That's a really good question. Yes, the blue card is still a thing. Many merit badge counselors do not have access to ScoutBook and they're not required to. This manual system is still in place. The blue card represents partial and completed merit badges in an old-fashioned manual way. This is then entered into ScoutBook secondarily. Thank you so much for the question. YIS⚜
Scouter Stan, I have a question. I'm currently a prison nurse with access to loads of Deputies that would happily teach someone about "Fingerprinting", but aren't necessarily comfortable with the idea of becoming a full blown MBC. If my son (a Webelos currently) one day (in the years to come) decides he'd like to try for a Merit Badge in Fingerprinting, can he still do it if no MBC's for Fingerprinting are available or does he have to find an MBC specifically for Fingerprinting? Obviously, we can replace "Fingerprinting" with any of the Merit Badges that he may be interested in, can get expert training for, but aren't represented by an MBC for that particular field. Hope this question makes sense! Happy Scouting!
MBCs can delegate training/instruction to other field experts. Trained and registered MBCs are the only ones authorized to sign off on requirements for a merit badge. The MBC are responsible to make sure that the requirements are met and completed, in addition to all safety issues. Thank you so much for asking this question. I hope this helps clarify. YIS⚜
My son got his Eagle Scout back in 2010. Very little has changed over the past 11 years. I'm still actively mentoring Life Scouts and help out at EBOR for my district. YIS⚜
@@ScouterStan oh that makes It is sad that my original patoral came in with ten and I am the only one that became a eagle scout and I got the lasted start out if any of them in cub scouts. It us sad that all the others just gave up
Are the blue cards still a big thing even with scout book??
