- The Fall, live Newcastle, England, November 25th 1983. I recorded this on Sony Betamax videotape, mono audio, after over 40 years the tape is still in nice condition and thankfully I still have a working Betamax VCR.

I love this channel! Big thanks for sharing :-)
Nobody could YELP like Mark. He sounds like human feedback sometimes.
The double drumkit line up of the Fall were especially good.
Fall Friday 😎🙌 You simply can't go wrong. Have a great weekend everybody. Smile!
Thank you! I remember watching this live that Friday evening. There was nothing else like The Fall in those days - there still isn’t today. Mark E Smith was incredible.
Thank you for sharing this.
John Peel AND Mark E Smith? Why, you're spoiling us Mr Ambassador!
1983 , The Fall . There was definitely some good music in the 80's . Great footage .
I remember watching this live.
In case the reader thinks this went out on some late night show, well it wasn't. This was Channel 4 at about a quarter to seven in the evening. A Friday. Peel worked for the BBC so it was unusual for one of their's to appear on a programme on a rival channel. Peel said he was glad to be there, said he wanted to go down in history as the man who got The Fall on TV.
The mighty Fall. Saw them in 1991 and 2012?, but would’ve loved to have seen them this era.
Peel and Smith. Two legends, without doubt.
I was just thinking about Mark the other day. Cannot believe that it's been more than 7 yrs since his passing.. Funny thing is I was at the second last fall gig ever held in Newcastle..
Incredible stuff. Like Peel used to say, something like "they stride across the world of music like a colossus".
I really loved them in the Brix era. I lost trackin the years afterwards, apart from one live show here and there. Always a pleasure.
Fookin' majestic. Take that, Indie sops.
Indeed.
Band on fire here.
WoW. Im hypnotized. Such a Gem. Just phenomenal. I could listen to the Fall till i die and one day more. thank you 🤘🤘🤘
Taped this at the time, still have the video in my loft along with loads of other Tube performances. My favourites were PIL, the Sid Presley Experience, Redskins, Iggy and a Killing Joke interview.
How could the kids stay so still?¿!!!
1983, and Mark doesn't look a day over 50
Utter shite & that was the point......y mistake for coming here..
I know, it's so bizarre. He's really quite young here, looks much older
@@matthewjdouglas6471 speed and booze will do that
Thanks for posting, haven't seen this one in a while. This is one of my favorite (if not most favorite) iterations of the Fall.MES is just shining with brilliance here. The double drums punish you with the beat, but because there's only one guitar instead of 2, there's more space in the music which let's it breathe and fill up with weird atmosphere and MES energy. A unique and really, really special time in their history.
Also - LOVE the dumbfounded looks of the audience. They have no idea what's being slammed into their brains or how to respond lol.
The best Fall period!
MES looking so cool. Tastemeister! Oh, and sounding brilliant!
Epic!
Live at the Witch Trials was fantastic! Thanks.
Great band!
Peel.had an obsession with the fall
The double-drums setup sounds incredible, I'm surprised more bands havent gone for it over the years. The only ones I can think of are TMF, Sigue Sigue Sputnik and ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dea.
I believe Adam and the Ants did.
Ich liebe Dich ScottishTeeVee, honestly.
1. Smile
2. 2 X 4
Interesting about the Betamax tapes. We, as young teenagers at the time, assumed VHS was better because of its ubiquity. Then I heard Louis CK, of all people, talking on a podcast about things of quality versus ubiquitous crap, from kinds of coffee shops to technology. And he said how Betamax was superior and gave a reason for VHS winning that I've forgotten, maybe pricing, or some other corporate tactic. Good channel btw. I loved The Tube.
Grin-ah!
Damn! Good footage!
Great stuff! Thank you!
amazing! thank you!
Fontaines DC should cover some of The Fall's songs..
❤
absolutely not that band sucks
What was the line in Renegade, the book by MES "That Elton John thinks he can get away with anything". With so many of the ex band members active now how about getting Elton John on vocals for a tour?
He might be game....
Superb
Superb-uh.
@@leebritnell2405 😄 yup
*_you edited out John Peel intro??? Say it ain't so!!_*
After seeing so many comments fawning over Peel, the moral of the story is: If you're going to abuse 13 and 14 year-olds explicitly taking advantage of their naivety and show off about it, make sure you keep your victim count reasonably low and you have impecable taste in music and you'll be uncancellable.
Every few years I revisit The Fall. I'm 64 this year, and I still think they suck.
Listen to them long enough and it makes sense - bit like Stockholm syndrome 😆I can totally see here why he liked Can.
At least you own the fact that you have no taste in music.
Let the butterfly come to YOU 😂
Wait until you hear Kanye West, Taylor Swift and the latest big sellers 😂
I think the seattle part of your name must have something to do with it. Give up and listen to Boston o The Eagles.
