This channel is the whole reason why I even started a saltwater tank. I hve a few fish in there but hopefully can work my way up to building a reef. Much love and appreciation 💯
nice vid. I dose Red Sea A/B but not sure if it actually works! lol There was a time when I was going to follow the whole program but man, its a lot of things to dose and test for. Like you say stick with the main 3 and actually testing for them is a great start. I have a brand new bottle of Nopox and its there as a last resort for me. My main filtration is skimming, filter rolling and media. Tried the refugium but couldn't grow anything apart from cheato which has now died
Good to get some pointers about what are the essentials. As a follow on to RedSea Starter Kit, I have only the KH/Alkalinity Foundation (B) powder and NoPoX. So if the Start Kit was 1.0, I'm at about 1.5 and I'm reminded that the other two Foundation products are to follow soon. If Hanna produced a test kits for owners, getting one for vodka might be (for some) a good thing to evaluate? Simon
Awesome video, Just subscribed! Red-Sea program looking like a good care for the corals but its just too expansive. Plus there is too many bottles and charts to follow..., So if i wanted to automate my dosing for example - I'll probably need two 4 heads dosing pumps to keep up with all the essentials, trace and NoPo-X. Can you please make a video about the popular available dosing methods/brands, Pros & cons And explain the benefits of each method/Using specific brand and so.... i've seen so many brands and methods that i just lost it!. Thank you💋
Thanks for this video. I am dosing Kh and Mg but not Ca as my tests showing I don't need to. I have a nano tank, so would the weekly water changes be enough?
If your tank is consuming alkalinity and mag, it will also be consuming calcium. But probably not much if your tank is small and you don't have many stony corals.
Thank a lot for all your videos! Before we start our reef tank we watched all of them and it was a huge help! I have very specific video idea. Ethical side of saltwater tanks. Google didn’t help me much (especially with lack of English knowledge). Some fishes you cannot breed and because of our aquariums they are almost gone in wild. Have you ever done any research about that? Thanks a lot and take care!
The red sea foundation elements (Ca Kh Mg) didn t go well in my aquarium, it was HARMFUL to my corals. I went back to the 10% weekly water changes method and they are back healthy
If that's all you add, no. Corals need the foundation elements most - but if you have soft corals, you won't need as much. Best to test your alk, calcium and magnesium
@@ReefDork what about a scarlett, I'm scared he will become too aggressive and bully my more timid fish on my stock list, so I plan to add him last, I'm currently running a aqua one 120 mini reef :), still using stock lights as my tank is no where near mature enough for corals its about a month old with 2 clowns
I add to many frags at once and made nitrates go up to 80! I am sure reef roids had a lot to do with it. My alk also droped to 7, and I do weekly water changes on my 36 gallon. I have never dosed before but an going to start uping alk and using nopox. I actually have more frags coming! Smart right? hehe. I actually won some of them plus got carried away buying because my order was on hold for 3 weeks and they were having ebay auctions and a live sale. I just couldn't stop! lol Now I am not feeding corals and want to start a little at a time. Do you think instead of reefroids I should try the reef enegy? You said you cant overdose and isnt it sort of like food? If not, do you know of a coral food that dosent effect nitrates as crazy as reefroids? I hate that my acans arent fluffy but evrything is doing fine and still opening On top of this I just got new radions so switching lights to add even more stress!.
Have you ever had any experience with the Hanna HIREEF 2 Pro Test Kit? I saw a video on it by BRS TV. Heres the link ua-cam.com/video/E6-iyjSZIWs/v-deo.html . Great video as always!
I have the Hanna alk and salinity checkers - they're great. But I didn't get on with the phosphate checker - I found it too difficult to get all of the reagent powder in the vial. Never used the calcium one.
Moved over to seperate redsea program now after struggling with all for reef.great video!

Thanks man, good to hear 🙂
Thank you for the information you are always giving every week it has been helping me a lot I just hit 100days on my first reef tank🤘
Nice 👍 keep on reefing I take a 1 min video of my tank every month to see how things are growing
Love the vid, especially the vodka part, hillarious!!
As always Alex, loads of real good advice and info 👍👍

It is an efficient program but I have been testing out tropic marin's all for reef
When I finally figured out the right amount to add I was all out of vodka.

Awesome video! I would love if you also made a video about the "Triton" dosing
I don't know enough about Triton, but I'll be doing one on their rival ATI Essentials Pro soon 🙂

Ati essentials Plus is hard to beat. 2 bottles does calcium, Magnesium and alkalinity plus trace elements and gives a good pH boost.
@reef dork how many fish do you think I could have in the Red Sea reefer 350 G2? thanks
Depends on many factors but probably around 15

@@ReefDork Ok thanks bud, I will keep my eye on it and look at dosing calcium as well. Especially when i start to look at introducing sps

Prestige Reef has done a good video on that subject - ua-cam.com/video/6VKEga2ueh8/v-deo.html

I dose red sea reef energy AB+ for corals, would that be sufficient?

Merci pour ta vidéo !!! 👍👍👍
Would you recommend a hawkfish for a 30 gal?
Depends on the hawk. It's at the bottom end of the size requirements for some but should be OK.

A pygmy hawk maybe a flame or longnose but you have to watch out for small shrimp and cras
Crabs
If you are worried about aggreasion only the pygmy is an option and likely takes out all goby options later on
Well, you had to test the quaility of the vodka! LMAO
Was that digitat hydroids in the rowaphos reactor?
Possibly yeah
I've seen a couple of ur vids now were u mention how quickly ur corals grow u ave some fine coral do u frag and sell them??
Yep, all the time. I've got a full frag rack most of the time 🙂
@@ReefDork hi Alex do u ave a selling page of frags u ave for sale?
Do you dose your coral nutrition AB+ and do you refrigerate it?
On and off the yes. I keep the bottle refrigerated and keep a week's supply at a time out of the fridge and in my dosing pump container
Duuuuude! WTF UA-cam! I didn’t get a notification.

Red Sea say it shouldn't make a difference to nutrients but that you should watch out for any increase. But yes, reef roids are phosphate in a tub!
