In my younger years when I was in my 20s 30s and early 40s, my ex-husband and I did not sharpen our knives very often. Whatever came with the knife block. Now I use something similar to the AccuSharp knife tool sharpener from Walmart. I got at s farm and feed store, Seems to work great because my knifes come out sharp. But I sharpen my knifes as needed. I don’t let them get so dull they don’t cut and I injure myself. I know some people have their knifes professionally done. If I keep up with them as needed they are sharp for a long time. I’m not a professional sharpener. Great video. My knifes are kitchen knives not professional knives. Not the fancy knives
Take your knives to a professional. The AccuSharp and all of its offshoots are actually designed to ruin your knives so you purchase more knives. That's the reason they're sold by every major knife corporation. They are ruinous to the health of your knives in the short and long run. If you go and get a professional sharpening by someone who does it correctly (on stones, a wheel, or on high-grit belts), you'll find the difference between what the AccuSharp produces and what someone at a professional level produces to be so vast you never go back to the AccuSharp. It is my sincerest belief that everyone deserves sharp knives and it saddens me that so many people have never had them because they get a factory grind on their knives, then purchase one of those awful devices. A professional sharpening will preserve your wrists, your knives, and will improve the taste of your food.
To learn buy knives from thrift store and practice. I get Henkels made in Germany for $2-3. Sharpen and give away. I have gotten Gerber, Cutco and other fairly decent knives because people give away to goodwill rather than sharpen.
Yes, I have mentioned many times in the past. Thrift stores or yard sells are great places to find knives to practice on. There are plenty of nice knives just needing a fresh edge.
@ I have to tell you one of the sharpest knives I have received out of the box is my Genesis 2. I tried to cut a hangnail and it bit me slightly. I can get my knives hair whittling sharp but that was on another level. I wish for a 3 with inch longer blade😁.
