    New subscriber from the States. Thanks to Canadian radio, I heard these guys as far back as '88. Here's my top 5 ranking. 1< Fully 2< Up To Here 3> Road Apples 4> Phantom Power 5> Day For Night. Think "We Are The Same" is my favorite of the post-2000 batch. There's great stuff on ALL the albums. Great discography review. Would love to see an album-by-album breakdown from you. Any plans for a Sloan discography breakdown?

      Cheers, man - great ranking for your top five. They sure have been a rewarding band all these years.
      I have totally been playing with idea of a Sloan video! They’re a great band for sure, one of my favs to see live. Much like a lot of massive discographies, some LPs require a re-listen from me.
      I might do some album overviews for The Hip, there’s so much depth to cover especially for a lot of our favourite ones.

    I enjoyed your ranking. You’re confirming how I plan to approach this catalogue.
    I had Up to Here when it first came out and liked Blow at High Dough and New Orleans Is Sinking. But the rest of the songs never really grabbed me. I also found when hearing the popular songs, I couldn’t get into Gord’s vocals.
    But I feel the time has come to revisit this band and pick up three to five albums. Your top three are my first picks and in the order you ranked them. Then your 4 and 5 will be next. So those five are my picks.
    Thanks for your video!

      Thanks I appreciate hearing from you and I used to be in the same boat; i listened to them on the radio but was never enamoured with a lot of their album tracks. Now I love almost everything they put out especially the first half dozen.
      Much love!

      @@Redundant_underscore nice man! I’ll check some out when I get home and can truly take it all in. That’s great - the only time I saw them they played nothing but hits because it was a festival so I wouldn’t expect anything else but, man, would have loved to see another tour date with some deep cuts such as that one.

    Thanks for the ranking! Fun to watch. I lovingly refer to 'We Are The Same' as 'We Are Insane', despite some real affection for The Depression Suite, The Last Recluse and Coffee Girl. :) Every album from the 'Up to Here' through 'In Violet Light' is in a peretual battle for #1 in my head - so, so, so much gold everywhere. My #15 would be 'In Between Evolution', which I just find generally cacaphonous and grating. So interesting to see the different takes in the comments. Thanks all, for sharing your favourites.

      ‘We Are Insane’ is hilarious. Going to have to start using that. And, yes, I love the diversity of the answers in the comments. That’s what I like most about UA-cam. Since making this video, In Violet Light has been getting the most spins! So much gold in that first decade and a bit as you say! Cheers

    Nice stuff, Andy. I wouldn't argue too much with those rankings, and I agree with the top 3. I'd put Evolution and Up To Here a little higher. We Are The Same is the poorest by a long way, way to dull to be prime Hip.

    • @AndysRambles
      @AndysRambles  Рік тому +1

      Yeah it’s tough to rank the hip because they are always so solid (except most of We are the Same for my money), but I’d probably up those two LPs in the ranking these days to be fair. With all the greatest bands, the ranking is always shifting if just minimally. Thanks for the comment!

    Great video. While everyone says they are Canada’s Beatles but I think they are more like Pearl Jam. they could sell out arenas without making an album. After their first 3 albums both bands kind off went in different directions. But I also think most Hip fans don’t appreciate those albums as much. Where as PJ fans dig their new stuff a lot more.

    • @AndysRambles
      @AndysRambles  2 роки тому

      Yeah almost every fan I talk to irl hasn't heard anything after the year 2000 or so. Which is a shame, because they made good music until the end. I like the parallels you say between the two, people always say R.E.M. but your comparison makes way more sense.
