I don’t blame you. I’m a clarinetist but when I played this piece at a band camp for the first time the trombones just SLAYED that part. I’ll never forget this piece.
The final “breakdown” (3:50) is probably my favorite part of this piece. The low brass take the stage! The Tuba and Bass Trombone, adding the Euphonium and 1st and 2nd Trombone into it. And later when all the Trombones can just “blast” (4:20), sounds fun! Of the course Tuba, Bass Trombone, and Euphonium are still in the background along with the rest of the ensemble. Anyways this entire piece is awesome. Saw the Clovis Wind Symphony play this a few weeks ago, and it was awesome to hear in person.
I played this just this past weekend for a band camp, and OH MY LORD!!! It was my favorite song, especially 3:50! When that part of the song was played, each section that played stood up to represent the layered music between each section! The brass part BLASTED their hearts out on that part, and I loved hearing it, even though I’m a clarinetist. It was lovely, and I enjoyed every bit of practicing this song!
I got to play this in my school's honor band last year on upright bass (playing a tuba part) and it was honestly the most fun I've ever had Still mad that my director didn't let me play it on bass guitar though.
Phenomenal piece. I watched a high school honors band play at BGSU in Ohio last weekend and their performance of this was unbelievable! They did the song tremendous justice. I had to listen to the original to see just how good it was in stereo headphones!
I just played this song about a month ago at a high school band camp, and OMG! I fell in love with it the first time we played it. This piece also kinda reminds me of Short Ride in A Fast Machine (if anyone knows what that song is…)
@@liamallen2156 hey that’s okay! This kind of music isn’t for everyone! I’m not kidding tho when I played this song even my conductor said it reminded him of Short Ride.
this song is a masterpiece, we played some of it in our marching band show and it made it so much better, i don't know what to say it's actually just incredible
As a trombone player, 4:20 is the greatest thing to ever be composed for my section. Absolute masterpiece of a song

As a percussionist who got to play kit during the breakdown, this song was very VERY fun.
Omg the electric guitar + the low brass in this song made me spontaneously combust 😭🙏
I was so sad when our conductor took out the guitar part, I was gonna play it 😭😭😭

I played this at the a high school All-State festival - I loved this piece!
This song is by far my favorite in concert band. I wish we had more low brass, the "breakdown" would sound so much cooler. 10/10 song.
I just got done playing this piece at my all state band in Indiana through the band masters association it was such an amazing piece to experience
The Alabama all state band is playing this as well and as a tuba player in it it’s an amazing piece
i was in that all state band too! i just came back to check out the piece again, what section were you in?

Short Ride is fun. Not a huge fan of minimalism but it's pretty wild.

A year later and I realize this song is really hard to conduct 😅 I’m forgetting those switches to 3/4 and 5/4 like crazy! 😭
This piece was an absolute blast to perform, both to play, and to listen to live

We played this at Tennessee's 9/10 all state conference! Fire low brass part. I am curious, however, as to what grade this piece is?
