- We are sitting in the middle cab (firemans's side) of M8 #9119 on the 8:07AM (Saturday). The area between Larchmont and Harrison is a highspeed zone so the engineer had no problem getting these new cars up to speed. I filmed from Larchmont to Mamaroneck. Enjoy! (Taken 12/10/11)

I ride M7A express trains on the hudson line all the time, and they go about 70-75mph and this is definitely faster than that! It's 90 for sure, and that's Metro North's speed limit for everything along this line, even Acela's
@suzzex M8s are cleared to go way faster than 90MPH. The speed limit in the area of the video is 90MPH in the rule book and I ride the same train every sunday. In M2/4/6s we easily hit these speeds as well.
The wind
@travelsonic It was wrong for me to assume the cars were going 60 MPH. I was new to railfanning at the time of the comment, but I know better now. :)
Is this a one time thing or are M8's always on this train?
"I highly doubt he got this train that fast."
Trains hit 90 in this zone regularly
"You can also see cars on I-95 running about 15-20 MPH slower than this,"
So?
Unless you know the speed those cars are going, how can you come close to figuring out the speed of the train [assuming the guess is accurate to begin with?]
".the cars are capable of speeds far greater but they are somehow limited because our speeds don't warrant going faster than 90."
Computer based speed limiting? Don't know, but I'm guessing that is one solution to why in spite of the fact that M8s could go over, they can't as you say.
@FL9AC Ohh, I see what you did big boiiii.
90 MPH? That's the M8's maximum speed. I highly doubt he got this train that fast. You can also see cars on I-95 running about 15-20 MPH slower than this, so I would say 60-70 MPH is much more accurate for this train.
Your math is giving me an Aneurysm
No, their top speed is 100 mph
@FL9AC Bro...it's jut a joke. And don't talk to me like I'm a newb, I know how they remove flat spots.
Now they are shitboxes. They have flat spots.
