  • Today we're recapping the Speaker of the House ordeal which saw Republican Kevin McCarthy face 15 rounds of votes before he was finally elected. We discuss why some Republicans were pushing back against McCarthy, and what (very good) concessions he agreed to in order to get the votes he needed for the election. We look at Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries' speech in which he misuses Scripture to argue that Democrats are doing "good." We beg to differ. Then, we'll use our vast knowledge of fashion to break down a few fashion looks from the Golden Globes. We discuss Jackie Hill Perry's recent decision to speak out against the Enneagram, calling it demonic. We explain the Enneagram's New Age origin and why it's just a distraction from our identity in Christ. Finally, we look at a Reddit post from someone who identifies as a Trans woman claiming that he despises women because they're... women. We explain why this has become more and more common and why this needs to wake people up.

    I worked for a Christian non profit fair trade company and the boss and her daughters who were also the managers RAVED about personality tests. Yet they were the worst people I ever worked for. Always fighting, sarcastically rude. Yelling sometimes screaming, picking on people, they were vile sometimes. That’s when I realized personality tests are just excuses for sin. Maybe they help, but sometimes they are used to call sin “my personality”.

    • @LGJiG
      @LGJiG Рік тому +15

      That was my EXACT thoughts about personality tests. I was also turned off by the fact that it would be easy to go against God’s will for your life because “that’s not my personality”. Slightly different scenario, but God called Moses and Moses didn’t feel qualified because of his stammer. The Lord knew he had one and called him anyway! We can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens us in spite of our perceived shortcomings.

      personality tests are useful but like all things have limits. you wouldn't say fasting isn't useful just bc you kept sinning. they're are not a panacea for all work problems. if ppl have terrible character like those you described, personality tests are not designed to fix that.

    • @Sooner-im9qf
      @Sooner-im9qf Рік тому

      Sorry you experienced that. No one deserves to work around such negativity. Those people you worked with sound like they may have had a lot of unpleasant character defects. But a personality test is just a tool.
      If those not very nice people were using the tool as some kind of handy excuse for their bad behavior, they were MISusing the tool as a way to avoid owning up. But then, that happens a lot with not very nice people. Sad. I worked in a similar place one time.

      My pastor is teaching a leadership class and has introduced us to the enneagram. We spent the first 5 weeks reading "The Road Back to You". I'm now aware, thanks to my own research, just how evil its origins are, and I'm really concerned about the members being led in the wrong direction. I want to discuss it with the pastor, and I'm not sure how it's going to go.

    That last segment hit me. Pornography is absolutely evil and I hate it so much. I used to be captive to it as a teen but God delivered me from it. The discontentment from men so unhappy and hating themselves is so sad. Only the Lord’s redeeming love in the Gospel can help them. I pray they hear the Gospel and that God would soften their hearts to love Him

    I'm so glad to hear you talking about the Enneagram again. I had felt strange about it but couldn't put my finger on it until I happened upon your last podcast about it. I was astounded by the information you shared about its origins. I brought it up to my Christian friend who had introduced me to the Enneagram (as well as my reservations about Yoga), and it led to the complete unraveling of our years-long friendship. She couldn't see why either of those things could be evil because they "helped" her. It was wild. I absolutely believe those types of things give Satan a foothold, and it really shows when people get so weirdly defensive about it.

      You are so correct! I’m Catholic and I had a Catholic friend basically get turned pagan and the crack was yoga. She got more and more into yoga and then started doing very very strange and pagan rituals. She has finally realized what happened and has stopped everything yoga and turned back towards Christ. It was crazy though how quickly she was able to start turning her back and not knowing how deep she was getting.

    I’ve never heard of it until 10 years of being involved with the church and having being involved with new age practices in the past and being a psych major, red flags went up when I was introduced to it. The Bible can also teach you your weaknesses and strengths if you have enough courage to pray for God to show you those things.

      A lot of times people think that things in their personality are from them. Instead they are demonic influences. When people get delivered or have strongholds broken or over come sin, their entire personality changes. ADD goes away, depression, anger, addictions, OCD, fear, and so much more dissappear. I experienced deliverance and was shocked to discover the quirks of my personality didn't even belong to me. It feels good to be free. Jesus set me free. Don't get comfortable with bad personality traits. That's exactly what the enemy wants. Be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Take on the personality of Christ.

    How interesting and timely to hear your thoughts about the enneagram as well as Perry's. I'm in a wonderful group of godly friends who seek to support one another's walk with Christ, but there is a great diversity of training, maturity and understanding in theology and doctrine, etc amongst our group of 8. I'm concerned about the enthusiasm of some of my girlfriends in this group about the enneagram. They really enjoy "typecasting" themselves and asking others to do the same through this (in an effort to understand ourselves?) but I find that the more Christlike I seek to become the less I want to "type" myself at all. Those letters and numbers make me feel rather stuck and pigeonholed, and your talk has helped free me from feeling as if I'm behind the curve of coolness amongst my friends due to not wanting to get into that! Thanks for this!!!!

      Personality paradigms can be very helpful in understanding how God makes everyone different and the types they can be categorized into. However, good Christian teachers have already been offering these from decades ago without the demonic origin. These have been known and useful for decades: Myers -Briggs, Tim LaHaye's books on personality types (yes he wrote stuff long before he was known for the Left Behind series, he's a psychologist): the Spirit Controlled Temperament and other related books on the four temperaments; Florence Littauer who has done the same. And finally Larry Burkett who took the same four temperaments and used much easier labels for those four than Tim Lahaye used. These are even based on ideas coming from centuries ago in Europe and on observing temperaments showing in scripture. Those authors are merely using their wisdom and intelligence to observe human nature the way scientists study creation to find the laws of physics. No supernatural origin is tied to any of those authors' teachings and nothing theologically off about them (I'm sure their ideas can be abused theologically and otherwise). But apparently the authors of the enneagram are definitely claiming otherwise for their teaching's origins. Stay away!

    People need to realize that categorizing people as “leftists” is also demonic and making it seem like it’s “them”. I think the whole point of this being pointed out is that people need to stop putting others in categories democrats and republicans is modern day Jew and gentiles and Jesus was not with any of it. If Christ didn't teach it then it is false doctrine. Can't get any simpler than that. People need to study His teachings in the Bible for themselves and stop listening to others. This is the best defense against deception yet so any Christians just won't do it. They want the church to tell them or some motivational speaker selling books and tapes to tell them. They want to hear the teaching of Christ from anywhere else but the Bible they so dutifully carry. It's crazy. Read ...the....book! (and keep the verses in context)

    My issue with rejecting anything created by occultists is that are we going to throw out all the Greek inventions or inventions by other religions ? Enneagram tools are just diagnostic, they arent the whole truth of our personality nor are they standard for our lives. I dont think there is anything wrong with being mindful of the things in our flesh that we need to submit to the Holy Spirit.

    The main problem with personality tests is our own mentality: Do I use the result to limit myself to that type, making exuses for everything I cannot do because it is not who I am, or do I use it to understand where I am at now, so far in my life, and to push through the limits?

    I had no idea what the ‘enneagram’ was until I heard it mentioned at the ‘ONE Conference’ which a friend had invited me to and paid for me to go. Jen Wilkin had made a joke about being an enneagram X number wing some Y number, or something like that. Then a year later I heard some Christian co workers mention it. It reminded me of those personality tests that are very Jungian, so naturally, I researched it and found out about its origins with some guy and also Claudio Naranjo and his ‘channeling’. 🤔

    The enneagram looked like a weird star (similar to the witchcraft ones) which gave me a weird uneasy feeling. Now I know now that the enneagram is demonic. I just repented for using it. I won't be using it again. I don't need a test to tell me who I am. I will listen to God and follow Him only. As I grow in Christ and get older my personality changes and I become more confident in Christ. That is all I need.

    The Enneagram is a system of personality typing that describes patterns in how people interpret the world and manage their emotions. The Enneagram describes nine personality types and maps each of these types on a nine-pointed diagram which helps to illustrate how the types relate to one another.
    No where in that definition does it say anything about worshiping demons. Like what are we doing here ?

    I think it’s important to know ourselves but not in the way that culture and society dictates. In my journey as a follower of Christ, it was necessary to know what He has called me to do and where He wanted me to go BUT I didn’t discover my “real self” through personality tests, what helped me was knowing God, His love for me and all the people around me.
    So I agree that it’s in the coming out of yourself, Jesus was on point when He said that those who lose their life for His sake will find it.

    Okay, we can add anything to things and say, "Lo and behold, tis Satanic!" On the color wheel, I see a wheel of color and the blended colors in between. If you try to draw lines in that pattern, you will eventually come up with an enneagram. So before we demonize a color wheel, be sure this view is applied to all things in a circle graph. Even the 3 primary colors or a pie chart. Look, you can't make everything fit a narrative either. I get the other views but for hell sakes, not all things are purposely an enneagram. As I bring colorwheels into my home, I will find comfort in knowing none of them had demonic spirits attached to them.

    I think things like the enneagram are so easily accepted because the spiritual influence tends to be hidden in the creation of it and not in the practice. No weird or odd names are attached to the enneagram like astrology or other things in that vain. So when people see it they see it as more of an intellectual and common sense practice opposed to it being the creation of people involved in divination and witchcraft. Truly the only remedy to issues like this is to be as vigilant as scripture instructs us. To all of those brothers and sisters in Christ who used the enneagram please don't get down on yourself for using it but instead be encouraged that the Lord has been faithful enough to use His sheep to reveal the truth. God bless. Love y'all.🔥🔥🔥🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾❤️❤️❤️

    The Bible states in Ecclesiastes that there's nothing new under the sun. Never heard the term "enneagram" until Jackie and you. As someone a bit older than both of you, it's the same stuff just packaged differently from years ago. I remember teaching on the Otter, Beaver, etc personality traits for fun in Ice Breaker activities. Now there's a cult following that includes these things....crazy, lol! But on a sad note, it just goes to show you how Satan will continously pervert simple things to make them become "lords" over people's lives instead of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. All those personality tests never changed my life for the better. It was knowing what was wrong in my personality that did not align with God that I needed to yield that changed me! The enemy always takes us down lanes to then make things worse emotionally and mentally for us....which is what is happening with transperson. Instead of him being happy and at peace with what he does have with himself, he gets constantly aggravated worrying about what someone else has naturally. The jealousy and hatred is strong in this perversion and he doesn't realize how he's being played to lose his peace.

    I studied the enneagram for almost 9 years and became very knowledgeable about it before my conversion to the True Faith 3 years ago. Like most things the devil does, it offers a seductive but grave evil (gnosticism, taking oneself to be divine) disguised under the appearance of a good (self-knowledge) that humans would naturally seek with pleasure. And it does this by offering something that would otherwise be harmless (personality type descriptions).
    At its core though, the enneagram is fundamentally at odds with the Christian (especially, Catholic) understanding of the human person, which is of one who is wounded by original sin and therefore cannot redeem himself and is in need of a Savior, and of grace and mercy. The enneagram tells us that mankind IS divine in himself and simply needs to wait until cognitive biases and fixations to subside on their own, so that man’s own divinity can be realized. This core message is hidden, not obvious right away to someone reading type descriptions, making it easier to want to become more indebted to the enneagram. Some authors (such as Sandra Maitri) imply quite covertly that the enneagram runs parallel to Judeo Christian beliefs.
    The enneagram looks like the True Faith in that it urges people to practice virtue and eliminate vice. Not so much for repentance’s sake, but for the sake of self-divination. It gets a lot of these wrong though, and leaves out the most important, SUPERNATURAL (i.e. above our nature) virtues (Faith, Hope, Charity). The enneagram tells us self-denial, for example, obscures our self-divinity and lovable self, when Christ told us to deny ourselves daily!
    I think people are drawn to this aspect of the “self-help” and mistake the way it taps on our natural desire to live a virtuous life for the enneagram actually “helping” them. We need to be very knowledgeable about Christ’s words and their meaning, so that we can speak in a convincing way against the very deceptive and seductive draw of the enneagram. Simply saying it's "demonic," although true, won't convince people to let go of it, it needs to be debated and deconstructed from its core principles (or lack thereof).
