AWP nerf made T side AWPing really annoying but what really killed it was the CZ nerf as you didn't just have a pocket AK along with your AWP anymore.
Trying to rush down an AWPer back then was basically impossible.
Now we just have five seven lol
@@singular9 the five seven is nowhere near as good as it was even back then. Pistols were heavily nerfed aswell. The CZ in particular got so nerfed it literally became imposible to efficiently use

yeah actually in the same patch as the awp nerf and tagging nerf was also the tec9 nerf which was arguably just as strong as the CZ which was nerfed iirc about 4 months prior. lots of small changes that added up imo

I think you highlight a lot of points where it shows KennyS was so ahead of his time or influenced other peoples styles. Maybe Kenny wasn't the best, but he was surely the flashiest and also one of the most influential that those after him integrated into their styles.
A really good take on it. He definitely wasn't the best awper, but he was the best showman. And that is why, I think, so many people took so much from his gameplay and incorporate into later CSGO.

got lost in the sauce on this video and somehow managed to bring up MR12 and pistol rounds. can't tell if it was genius or just pure insanity after working on a video for like 2 month
edit: for the hybrid/semi-hybrid talk, i made these up myself but tried to fit the categories reasonably:
primary awper = awp #1 kills (usually this is 35-50%)
hybrid = awp as 12%+ of kills
semi-hybrid = awp as 7-11% of kills

in my opinion he was the best awper, i started maining awp, because of him. Its a legend for me, i didn't understand sht about csgo or didn't even watch a lot live, it was just compilations of him, in 2016 when i started and i just loved him, idk what happend, but im thankful!

Oh god ..... I can see a vast majority of CS players doesn't play in 2013-2014. The AWP nerf at that time was a crime

Every time I find myself in an argument with moron that doesn't understand how actually Kenny was playing and how the AWP didn't impact him the way they think it did .

A couple things:
1. You can't use old rating aggregates. Without filters and context, they don't mean much of anything. You can only judge ratings per series rather than over a span of series (unless you analyze each series). That's why a lot of judgement around old pros relies on the eye test.
2. kennyS, despite never having reached #1, was considered almost unanimously the best player in 2014 including by HLTV. If you read their 2014 Top 20 article page on kennyS, they said _"Individually Kenny "kennyS" Schrub was by far the most impressive player of the year, but on the other hand his great play led to barely any achievements."_
3. When going through interviews, it seemed like kennyS was more emotionally affected by the AWP nerf than physically. His stance has changed a few times on this, but I distinctly remember him talking about how the nerf demotivated him as a player. This tracks with his decline as well since he would eventually be benched from G2 largely due to work ethic. kennyS never lost the skill he had, rather he stopped investing everything into the game. His mental health took a toll everywhere on the server until he was eventually benched.

KennyS also played for a "weaker" side Titan. At times it was him having the team on his back, with the occasional apex or rpk popoff.
Revisionist history would make kennyS #1 in the world.
flusha would be #1 by current standards. He probably would have gotten #1 by 2014 standards but everybody thought he was a cheater so that's probably why he didn't
Edit: On seconds thought maybe kennyS would still be #1 despite the sizeable gap in map sample size but I don't know what would be criteria for events back then (Kato, Colonge and Major is clearly the top dogs, then you have other elite events like Blast Global and some IEMs where every top team is present etc.)

I think the m0nesy point is a great one. He’s got the KennyS flair and mentality and style of play, peeking probably more aggressively, but he’s got a team that knows how to play around him and use utility to Counter T pushes and allow him to set up, and he’s incredibly skilled at using his own utility to either play around/through and force people into playing how he wants, and that’s on top of him being just fucking better. However, I think Zywoo is still the model of what a super should be. Not only is he incredibly good but his game sense is just unparalleled even through his dip in form. I like the changes valve has made now tho ngl to the awp. It’s made it more risky to buy and more lucrative meaning appears have to have more impact but given how efficient Util is and can be at clearing an awper running without one fully dedicated to that role is feasible at least. I do think they need to adjust the eco for rifles slightly given we have mr12 tho

No doubt about it, that KennyS was the best to ever touch the awp. Craziest part was he didn’t practice much he would just play.
All this video has told me was that KennyS was way ahead of his time
I would love to see one of these for jW. He was insane in 13-14 but then nosedived for the majority of go bar some tournaments. I wanna know why because hes my favourite of all time.

we see this a lot with nerfs/buffs in csgo/cs2: sometimes the updates biggest impact is not its direct changes but how it forces players across the scene to re-evaluate the meta. Especially from 2012-2018ish this happened constantly, but its also happening again with early econ after MR12. Other examples include SMGs, after the UMP buff. The gun was still really good pre buff but by making it OP and meta defining, players were forced into acknowledging the general utility and viability of SMGs that has always been there. Even after the UMP was destroyed SMGs always had a far bigger role in CS after everyone spend 6 months force buying $1200 UMPs every round.

kennyS should've been the number one rated player for 2014 and it's shown by the reactions to the player rankings at the time. The fact that the HLTV ranking was and mostly still is a team centric ranking, despite being an individual ranking is ridiculous.
Played against him earlier this year on faceit, was actually really fun. Tbf he did say I was decent which coming from Frenchy is a big compliment especially when I one deaged him and jw into oblivion ☺️
I loved KennyS even when he was too famous and everyone copied him, he is the only awper to make me feel like I should learn how to awp. There was magic in how he did things but after the nerf, it was gone and it made me sad.
He still hit some crazy shots I believe other awpers wouldn't be able, barring you know lol s1mple, to but he wasn't as dominant

Hey, they mostly fixed subtick by now. The only stuff that's holding the game back is the frame based hit reg (lower fps = less frames to hit an enemy on a flick shot) paired with the worse performance. For me I noticed that when I don't perform it's usually bc I'm no longer in shape (coming back after a break or not warm yet) or bc my mental is broken bc I missed a few shot for e.g.. Maybe just try to get better again in dm. If you keep at it you'll surely find the success you had in the past again ☺️ not trying to argue btw just trying to be a little helpful 😅
Some food for thought:
-Kenny fell off bit before the AWP nerf. So while it might've been significant contributor in his "downfall", it wasn't only factor.
-At his peak he played in teams filled with players far weaker than him. VeryGames & Titan. Game outcomes would regularly get decided by
whether kenny was having a good day or not. I'm not sure how the ratings from the time were put together, but if winning was emphasized then
it would explain why he wasn't ranked higher in any lists.
Prime KennyS was cracked out of his fucking mind and did impossible shit on the regular, the best awper of all time probably.
I wish someone would give Voo a real chance to do something in CS and make it big time he is such a nice genuine person

OMG someone finally said it. I never understood why people keep comparing monesy with s1mple. I've always seen him as the new KennyS since have a very similar agressive gameplay style.
same region probably. M0nesy and Kenny are very aggressive but pretty structured and calculated. Nobody plays like s1mple nor should they, his angles, peaks or pushes are some of the most asinine approach that even silver wouldn’t do that’s why he couldn’t win until he toned that down a bit but it was really his form was really high that major
Something that couldve been worth mentioning is kennys basically never practiced hard and that probably informed his inconsistency post awp nerf more than the awp nerf itself. Whereas monesy grinds so much that any playstyle inconsistency is evened out by pure hours spent grinding.
KennyS was great because his awp ability could make or break a round. If KennyS gets 2 or 3 kills, you're probably winning the round, and if you're losing, you're at least losing by less. With so many awpers focused on just getting one key pick, they just didn't have the same impact on the game. That key pick has a maybe 2/5 chance you hit someone the enemies can't win without (the bomb carrier rotating back, their float preventing your team from surrounding them, their top Fragger who spent the most but got zero value for pushing econ, etc). If KennyS deletes 3 players, odds are better that he's removing a key component of the opponent's strat from the round
The last AWP nerf that came out recently really made it worse for me

I just see videos of him playing now and he just rages like crazy over the smallest things its hard to watch anything with kennys now
To be honest, I really liked the awp change. The games were pretty awful pre-nerf. Especially on dust2, where a guy could peek you like he's in bugatti, kill you, and proceed to go to B.
I also liked all the memes which portrayed kennyS towing all the awp asimovs into the sewer.

not a pro but i got nerfed cuz of how cs2s AWP functions. definitely im not the only one most of people are complaining about it but cs2 actually is a disgusting nerf toward plyers like KennyS Monesy Broky all these people i mentioned are almost the fastest snipers ever to touch cs by far (at least in pro scene).
but also trusting visuals is a personal thing that holds me back in cs2 way too much. overally cs2 made me paranoid about everything XD
The problem with kennyS was always his consistency, even before the nerf he would be insane for like 2 months then fall off. From Dec 2014 to March 2015 for example was his absolute peak, but prior to December of 2014 he wasn't AS scary, I guess some of that was KQLY being on his team and cheating away some of the kills he would have gotten. But, the moment KQLY was banned and RpK came back there was a palpable difference in impact kennyS got in games. Dude had OT games dropping 50+ against fnatic, but it never lasted. s1mple and zywoo could hold the level for the majority if not the entire year.

To be fair, KennyS himself admits it wasn't the nerf that got him. He just didnt practice as much as everyone else did and they eventually became better than him.

The rating thing isn’t exactly right because the methodology changed. KennyS 2014 would definitely be higher than Zywoo and close to s1mple 2018 level if it was using the new methodology

I dont understand : you say monesy is on a team with a player that could never win a major and shows Ex6Tenz = Niko . I really dont see what they have in common. Ex6 was Imo one of the best player of all time. He definitely didn't have the best shoot but his game sense was another level, accomplished Team Leader and overall intelligence in play is just unmatchable.

Awping has always been and still is way too overpowered. I used to use it at every opportunity but it just felt scummy using it against a majority of rifle users so I switched. One hit with body shot or 5 hits to the body with an ak. It will never be removed from the game but I can’t help but feel like it should be nerfed even further. I’m talking ssg level or maybe slightly more damage than that.

I used to agree but this basically made the game less like CSS run and gun gameplay which doesn't fit CS. However I don't understand why they buffed SMGs and pistols run and gun right after that.
KennyS 'slump' after the nerf was more motivation, we all know what Kenny can do when he's motivated. Amazing Awp shots and nutty clutches, but when he isn't practicing or locked into the game. He's just middle of the pack, don't get me wrong kenny is still good, just not the KennyS with highlights every round.
hltv rankings were arbitrary.. in reality kennys was probably top 3 in 2014 and top 3 in 2015. only those who were there would know!
