I do all, ALL, the laundry for me and the wife on Monday mornings. I clean the bathroom on Tuesday, the kitchen on Wednesday, the rest of the house on Thursday. Outside on Friday, Saturday I take the wife out for supper and Sunday Church. Nuff said!
Remember when we said IF shtf happens? Now everyone is saying WHEN! Ahhhh, the good old days!!
Central Maine 12 inches, haven't even taken care of the downed tree from last storm, husband recovering from heart attack. So thank God for all the preps we had.

One more thing to add, I always make sure on trash pick up day, all the trash and recycling go out. One thing in the city you don't want to have extra of, is garbage, if things go bad!
I bought a burn barrel to burn all of my paper & cardboard so trash doesn't pile up if the SHTF.
#6 When you are going through and organizing your gear, also make sure it is in good working order. I have found gear that was no longer functional that I would have relied on if SHTF.
#7 make sure your USB items have a good charge on them. A dead USB flashlight is of no use.

One thing I have learned over the years...NEVER put/leave batteries in flashlights, headlamps, radios, etc in your go bags. They will not only not work if left for months at a time but, the corrosion of the batteries in the device will ruin the device in some cases. Use tape or ziplocks or something to put the batteries next to what you need it for in the bag.
Someone like me who lives alone and has virtually no friends; and family members have or will be moving away, makes doing these "preps" very difficult if not impossible.
LAUNDRY, ALWAYS! A water main can break like it did for us last Summer. Any storm being called for and I run for the washer! I always have plenty of laundry products on hand and now are stocked.
One thing that I must do and should have already, is get the 'black out' drapes up.
I have a journal with ideas on how to use prep-foods and recipes because I just may not be here or capable.
Yes. In fact, having all the laundry done is the best 2.5 minutes each week!
Nearly time for spring cleaning, prep rotation, shifting clothing and into warm weather needs. Get ‘er done before the gardening season hits and you have no free time.
This video is a must watch. We just received our NOAA weather and emergency radio. It's a crank, electric, battery or solar. We can charge our cell phones using the solar if necessary.
We have one of those. We need to 'recharge' it while we can, but at least we have options!!
That’s the biggest issue for us, is storage, we have things in the shed, garage, under the house, upstairs attics, every closet. I’m not sure how to even begin inventorying things.
Procrastinating is my best skill! LOL I have worked really hard to change my behavior to do it now not later. Having a comprehensive plan and knowing where your stuff gives peace of mind! I made a schedule to keep everything done chore-wise and I have a check list to hold myself accountable. I have a "where is it?" notebook so if I can't find something, I can look it up and go right to it. No worrying about forgetting something important!
I'll never feel 100% ready for everything, but I think I am prepared for many of the known issues in this part of the country.

The question and major unknown factor is what will "SHTF" actually look like. Some would argue that the Pandemic was a (soft) form of SHTF. I somehow managed to get through it despite not being prepared.
I bought simple locks for all my windows, extended screws to redo the door hinges as well as door locks. Just gives us time to get a weapon of choice before someone gets in.
Currently we are on a 5 days rain storm here in TN and their calling for 5-7 inches of rain, which is a lot, I’m so sick of rain.
Thanks for the reminder that I need to pull together my here/there SHTF items that I've tucked away in whatever empty spot-battery operated radio, solar charger for phone, etc. I'm needing a lot of expensive dental work - it's been a matter of saving up but I also didn't prioritize it like I should have. I really regret letting myself end up in this situation. I can't help but think what if SHTF for real with all the craziness going on out there, and I couldn't get any work done, regardless of available funds?? So heads-up to anyone out there who's also putting it off. Nothing worse in a survival situation than bad health we could have done something about sooner. ❤

Make sure everyone in your home knows how to do simple cooking, & that they know basic first aid, & you have some cash somewhere, & all your household knows where it is too.
Make sure all your family & Pets have all their medical needs well stocked up.

We are adding a removable hoop house cover for our large raised bed to get these giant tomatoes I grew in. It will come in handy for a late fall or early spring garden crop. I’m going to make some of your meals in a jar. Have you made any sausage, potato jar meals? I’m going to go through your play list.
I always have a running list going for preps. Today it was face wipes, body lotion, rice, pressing n seal, I buy multiples of each. Stocked up on meats and potatoes too. Never ending. Filling lanterns this weekend before this eclipse.

These are great tips! Thank you for sharing. Keeping the house picked up is essential and also, keeping all exit points (windows and doors) free from clutter.
Really good idea, I mean looking mine are, but something to really out on your prepared list. Great suggestion.
Part of the notebook binders, is to make sure you have all your contacts from your phones handwritten down, so in an emergency if you lose your phone contacts you can still get to some landline or emergency phone and make a call.
this is only useful if your "contacts" actually have landlines. Otherwise, it's pointless if your contacts only have "mobile" phones.

You have to be feeling WELL in order to prepare your home, so make health a priority. Eye doctor appointments for new glasses, dental cleaning, chiropractor, etc. Stock healthy foods, vitamins and maybe hand weights and a jump rope to stay fit. Don't forget to take care of yourself! 🤓💪🍎🥦

We always keep our bathrooms clean. Especially the tubs, in case we need to fill them up with water!!!
Thank you for the reminder. I am spring cleaning a room at a time. Yesterday, I cleaned the living room top to bottom and today it's the bathroom and kitchen. It was overwhelming to think I had to do it all in one day. I'm 65 and a bit slower than I used to be. Thank you again for reminding me to get off of my rear and get er done😂
Laundry is always done - dishes, though, bleh. LOL, but dishes are easier to do grid down than laundry.

Thank you for this fire that you're setting under me, Jinne. Right now I have a bunch of dishes in my sink. My back is out but I think that it's starting to improve tonight. I'm hoping that tomorrow I'll be close to being back to normal.
Yeah...good storm huh? This same Nor'eastah as you said, took out power for many. I saw a news story yesterday of people trying to find gas for their generators, having to travel around to find it, a guy who was interviewed who talked about how much gas he's using for his and how expensive it is to run it. The story is titled "Mainers struggle to find gas for generators amid widespread outages".
A guy had to drive from Topsham to West Bath to find gas! It talks about long lines at gas stations and how it's a regular thing for people to keep driving to go get/find gas just to keep generators running.
Generators are expensive to run for any long period and yeah...you gotta have the fuel and the $$$. Meanwhile I think about propane heaters, woodstoves and storing power in batteries.

I try to keep Drinking and Cooking Water Separate from the Cleaning Water.
I have Cats and Wash n Save the Litter Jugs. I put water in them for Cleaning and Toilet Flushing and Drinking Water in a Different Containers and Location. Nothing like Using Drinking Water for Laundry, Dishes or Bathing.😊😊.
It may sound Silly, but, nobody wants to waste Drinking Water that way, hopefully.
Good reminder, thank you I've got enough drinking water stored but never even thought of water for flushing, cleaning and laundry. Although, I do have a large enough property that in a real SHTF digging a hole in the back yard is a possibility rather than flushing.

Hi Jinne, heard your governor is inviting in people to your state to view the eclipse. They are saying on the news that any state where people will pour in to see it will increase the demands on your local water, power, fuel for your house and vehicles, even grocery store stock and restaurants so good to prepare ahead of time to have food, water and your cars fueled up ahead of time before the tourists can deplete your area. Great tip to know to be organized and know where you can find things in an emergency, no one wants to hunt for a flashlight when the power goes out.
I need to get some flat boxes so I can store some canned goods under the beds, my cabinets are full.
Make sure repairs are getting done. We have been putting in so much money to get things together (major systems, as we will be staying put). Something to consider, we are currently waiting for the last part for a plumbing repair. Its been two weeks, it is a ten dollar part. Staying on top of the house, this 100%, everyone in the house knows the plan. Dishwasher gets run, laundry is going, vacuuming (not sure why but I do). Really excellent video for sure one to share.

So important to prepare.. very sad that many disregard this as bull. I've tried to help friends get prepared but their mindset is something I cannot change. In winter we all prepare to winterize our homes...same thing now so I so appreciate all information. Thank you Homestead and all comments from informative preppers.

I cant even get my husband to plant an apple tree. I do everything.
I use a felt-tip marker to write the "best by" dates on every can/package of food that comes in...for example: 12/24 or 5/25 etc. That way it's really easier to rotate everything!!

Yes on notebooks! We have two three ring binders where printed copies are stored. In SHTF you probably won't have access to the internet. We recently bought extra wicks and oil for our oil lamps, and we check our battery charges monthly. Heading to the pet food store tomorrow for food and litter - I like to keep 60-90 days on hand. IDK if anyone else had trouble finding canned pet food during the lockdowns. And I'm due for a tetanus booster so should get that done. We have an inventory list - printed. Extra lighters or matches are good to have on hand: if you need to light oil lamps, candles, or bbq grill, you need them! We always keep car gas tanks at least 3/4 full. Thank you for the reminder about laundry: we're retired and typically do laundry every couple of weeks. I should probably change that to weekly. Great suggestions!
Families can do 4+ laundry loads PER DAY- clothing, towels, bedding, etc. 😲

Is flour and dry foods better in vacuum sealed or mason jars?
I prefer glass, but if I vacuum seal in bags, I always double seal in case one seal let's go.
I vacuum seal....after I freeze flour and pasta/ rice/ beans.
I vacuum seal in jars. Rodents never get to it.
@@robertbedell3355 yeah Jars are good just thought maybe jars for wet storage and bags for dry, can store bags in a big tin so rodents can't get in just wasn't sure which was better
