Ah, such wonderful memories of our 30th Wedding Anniversary night. We had John singing for us in person and we were 110% satisfied with everything he did for us. We Love you John.
@@annmarsden5759 - My most sincere apologies for my misunderstanding of your post. And also sorry for your personal loss. Having only known Rowles for "If I Only Had Time" for most of my life, I'm only just discovering some of his other recordings (such as this one). Sorry again for my poor mis-interpretation of the written word.
I am so glad I have found this site. Saw John in 2007 and look forward to another show in NZ. This song is my favorite for a whole lot of good reasons and memories. Thank you

I had forgoten how incredible his voice is, I have been a fan since the mid 60's and I suppose drifted away, but now at 57 years of age I am, luckily for me rediscovering the golden voice that is JR
Im surprised I ve not heard more of this terrific artiste - at times he reminds me of both Elvis and Tom Jones! Such a high calibre voice.....great song too....
What a magnific, soft andeducated voice, he can stand along with the best in his era, never to be shamed of his performances. God bless him for the messages sent to us.
Bumped into John at a shop one day and said hello sir. well later that year he got a knighthood so very deserving we were so proud he had family in tat when I was growing up
Hush, not a word to Mary She means the world to me Don't wanna lose her Oh, hush, not a word to Mary Don't let her know I stayed here with you Mary's gone visiting All the folks at home Kind of you to ask me around Knowing I'm alone A cigarette, a glass of wine A little harmless fun A cosy chat about this and that Never could hurt anyone Oh, hush, not a word to Mary She may not understand And she may worry Oh, hush, not a word to Mary Don't want her crying Over nothing at all Mary does everything Keeping me in mind Loving me so faithfully That constantly I find I think of her and long for her When she's not around I love her so, I'm sure you know I never could let her down So, hush, not a word to Mary Don't wanna break her heart All over nothing Oh, hush, not a word to Mary Show me the door It's time I went home
I grew up as a kid in that sleepy little town, Kawerau and we thort he wasn't anything special. My best friend at primarys mum was Cheryl Moana Maree. Wrote that one and Tania after his sisters. What a brother aye? I am now 58 and always smile as I remember being that cheeky kid poking tongues at him hahaha
Yes I didn't know till last week that john was from NZ I have very special memories of the two hits in the sixties I think if I only had time and hush not a word to Mary such beautiful and moving songs they were on the juke box in one of my favourite pubs and were played constantly I always loved to listen to them and wondered about the man who sang them the song's touched my heart and I still have lovely memories of the times I I listened to them and thought this Man who sang them was somehow very special to choose these two beautiful songs and sing them so well that he touched my heart all those years ago, sure he has a wonderful place in heaven and is still singing up there,God bless you john rowles you brought me great pleasure with your two beautiful songs.
Although John had the same writers as Engelbert and Tom Jones, and would have had as much success as those 2 legends, he chose to go to Hawaii and base himself there. Staying there for many years, although he enjoyed his time there, even he admits even if reluctantly that maybe it was not the right decision and perhaps he should have stayed with his original crew in England. Heard him give this talk on NZ television, but when one is young, good looking, talented and you receive an offer like he did to move to Hawaii, you take it don't you????
a Giant among singers,as yet to be given the recognition he so richly deserves. Fabulous !!.. His style and range are very similar to Tom Jones, but i think John has the edge on vocal technique, and timbre.
Chur Chur amazing..I was thinking is there a better kiwi voice but every time I hear him I find it tough to beat..eddy low bunny Walters ? Yeah nah this boy still carries the flame 🔥

Am 76 but brings back happy memories of my love for a special man, now gone. What a voice. Sir John Rowles . Magic
Gone? Why do you say he's gone? According to Wikipedia (usually fairly accurate) - he's still alive and 77 years old.
@@Olaf189 you misunderstand. My man has died not Sir John Rowles

My father used to play this song on his record player constantly when I was a child. I miss my Dad so much. Superb singer, New Zealand's Tom Jones.

What a handsome man! A great voice almost sounds like Tom Jones but with his own style.
My mom sung this.. and dad finished it..I guess that was love.
In between raising kids and paying the rent..both gone.. but I still sing this song...

Wow what a singer came a across this one tonight just as good as Tom Jones what a voice first time hearing his voice love it 😁
Chicken skin and eyes watering. What a voice! Impressive ease of control, with power that is not overwhelming and distracting, but used appropriately!

Hush, not a word to Mary
She means the world to me
Don't wanna lose her
Oh, hush, not a word to Mary
Don't let her know
I stayed here with you
Mary's gone visiting
All the folks at home
Kind of you to ask me around
Knowing I'm alone
A cigarette, a glass of wine
A little harmless fun
A cosy chat about this and that
Never could hurt anyone
Oh, hush, not a word to Mary
She may not understand
And she may worry
Oh, hush, not a word to Mary
Don't want her crying
Over nothing at all
Mary does everything
Keeping me in mind
Loving me so faithfully
That constantly I find
I think of her and long for her
When she's not around
I love her so, I'm sure you know
I never could let her down
So, hush, not a word to Mary
Don't wanna break her heart
All over nothing
Oh, hush, not a word to Mary
Show me the door
It's time I went home
Beautiful lyrics anderstand every word❤❤

Better Humperdinck and more interesting and more powerful than Elvis and his management team is corrupt to put him down

Here's a very beautiful song!!!!!
Great Singer.Awesome!
Great song, great voice. Why did he have less success than Jones and Humperdinck ? His voice is at least as good as theirs.
I think he did not have their ambition, as far as I have heard.
he was as good as the two legends you talk about!! brilliant singer and songs!!!
That has always puzzled me too begian oldtimer......he was as good if not better

Never had the recognition he deserved in the UK. Great voice, great songs.
Shot off to Hawaii and Vegas. Lucrative contracts. Also the climate was better, than in the UK.
Happy 70th birthday John Rowles!!!
A song that is bass guitar + strings. No wailing lead guitar. A pleasant combo,
and so effective.
A superb song by a superb singer. John Rowles was, and is,New Zealand's best.

Great song, by an even better singer. Slightly deeper voice than Tom J, but just as rich and powerful.
He's a far better singer than Tom Jones
