Which venue do you like better? 🤔

    • @bytesizedx

I definitely wanna check out the Gorge since I've been to RR so many times. I love the venue bc it's so intimate but that also can cause issues with crowding 🤷🏽‍♀️ I'd agree that they can't be compared though, like apples to onions. I think if you've never been to Red Rocks it's worth at least one visit. Big Gigantic does their 3-d experience there and I feel like it's a venue that can offer some cool stuff if you know how to use the area right. Check out Tippers visuals from their last show there and you'll see what I mean!

Sorry, but you seemed to have failed, in all your Gen Z glory, to mention anything about some of the most important and crucial aspects of event attendance when measuring the "experience," it's like you don't really understand that the environment is the experience that formulates the value of attending the gig! The big question is "did I get hosed?" The answer is that if you go to an event at the Gorge, you will get hosed on everything because it is a LiveNation/TicketBastard venue! You will get hosed on ticketing process, cues and prices because you have to go through TicketBastard and will be paying inflated prices even before the insane handling fees. Then there are the insane LiveNation searches just to drive into the property, and that's only if the poorly trained staff get it done in time so you don't miss the show because you've been in a line in your car in 100° heat for 3 hours. Then there are the $27 beers, $8 waters, and other low-quality high-priced concessions. Red Rocks is run by the City and County of Denver and they run it very well. Tickets thru AXS, easy ingress egress, great staffing and impeccable sound. Me? I won't go to the Gorge if I'm on the artist's guest list, it's just not worth the hassle an more, though I have seen some great shows there before it's demise and takeover. I noted your festival list was missing ALL the smaller festivals that are supremely cool and have the vibe and ambiance that is really what you are seeking. BTW, I've made a partial list shows I've attended, worked and/or produced, check it out here: benschroeterblog.wordpress.com/

Good review but need to point out a couple oif things. 1) The Gorge is located in a desert not in the rainy part of WA. Annual precipitation there is only 8.1 inches. Sure its in Washington state, and western WA rains but large parts of central and eastern WA are considered deserts. Summer concerts at The Gorge are often very hot (100+) and very clear and dry. 2) Spokane is pronounced "Spoke Ann" :)

Yup. And even Seattles rain is overblown. It rains many days out of the year, but not very hard.
To put in perspective, Arlington Texas gets about the same amount a year. Only thing is Seattle its spread out over 6 to 9 months, while Arlington the rain season is only 1 month.

@@206BenJammin That's actually a good thing, you don't want people around you drinking a bunch of alcohol. I started going when it was first getting popular, around 1995, guys getting drunk, tossing bottles at others and just being an annoyance was an issue. It's much better controlled now, and a much better experience.

Honestly I prefer the Gorge, it's bigger and has more room for production stuff (i.e. numerous levels of truss, Imag LED panels, lighting etc). It also seats 2x as many people.
Red Rocks is more intimate, it is a great venue as well. I saw a bunch of shows at the Gorge, one of the best was John Mayer and Keith Urban. Absolutely amazing.

I have been to the gorge so many times. I finally took my kids to see Tame Impala at the red rocks. People ask me all the time which one is more beautiful and your right its not a fair comparison. Red rocks is beautiful but its like going to dinner and a movie. You are minuets away from a Walmart so you don’t feel like your secluded and is so much smaller than the gorge. The red rocks doesn’t have festival seating like the gorge. At the gorge you can put 15 thousand people on the floor right next to the stage. At the red rocks you have seats all the way to the stage. And the gorge is more like an experience. You are miles away from anywhere so you pile the car with all your friends and pack the tents and the coolers and spend the weekend. And at the campground you meet the coolest new friends. I hate to say it but after going to both i pick the gorge being the best for beauty and experience any day!!

I've seen some amazing things at the Gorge.
So as everyone knows it rains a lot in Washington.
So the sunset was spectacular as the clouds rolled in.
The hot air was blowing up from below the canyon.
It started to poor cat & Dogs but wait.
You can see the rain poring down but then is swept away by the hot air blowing up from the canyon, it was pretty magical to see.
    We all stayed dry.
A lot of people don't know about the hiking trails below the theater into the canyon.
No easy feet for most, must carry a lot of water as the temperatures can easily rise into the triple digest.

I've worked at the gorge for years and I love it to death. I've had the pleasure of seeing Dave Mathews band, Mumford and Sons, Tyler the Creator and Tame Impala. But red rocks looks so much more personal since it is a smaller venue. I haven't even been there yet but for that reason alone I already like it more. Plus I've walked unholy amounts just to get to my car and back to the gate at the gorge.

Don't worry I got you bro haha.
The Gorge can be very intimate, in my experience, if you compare say, Coachella to Bass Canyon; Bass Canyon feels much more intimate because its a tighter circle of people. It feels like you're with family. Everyone is there for the same kind of music, and everyone wants to see Excision do his thing (among other Dj's).

Just saw Chris Stapleton at the Gorge last weekend. My first time at this venue and it has been a while since I visited Red Rocks. Although Red Rocks seats only 9000 I felt like the Gorge was just as intimate even with a sold-out Stapleton concert with probably at least 27,000. The view at the Gorge is the great separator between the two venues in my opinion.

    Illenium at the Gorge 🔥🔥🔥
As someone who was born and raised in eastern Washington state, the gorge is not in the middle of no where and it’s not that far from civilization. It just feels like the middle of no where because of all the farm land.😅Also, it only rains a bunch in Western Wa. Eastern Wa is actually quite dry and desert like. The sunsets are amazing over here and you will never see stars like you do in eastern Washington or experience all 4 seasons every year. Ive been to a dozen venues across the state and other states but the gorge is by far, hands down, always the best venue!!! ❤

Never been to the gorge (top of my bucket list) but been to red rocks many times. First time, we arrived late, so we parked at the bottom. The hike up was an ass kicker. But we had just moved to CO, so the altitude adjustment hasn’t kicked in yet. If you go to RR, go early and try to park in the upper lots, or take advantage of uber/lyft drivers that go up and down the roads.
I’m sure the spiritual experience is the same at both venues.

Oh buddy do it, the George is much less of a hike once you're in the venue; and no stairs. Plus the amphitheater is covered by a sprawling grass hill, much more forgiving than the oversized concrete steps of RedRock. Though the hike from GA camping to the venue is about a mile. Go with Gold camping when you get the chance!
I would Recommend Going to Bass Canyon, even if you're not a fan of, or unaware of the music scene.

Red Rocks and The Gorge are my two favorite venues in the USA and I’ve been to a lot of them. To me Red Rocks is hands down the best music venue and it’s not even close. But The Gorge has a festival atmosphere where you can camp all weekend with your friends which is a ton of fun.
Of course, where your seat is can impact your experience. I’ve had assigned seating in the front, center at Red Rocks, so you can sit or stand and dance in the best seat in the house, without having to fight for space. That’s better than anything The Gorge usually has. I’ve been in the PIT at the Gorge, but you have to stand all night and jockey for position (I guess they could setup seats right in front of the stage at the Gorge but the seats are tiny folding chairs which are too narrow so you don't have enough room). The top of Red Rocks has a great view of Denver and even the farthest seats aren’t that far from the stage. The top of Gorge is a huge lawn with a great view of the gorge but you’re far away from the stage up top. It’s hard for the 27,500 capacity Gorge to compete with the 9,500 capacity Red Rocks. You’re never that far away at Red Rocks, it’s a more intimate setting.
Red Rocks is so cool and has such great sound because it’s a natural rock amphitheater. The setting is just gorgeous and spectacular. It’s like a cathedral for music and you're right in it. The Gorge has a beautiful view behind the stage but the venue is more just a wide open hillside and the view is off in the distance. You're not in the middle of spectacular rock formations like at Red Rocks.
Some of my other favorites: Hollywood Bowl, Greek Theater Berkeley, Frost Amphitheater Stanford, Saratoga Performing Arts Center (in the pavilion only, the lawn is terrible), Bethel Woods Center for the Arts.

I just got back to AZ from seeing deadmau5 from the red rocks. I enjoyed your video. Do you have videos of the shows you went to. I’ll look into it.

Nearest hotel to the gorge is not an hour away btw. There’s literally hotels on the other side the fence😂😂😂 plus 6 more hotels not even 15 miles away.

From Seattle live in Denver, Gorge in George is the best by far….not even close.

The gorge is just amazing. It takes alot more work to pull off the gorge. I booked an air bb for this years dave shows last sept . But when your in the pit Area, it felt like I was at the musical universe.

Red rocks for sure number one. The sound is great up against the hollow red rocks. Also I don’t care for open big areas and the sky line view.

Red Rocks was better before they put a locked door at the end of the trail thru the rocks in the upper south lot. Now it’s just a dead end not a free way into the show

I live near Seattle but I'm moving to Fort Collins which means I'll be 60 minutes to Red Rocks. There were three women who died, crushed by a boulder traveling home after a Keith Urban show at the Gorge. The State of Washington had to completly redo I-90 to stop any more carnage.
