
yeah, familiar shit: "superior aryan race" etc.
typical war winners, it's normal 😂
best part about the thalmor is knowing that even they hate themselves half the time.
There is a book in Skyrim called Dreams of Sovngarde or something like that. He talks about the Skyrim Legion before the battle of the red ring
@@jamesilagan189 indeed he is, he just wanted this war to end
I wonder when we'll get round two
i think Elder Scrolls VI is going to be about the Second Great War.
Really missed on that one in Skyrim, there were not much for Thalmor to be done there
More elder scrolls videos would be amazing
"...and then, the akavir attacked"
impressive and clear - fantastic!
The empire really could have used Pelinial here..... He would have looooooooved to be a part of the elf slaughter.

Paidmembership then email the owners via the email on the channel info, if they contact me about it, I can provide handmade (digitally :D) map and any art scene from all 5 videos under ES series. Thanks for the comment.
The recapture of the Imperial Capitol, reminds of how the Byzantines retook Constantinople from the Crusaders.
It wasn't the same at all though. There was no grand assault there, just a scouting force who exploited an enemy's carelessness to take the city in a relatively bloodless manner.
Indeed, hopefully we'll see something similar in the next TES game
This was so fucking good lovely animations
Never played Morrowind, but oblivion and Skyrim are amazing

I wonder who that mysterious dude in Helgen was?
I was told by a trustworthy guy that his name was M'aiq.
This was awesome loved the lore I hope the next elder scrolls comes soon I want to know the outcome of the Skyrim Civil War
If your interested in the lore of elderscrolls go check out a youtube channel called fudgemuppet they make some amazing content
haha no, league lore is dogshit

I hope they cover other moments and wars in Elder Scrolls like the war of the red diamond
Do we have any info about high rock during this whole ordeal other that the fact they kicked the orcs out of the mountains?
I like how this ended! It's reminded me of how the Galactic Republic eventually came to accept the idea of coexisting with the Sith Empire after the Great Galactic War ended with the Treaty of Coruscant.
More like malgus was deceived into sparring the republic
Would you guys have any interest in making videos about the oillars of eternity universe, it has some really good depth and with avowed coming next year or so people might find it exciting too.
Chorrol is pronounced "coral" as we hear in Oblivion many times
Also, at 20:30, people really don't seem to realise the Thalmor lost everything they had; they had no reserves left and it would take them centuries to replenish their armies... but it would be too late for that. The fact being, the Altmer practice eugenics (9 out of 10 babies are killed), humans breed faster and reach maturity faster so the Thalmor have to play for time, such as instigating a civil war in Skyrim for instance.
They has the Bosmer and Khajiit to though.
It's why I support the stormcloaks every play through. Help destabilise the empire
No more elder scrolls? :( its the reason i subscribed :(
23:01 Ulfric didn't assassinate Torygg, he challenged him to duel which he won by shouting, that being considered dishonorable by many, myself included.
It's been described as an assassination by some characters in the game, I presumed that's why the video was referring too.

Wouldn't the Dragonborn have a reasonable claim to the Imperial Throne since like the Septims he is blessed by Akatosh.
The only cases of non-related succession because of Akatosh are through war. Everything else was the relations of whoever was blessed by Akatosh.
Plus killing Alduin is a *big* boost to a prospective Emperor's credentials. What would really cement the case for the Dragonborn is if he dominates and commands other dragons in war: they're the great equalizers the Empire needs against the magic-wielding Thalmor.
Love this
Was the war really a Pyrric victory? Humans breed and come to age far faster than elves. Within a generation, there can be a second war with full legions while the elves aren’t back up to strength.
Exactly, the Empire is at full strength right and the Thalmor are still recovering.
