This video is a prime example of why more of us who study, who are knowledge workers, need to subscribe to Kathleen Spracklen's channel!
Her down to earth approach, thoughtfulness, and respect for her viewers are first rate. No bombast or polemics here about analogue versus digital - just useful information that can be beneficial for any of us, regardless of our preferences!
Thank you so much Kathleen for your hard work and dedication!
Thank you, Daly. I see you have a playlist on Scrivner. Do you think it is worth the learning curve?
@@KathleenSpracklen I set up Scrivner a long time ago, but never actually used it, so in all honesty I can't answer your. question. From other people's comments online I have seen that Scrivner works for some folk but not others.
@@dalydegagne1839 Thanks for taking the time to respond, Daly.
The real world example is very useful and inspirational. With these personal knowledge management/Zettelkasten subjects it’s easy to get stuck in the ‘planning’ and maintenance phases, without actually doing the work . Thanks for sharing
I hope you will find some inspiration here.
I expect this series will be great for those of us whose eyes are bigger than our bellies. 🎉
In addition to this book by Adler, people can also read the intro to The Great Books. Also, Dan Alasso has a reading group series on How to Read a Book, which they relate back to note taking and zk.
Personally, I'm interested in using Sister Miriam Joseph's book on Liberal Arts (among many others) to build my zk.
Interesting. I hope you will find something of value here to add to your other great sources.
Great video and series, thank you! I've been following Adler's steps, but I really like how you break it down using your bib cards. I haven't done things like take down the terms on the bib cards, but I think I will start to now. I've read Sinek's "Start With Why" and loved it, but I didn't read it the Adler way. As soon as you showed your note card with key terms you drew from the index, my mind made immediate connections to other things I've studied and I wish I already had it all in my zettelkasten. I tend to take a ton of bib card notes, but I guess I will be increasing that number! Capturing those key terms on the bib cards up front will help me think in advance how things might be indexed and how ideas may wind up connected. I love it.
I've been surprised, too, at how much more I'm getting out of reading Adler's way.
Wow Kathleen - you are my heroine! I watched this video two times now. The first time immediately after I received your email and today - finally finding the time - a second time, following exactly your explanations on the first three steps of inspectional reading! Therefore I took a book I just started reading… You are so right: It’s a lot of work but it’s absolutely worth every minute we spend on it and every card we write during this process!!! Already now, after only three steps I can feel a much deeper connection to the book and its content. It’s like magic ;-). One practical question: The cards you wrote for the three steps - do you think, they should become part of the bib-card or are they not part of the zettelkasten? Once again: Thank you so much for „hearing“ my question and for even producing a series to answer it! I’m very much looking forward to the next part! Greetings from Germany Michael 😊
Yes, all of this is bib card material. However, if you want to select something for a Main Card, you can certainly do that.
@@michaelletzel I agree with you about Kathleen Spracklen and her Zettelkasten work. She deserves to have many more subscribers and viewers - I hope you and others spread the word!
@@KathleenSpracklen Great, thank you! So I‘m on the right track :-)
@@dalydegagne1839 I‘ll do my very best ;-)
