FX Crown Continuum and the new Superlite Barrel

  • The Crown Continuum embodies all of the advances made to the Crown, including the picatinny rail and especially the new Superlite barrel, but the Continuum also comes with both a 700mm barrel and a 380mm barrel!
    Now you can have the compactness you want in a truck or brush gun and the power and accuracy you need for extreme long range bench shooting. And all of this comes in at only about $100 more than a standard Crown!
    In this review, we test it at 100 yards with both barrels, plus we put in a 700mm slug liner and shoot some Nielsen Specialty Ammo 23 grain slugs.
    What is our conclusion? We still have a hard time believing it, but the FX Crown has just gotten even better!

    I honestly thought nothing (besides our HM1000X LRT's) was going to make us fall in love more then our Impact MKIIs... Our new Crowns and 700mm slug liners in .22 and .25 has done exactly that.
    We are totally in love with the new Crowns, the triggers are just that tad better then our Impacts and we are getting tighter grouping at 200y then with the Impacts running the .22 and .25 Slug liners with NSA slugs.
    The new setup on the Crowns makes the Crowns a better gun then the 1st gens (we own two first gens as well) and the guns are just amazing.

    Travis- Brand new Crown Continuum owner here. Why no mention of the 5th grub screw in the picatinny rail that must be removed to loosen the barrel?????? I fought for an hour trying to get the damn barrel loose b4 realizing there are 5 screws that must be loosened! And that top one was tight as hell. And all the stuff online talks about the easy barrel changes w/o removing the scope LOL. WRONG. What's the deal? Did your gun not have that top screw???

    • @anthonygillespie4523
      @anthonygillespie4523 3 роки тому

      If you unscrew all 4 screws, then you can just twist the barrels out, at least my barrels do. I have never loosen the screw on top. Also I haven't had to remove the scope. IJS.

    I have to wonder if the position of the barrel liner support rings (and the tape you added) in any way affects the gun’s accuracy. I’m new to Airguns, but I know that “damping” firearm barrel resonance with tuners can affect firearms accuracy.

    The three grub screws on the older Crown breech blocks will hold this new Superlight STX barrel in place just fine. After all, there were never any problems with the old STX barrels coming loose, and these new Superlight STX barrels weigh 1/2 lb. less!

    • @airgundepot
      @airgundepot  4 роки тому

      It's not double speak. We are just relating what we have been told from the manufacturer, that is, that it isn't recommended to put the new 700mm barrels in the old actions because the success of the new 700mm Crown barrel is based, in part, on the new design of the barrel and, in part, on the new design of the action. So you are free to put the new 700mm barrel in an older Crown, but neither we nor FX guarantee that it will function as well as it does on the new guns.
      Speaking as an owner of a Gen 1 Crown, I would like to have the new version (why not?), but mine works so well that I can't complain about it one bit. Plus, I like a little bit of forward weight to a gun, so once again we see that there are always trade offs to everything.

      I would not worry about it unless your not shooting accurately enough for your application, (and I bet you are). I did not see much difference with the short and long barrel in terms of accuracy. How it fits you and how it shoots for you are the 2 main things, and you are in the 100 yard club.

    This looks like a freaking amazing gun. But the package deal does suck for me. I love the 700mm barrel but i am not interested in the 380mm barrel. Additionally, the fact that the hard case does not fit the gun with the 700mm barrel sucks. Not sure what they were thinking by making such a small case, you basically have to buy a different case if you plan to keep the 700mm barrel mounted on the gun. Those that are only interested in the 700mm barrel are basically paying for a 380mm barrel and a hard case that they will not use. I hope they add more options to this package because this gun is a beast.

    • @EarthSurferUSA
      @EarthSurferUSA 4 роки тому +1

      Judging from these groups, I don't see an advantage of the 700mm barrel. In that "case", I would stick with the short barrel just for possible "bumping the barrel issues". I don't really trust the barrel only supported at the breech, so the shorter the better, (for durability reasons), if it shoots fine.

      Reni, good point. There are some perplexing things that come from FX. I sort of wonder why they don't just let people order what they want, almost like taking food off of a buffet line. My other question is this; why don't the power (fps) numbers line up with those of the Impact? many of us are looking for the power of the impact, and its ability to shoot slugs while having the beauty and durability of a wooden stock! If we buy this rifle and we are looking at paying over $2000, and that's before scope base and rings, why doesn't it come with the same slug slinging power of the impact?

    • @anthonygillespie4523
      @anthonygillespie4523 3 роки тому +1

      @@theshootindutchman Not bragging, but with my crown and using the 380 mm barrel and me tunning the gun, I get 942 fps with the 18.13 jsb's, 974 with the hades and poly mags, 920 with the H&N hunters/hunter extremes, and 1000 fps with the crosman pirahnas, and the reg set @ 150 and the port set at 25/30 and the hammer spring set on max. I can get more power if I go back in and adjust the internal hammer spring and set the reg @ 160-170. Most of the time I just set the port on 177/22 and the hammer spring on 4 or B and it does the job. Also, I think the impact comes with a power plenium and the crown doesn't. With me changing the barrel over to a 700 mm, I do get an extra 95-110 fps. As I said, I still have room to adjust the power up even more, but I'm not a guy that shoots over 100 yrds, unless it's something the size of a fox, beaver, or hog. Then it's max port and max hammer spring.

      Anish man: I see a lot of people asking for a free gun on these comments sections, which helps me understand the vast differences in different cultures around the world, and how they came to be. When the USA was founded 240 some years ago, what it offered for the first time (pretty much) in human history was freedom, "Individual Liberty", and the free market belonging to any citizen who wanted to use their brain to compete producing great things. The USA used to be called "The Land Of Opportunity" from different people from all over the world because of that exceptional founding. It was those philosophies of individual liberty that allowed many religions to live side by side in relative harmony, and it was those philosophies of individual liberty that freed the Black slaves in the USA. No other philosophies liberated anybody, ever. In the old USA, we used to despise "beggars", because we had opportunity. But after the sabotage of the philosophies of individual liberty over the last 10 decades in the USA, decreasing production, (sending our free market to communist china), education, there is no shortage of beggars in the USA today, (who vote for any communist who says they will get free stuff). What you and I both need to do,---is bring back the USA constitution, and spread it all across the globe. We have to demand our individual liberty, (because we have individual human brains that can think), and we have to demand our free market back, so we trade civilly with money instead of blood. The reason why you are poor, is because the world is following crappy philosophies that say it is OK to take from one man and give to another. But with opportunity in our hands, it is immoral to consume more than you produce. I wish the world ran on the philosophies that founded the USA, because you would not be begging for a gun, you would be making some of the best of them and never be poor again. Now tell me, which philosophies do we as thinking man, deserve?
      I am Doug, from Michigan USA. I paid my way through college starting our flipping burgers, got a small machine shop college degree while flipping those burgers, (paid for my own education, part time college full time employment). I move to a city for more jobs, (pay was suffering form doing business with communist china), and got more education, (2 more degrees in manufacturing). Then after all that work and over 20 shops I worked at, (gaining a lot of skill), I started my own business, and love every minute of it. It is mine. Are you understanding the differences of cultures? Are you understanding how important proper philosophy is?

    FX is just another high priced PCP Air Rifle. Some lower priced PCP Rifles can perform just as good, like my Hatsan AT-44 QE, the Benjamin Marauder, etc.etc.

      You honestly dont believe that do you? At a 100y i will shoot groups with you for 1000 dollars per ten shot group of whos is better. My Crown .22 and .25 both 700mm Slug liner or my Impact X .25 700mm pellet barrel... I will win 9 out of ten of those groups and likely 10 out of 10... My RAW HM1000X LRT .22 and .25 will eat you alive, there's just no compersion... And it's not just a comparision of accuracy as that's a given but it's about premium quality and beauty your paying 2000.00 for a world class gun.
      These guns are consistently capable of sub minute 10 shot groups at 100y...
      The slug liners are easily holding 1.5 minute 10 shot groups are 250y and im consistently shooting 10 shot 300y groups that are sub 2 minute with NSA .22 and .25 slugs.
      My .22 HM1000X LRT is a solid .75 minute 10 shot group gun at 100y at a indoor range and a lot of those groups are right at a half minute.

      @@EDCandLace yes I do believe that. I owned a hatsan At 44QE Long, and this gun would consistently do 1/4''' at 100 yards with a diablo match pellet. That gun is a seriously underrated pcp, and it didn't break the bank. Sure it wasn't as pretty as this FX, but I guarantee it'll shoot just as good.

      I have not bought a PCP yet, but I have the Hatsan 136 .30 cal break barrel gun. It is only a $300.00 gun, and some of the quality shows why. But I make things work, and i like the gun overall. But then I damaged the piston seal, and found unless you are comfortable putting your credit card through your computer, (and I am not), you can get parts from Hatsan. You will not get anybody on the phone from Hatsan USA, and I will not buy a Hatsan PCP. I love great quality, and I will pay for it. But, I will always try to contact the company to see how easy they are to do business with before I buy a gun from them. Hatsan fails very very badly in the service department. I have never had such a hard time giving a business my money. It's like the people of Turkey just don't quite understand how to use the free market,--ya think? :)

      If that gun will shoot .25 inch groups at 100y then you have the world's most accurate pcp.... It will NOT shoot .25 inch 100y groups even 3 shot groups.
      I have shot a couple sub half inch ten shot 100y groups with my Impact MKII .30 but that doesn't mean it's a sub half minute gun... It consistently shoots 10 shot 100y groups that are between 1 and 1.25 moa... So it's a sub 1.25 MOA gun.... Same for my HM1000X LRT poly barreled. 22 pushing 27.5g NSA slugs it is a sub MOA 5 shot group gun and a 1.25moa 10 shot group gun at 100y.
      Your AT44 will in no way shoot MOA 5 shot groups at a 100y consistantly... They are guns that normally do around 2.5 to 3 moa 10 shot 100y groups meaning it's a 3 moa gun. Impressive for the price BUT IN NO WAY a gun that stands a chance in competition ...
      If your AT44 will shoot what you say then you will win EBR with ease so go get that check!
      I can assure you that the gun is in no way capable of in the top half at EBR no matter who is on the trigger the gun will be the limiting factor... To the point a less skilled shooter would consistently beat you at a 100y with a match quality gun.
      It's sad that people believe that it's just name that makes a 2000 dollar gun and that a 500 dollar gun is just as good and will shoot along with the match grade guns...
      There is simply no comparison , the fit and finish and quality of high end guns far surpass budget guns... Performance wise they can be very good but they will not do what the match guns are capable of.
      I can out shoot a Budget gun (say 900 and less guns) and the gun will more then likely be the weak link... In competition YOU have to be the weak link, the guns have to be able to out shoot you, my RAW, Crowns and Impacts, Dream Lite bottle, Wildcat, Daystate Red Wolf and so on and so forth are capable of out shooting me 100% of the time... My Hatsan Nova Star .25, regulated and Marmot hammer forged barrel .25 and .22, and my BT65 .30 are not capable or out shooting me and that makes them not a competition grade gun.
      Also don't go telling people that your ANY PCP will shoot .25 inch groups at 100y. My highly custom .257 will shoot sub half minute 5 shot 100y groups and stay sub moa out to 450y but that is a highly customized PCP gun that has over a year in the building of it. And a whole lot of tuning dialing it in to one specific slug that I actually poor and Swedge myself that is a highly customized PCP gun that has over a year in the building of it. And a whole lot of tuna dialing it into one specific slug that I tailored the design of and make myself. That is far beyond what any PCP can do with pellets no matter how precise the gun is.

      Well apparently there are an awful lot of people who will because those people are in business making guns and they've been doing it for over a hundred years Benjamin Franklin used to go hunting with an air rifle so they've been around for a long time my friend and you don't have to wear ear muffs when you're shooting all day

    • @claybornlewis276
      @claybornlewis276 4 роки тому +3

      Think about what a box of pellets cost compared to what a box of shells cost when you go out shooting and he shoots a thousand rounds in one day how much are your thousand rounds going to cost you just sit and shoot targets all day that's the people that will go out and spend two grand because in the long run they're going to save a shitload of money over the years so it's not stupidity it's simple mathematics
