  • This groundbreaking ATV children's drama memorably blends hard science and fantasy in its tale of two teenagers who discover the existence of a 'time barrier' enabling them to travel to different periods and locations - from World War Two to chilling visions of the future.
    Devised by Ruth Boswell - who would go on to produce both The Tomorrow People and Shadows - Timeslip was unabashedly intelligent and often prescient in its theme of the use and abuse of science. Well remembered to this day as a benchmark of 1970s telefantasy, this set contains all 26 episodes alongside a wealth of special features.

    Seriously, how many kids of our age group didn't walk past concrete posts and push their arms out forward and imagine the Time barrier could be real ?? I did and I'm 58 now !! Fabulous TV series, we will never see its like again sadly.

      I did! So did both my brothers
      And sister. I'm trying to persuade my brother to visit the actual concrete posts - just a few miles up the road from us. Would two blokes in their Fifties look a bit silly feeling around for a time barrier? Richard says he's too grown up to play Timeslip now. He says I should act my age. "I do" I reply!

    Jaw dropping special effects!!! I do remember watching this programme as a kid. It would have been good to show opening credits and accompanying theme tune though.

    Ah, it is here. I recently remembered the title of this series, as I enjoyed watching it in the 70s. Also found first episode of The Tomorrow People, (I guess my younger self would say I am one now or at least think there'd been a timeslip!)
    I enjoyed watching The Survivors too. Love the Timeslip font by the way very Tomorrow's World!

    I loved this show growing up. Couldn't remember the name of it until today when I did a search for 70s Science Fiction shows and the name showed up in the list and I thought, "I think that's it."
    Now want to show it to my kids - thankfully they're used to me inflicting 70s science fiction on them and usually quite enjoy it...

    I have the original release. Would have been interesting if you had got the missing colour episodes 'colourised'. I believe that due to the ITV strike at the time (due to the use of colour cameras instead of B&W ones if memory serves me correctly) some of the later episodes were made in black and white

    • @Witheredgoogie
      @Witheredgoogie 5 років тому +3

      @Chuck Fadanoid No these were surviving B/W copies of programmes originally made in colour..what they discovered was, that deep in the print it had also recorded a colour reference signal (which the tech should have switched off for B/W), they developed a computer program to read it and it would show the colour as original and real and called 'colour recovery... 'not painstaking 'colorization' which is basically someone with a brush on every frame interpreting what he/she thinks the colour should be.

    • @DeannaAllison
      @DeannaAllison 2 роки тому +1

      @@Witheredgoogie I think the same technique was used to restore the colour on an episode of Dad's Army.

      The series was originally made in colour - but about three or four episodes from the story The Year Of The Burn Up were made - and subsequently broadcast - in black and white, due to the Colour Strike - unfortunately, all the episodes except for the final episode of The Time Of The Ice Box, now only exist as black and white episodes - when it was issued on VHS, even that surviving colour episode was downgraded to black and white to maintain consistency - when issued on DVD, the colour episode is in colour, but the rest is in black and white!
      I would happily repurchase a colour print of the entire series - what I did see of it when it went out on television, I saw it in black and white - so seeing the whole series in colour - including the episodes that were shown in black and white - would be new to me!

      It's time and expense. And studios can't be bothered. Colourisation of Timeslip and Hine, for instance, would be far easier, as the surviving colour episodes would be an accurate template. In the future it'll be par of the course to colourise programmes that were 'black and whited' by grubby Union disputes or colour episodes that were wiped.
