This couple made a junior program comparing B/S. The choreo was simple, the jumps and spin were good but the lift was so simple and that fall decided all already. 5.9 for presentation in a program full of nothing was a joke, it deserved 5.7 and 5.8. Fortunately, scoring system changed.
@oofahman mooch flawless does not mean most technically difficult. If one team had superior program and makes a small mistakes it easily can get better marks (with a deduction) then a not as difficult (even perfectly skated) program of the competitors.
They should have been marked down for the fall, it was on the final move and final beat and it was still during the program. then they laid there, no way the judges didn't see it.
Not even close to Elena and Anton. I'm underwhelmed by this program. Interesting how Canada gave S&P a 5'8 for technical and a 5'9 for presentation. No surprise there!! What a joke!!!!
they both fell at the end of their short program, but got no deductions for that. that was a shame ...
JORGE LUIZ LIMA it wasn’t a “fall” technically. Elena and Anton weren’t flawless in the long program, unlike Jamie and David.
The fall was not in an element
These two above are really funny trying to make excuses for this mediocrity on comment after comment. I mean even if you find it in yourself to defend their love story, why isn’t there a judging scandal about the short program fall? The hypocrisy is mind-boggling.
@@1chienandalou Exactly!! If Anton and Elena fell at the end like that in their short like those two bozos i swear to god they would deduct that and complain about it and not excuse it as not an element! Anton and Elena were perfect in their short: difficult program, intricate, perfect timing, beauty, elegance, all of the above. They act like stepping out of a jump like Anton is a big deal when it wasn't; if Peltierr did that they wouldn't care and make excuses for them! Hypocrisy at its finest! B and S are the sole winners best pair ever in my book despite the minor mistakes!
I'd definitely give the Russians the win in the short.
oofahman mooch No they didn’t, they placed 2nd. Facts are facts
"Triple toeloop is as good as it gets" are you kidding me?????
Yeah they started to build the narrative up every chance they got. Girl we have eyes.
@@1chienandalou what a stupidly easy program with the dumbest choreography I've ever seen like what is 2:07 I was lmao on the floor. Horrible positions, little speed, flow, no footwork, and let's mention the fact that they have SO many breaks to take a breath for their next jump now let's look at the beautiful anton and elena who are all what the Canadians aren't. They are beautiful, passionate, flowy, and ballet on ice while doing a very difficult program never stopping! That's why I love them! We're they perfect? No ,but look at these two bozos who fell on their ending pose like WTF and made several mistakes at the 2001 worlds and won by some miracle when anton and elena we're near perfection with no mistakes! What world is this!
LOL, I know I nearly choked on my caldo when I heard that!!!!!!!!!
I like how Scott kind of calls them out for their shallow, weak footwork and Sandra cuts him off "they need to fill---" "WATCH THIS LIFT", wow..someone wanted to change the subject REAL quick.
anton and elena were better skaters, faster and more elegant. anton and elena were the true Olympic champions.
Until they didn’t skate cleanly in the long program. Rig judging gave them the gold
2 place? overscored,,,,,
Refinement aside, what's blatantly obvious is how they are about half the speed of the top pairs.
This is nothing compared to Anton and Elena's.
@oofahman mooch I have to agree with you, I find some of these anti Sale and Pelletier remarks are very exaggerated.
They never held a candle to them overall. But I support goals sometimes they scored better. This was definitely not their best outing despite these raid fans trying to comment over and over and every on video of theirs, not allowing any other opinion.
Shame they weren’t using the new system, then there would be no question who should have won B&S where faster, closer and had far more transitions than these guys
It was because of this Olympics, particularly this event, that the judging changed. Otherwise, we would still be in the 6.0 system.
While I adore B&S. Judging this event under the new scoring system does not make sense. It was judged under the 6.0 system so it should be scrutinized, using and taking into account the criteria they used under that 6.0 system. As a side note, if they actually used the current socring system, B&S would not even come out on top technically. Under the new system, it would've been Ina and Zimmerman who would've won the technical side of things; presentation scores would've been a different story tho.
While technically, B&S were far superior than S&P, they did have a glaring error on a major element in their LP and they weren't as connected to the music like they were in previous performances; you could see how empty Elena's eyes were in that LP performace and she wasn't into it as Anton was (pressure and nerves, most likely). Under the 6.0 system, the mistakes (however miniscule) and presentation are weighted heavily. It is actually the presentation mark that sways a skater's ordinals. And majority of that mark is based on your performance and connection with the music, the audience's reception to your program, and an error-free performance. Even if you get a 6.0 on technical merit but your presentation is just 5.7/.58 and you have a competitor that has a presentation mark higher than yours, you're going to be placed second even with all the difficult elements and transitions you put out there. Reason why Michelle Kwan was virtually unbeatable in her decade-long career even though she didn't progress technically. Reason why Sasha Cohen, even though technically and artistically superior to MK, was always the bridesmaid because she couldn't put down an error-free performance even though her programs were more technically packed and more difficult than Michelle's. The reason as well why Midori settled with second or third place in most competitions, even tho her competitors were technically behind her.
S&P did the easier LP technically (not sure what Sandra Bezic is smoking about them having the best lifts at the time tho), but they did put down a performance that got the crowd going and it didn't have any glaring errors. They should've won by presentation merit. I don't agree that they placed higher in technical against B&S' LP. They should've gotten almost the same or a tenth of a point lower than B&S. But they would've still won it with the presentation marks. Under the 6.0 system there is no way an error-free performance would rank lower, presentation-wise, against a program with a glaring error and a glaring disconnect with the music and audience. That's where the juding scandal truly happened. And that's why we're all here with the new scoring sysyem.
@@titoa8005 What are you babbling on about? Did you copy and paste this comment? Do you realize this is the short program? There is no judging scandal here.
There was never any comparison who was the better pair at this Olympics, neither at the short nor at the free. Keep clutching at straws though. I mean, they literally fell here. And even in your beloved free program, the Russians would’ve easily won with a bigger margin with your beloved new scoring criteria.
5.7, 5.8. I actually took a tenth off for the fall at the final position.
Music is "Tango Jalousie". The fall looked like part of the choreography!
@4:20 how is that as good as it gets, their out of sync by half a rotation.
I'm not saying they weren't great or that I can even imagine myself coming close to them. Just that it wasn't "as good as it gets". Elena and Anton were perfect on the short program, Sale and Pelletier were not.
How could they ever win any competition, not even mentioning their "true" gold at Olympic Games ???
5.9 for presentation. No mistakes but just ordinary.
no mistakes? they both fell - lost their ballance! Is that how one ends program at a competition? no way !
They were always so overscored and they both fell at the end which is a big mistake. Like most of their mistakes not deducted for though.
Their side by side toeloop was out of synch as far as I could see
I'm a Canadian AND a professional figure skater and I CANNOT stand this pair!
Thank you, they’re hard to look at sometimes
Nancy Doolittle AND AND AND
you are not a good patriot.
The commentators are so biased towards this couple, especially the female. I always liked Peggy Fleming.
Sandra Bezic...she's Canadian.
Wow. I already thought the so-called judging scandal had been completely made up by the Canadians, but I didn't even know they had fallen on the final move of their short programme... And then they whined and moaned about not winning because if the "BIG" mistake of Sikharulidze who simply stepped out on a jump?...
Charlotte B And S/P performance was undoubtedly inferior to B/S. Hearing Bazic the had the best lift on the competition was a bad sign.
Sophitia how stupid you are. Anton messed up on their side by side jumps in the LP and Jamie & David had zero mistakes. Clean programs should equal gold medal. In 98 Elena and Anton didn’t win because they weren’t perfect.
@@rolandgreen7484 Do not forget the fact Elena fell on a jump in the long program in 1999 and they still won gold and Anton fell in the short program in 1998 Olympics and they still won a silver.
@@rolandgreen7484 I doubt you are Canadian because your grammar is bad.
@@rolandgreen7484 you must have been blind watching 02 Olympics
Canada GOLD🥇🥇🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🏆🏆😁😁
Now, I will just try to make an educated guess.
I think what I am seeing here is that many people were especially paying attention to the long program, which can be remembered more than the short program since it is the last performance that occurs in this event. Maybe that is a reason why numerous people in America and Canada support this Canadian couple.
Also, maybe a routine does not have to be complex in order for it to bring positive results. Maybe routines with complex tricks can amaze the judges, and routines with less complex tricks can have judges blown away by the form and synchronization of each skater.
I have never understood why the fall at the end was such a big deal. It wasn't on a required element. The only question I have is on their lift, I have seen comments on his hands not being in the correct positions to support her in the air. Anyone that has knowledge...pls reply..
A bit late but whatever. That is an analysis of their free skate (and I assume those comments were on the FS bc I don't see that problem here) www.frogsonice.com/skateweb/articles/slc-pairs.shtml
И где они, ушли в пустоту, а Лена и Антон до сих пор великие
One of the great moments of the Olympic Games
What is the music called? I've heard it many times but for the life of me I can't remember what it's called.
Jelousie Tango

Вроде все гладко, но не завораживает, без души. Простите, но это правда. Все обычно.
breaking some ankles🏀😅. Nice performance ♥️
wow...how 10 years pass with just a blink of an eye!
Almost 20 years now 😀
Русские всегда будут на голову выше
And this is how you win an Olympic Gold. With whining and crying.
You got that right. That's exactly how they were gifted a gold medal.
....AND falling x''D
😭
@@eurocamp2541 Always the know it all.
Всё равно Антон и Елена прекрасные. Достойные на золото ОИ.
They did a really cool, bold and very artistic skate!! Great job Jaime & David!! 😉👍🇨🇦
They fell down and fight Russian for gold medals and won still shocked
They clearly were not the best. What a joke.
They were clearly the best whiners of all time, so yeah at something they were best.
Куда им да наших 😂🇷🇺🥇🥇🥇
They are such a great artistic pair !!👍👍👍🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🥇🥇🥇
I don’t see it
They are just athletes, she is particularly wooden
The Russians are better skaters.

The fall happened after they finished the actual skating. Any markdown for that fall would have to be very minor.
rowbom and yet that Indian kid at JGP Yokohama 2016 got a 1 point deduction for falling on his ending pose #robbed
Wow you are invested in this. Your after year coming back and putting comments on this drivel. It’s pretty clear other people get punished for this kind of fall. One would think it would’ve been a judging scandal if it were the Russians falling in such a situation 🙄
@@1chienandalou So you seem pretty invested in the matter yourself. I am just pointing out that the fall did not happen on an element.
0.4 points deduction for the fall supposed to be, but seems like the referees were so blind
Серые мышки! За падение получили золотые медали, позор!
Such a bunch of exaggerated remarks by people who want to carry on a hate campaign against this couple.
That is how they remembered by many people, s'all))
@@rolandgreen7484 why does it matter whether they are divorced or not. If you feel they are overrated then consider the fact the Russians won a silver in 1998 with him falling in the short and also won a gold in 1999 with her falling on one of her jumps
@@rolandgreen7484 Because the 1998 field “sucked” does that change the fact that Anton made a mistake. Regardless of whether they made one mistake or two, you cannot change the fact that she fell period !!!
@@rolandgreen7484 I am not embarrassing myself and I don’t have to take a seat for stating facts. And I did not forget that Sale and Pelletier made mistakes, but since you pointed out their mistakes why should I not do the same.
@@rolandgreen7484 Calling people a bunch of haters doesn’t mean I’m admitting that they disagree me.
За что такие оценки? Падение, никакого артистизма. Позорище))
The most overrated pair team in history bar none. Awful people too.
I guess it is easy to judge when you have not been in their shoes. It can be argued too that the Russians were overrated because they won a gold in 1999 Worlds and she fell on her jump.
