Nice to see you both chipper snd cheery in this episode after past segment travails 😊
Thank you. It was a trying time given the weather we had, but I think it would take _really_ bad weather to freak us out after some of the stuff we have had 😊
Nothing like: fair wind the RLNI, Dolphins and good sunsets to make a good and exciting sail, 2 out of 4 not bad. Looked like a nice trip.
It was a nice trip until it was too dark to film 😄 after that it got lumpy and we were in no rush so it was anchoring time!
I didn’t like the sea state when I left Malahide for Ardglass in early June. I thought about sheltering in Skerries but because I hadn’t moored there before I didn’t take the chance that it may be difficult or unsheltered. So I ploughed on! One if my most uncomfortable journeys.
I was on the inside of Rockabill….you must have had a considerable voyage to get in.
It took us 2 hours to get back in, but it was better than being thumped all night. We had hoped that with the wind being somewhat westerly, we would have had a reasonable sea state.
Hard to believe over 5 years since your Howth debacle aka run over tripping line. Where's that time gone?
The area north of Lambay is lethal for lobster pots. You did well getting into Skerries in pitch black conditions
The "Headlight on a stick" saw a lot of use. We had hoped to miss the pots by staying out in deeper water but the sea state was not overly pleasant so we ran through "pot city" 😄
@@SailingYachtSaltyLass thankfully pot city seems to be on a grid system which makes it a bit easier to predict
@@WavedancerWesterlyfulmar - never knew that. I thought they just dumped them fairly randomly...
Lovely to see the sunsets. Sounds like August was bad weather everywhere. At least we had a sunny and warm July, unlike you two. 🇨🇦
Oh we had warm days too... it just blew a lot and rained a lot, but we could tell it was summer because the rain was warm 😄
You should see today's weather 😄😄😄😄😄
Sailing in the dark can be hard. Last week I ended up with my dinghy wheels caught on a mooring buoy in the Menai straits. It was kind of my own fault as i forgot to push them up when i was towing my dinghy. Luckily I hit reverse fast and managed to pull it up and remove the rope. Then I had a nice crispy cold sail to Rhyl solo.
We sail in the dark often enough that we have a number of strategies for doing it. Oddly enough, being further offshore is often safer as there is more chance of snagging something close-in to the shore rather than 10 miles out. Our issue was a very lumpy sea and there was no reason for us to endure that so we just came back in. We have a powerful light for looking ahead and well off-shore you can see a surprising amount in the dark.
Having said all that, we prefer not to sail the Menai in the dark. We have done the run from Conwy to Beaumaris in darkness but I doubt we would ever try the Swellies 😮 Good to hear you had a good run to Rhyl 👍 It is too shallow for us so we have never been there.
Rhyl is no good for a fin keel :(. I dont normally tow my dinghy but it was that cold last week the top of tbe boat was froze solid Night ssiling is great though, i love sunrse and sunser. I was also suprised to see dolphins near the Orme.
I hope to sail to Dublin next Summer for a pint of Guinness.
Go for it 👍 But bring plenty of cash - it is a capital city and has prices to match...
Can you make a Video about the construction of the Solar Panels?
Thanks
We already have two videos about that - Episodes 104 and 104

@@SailingYachtSaltyLass , Thank you very much I will see the video.
Where did you anchor? Doesn't look like Ardglass to me.
Skerries north of Malahide. We stopped in Ardglass the following night but did not film it.
@@SailingYachtSaltyLass Thought that might be the case, but at dusk you seemed to be heading north at a good rate of knots. Did you turn back?
Yes. As we said in the vid, the sea state came up and we took a beating about 10nm offshore. We had hoped that the offshore wind would not kick up a sea but it was in the mid-20kts and the sea was bouncing. Around 0100h we turned back and within a few miles things calmed considerably so we kept on and dropped anchor in pitch darkness.
Thank you, ladies. Perseverance and good humour personified! Very best wishes.
Thank you and thanks for watching and commenting 👍
