This was Scott Proctor's last ever pitch in the major leagues. He went out by eliminating the Red Sox. For that, he should go down in Yankee lore forever. (I'm not a Yankee fan)
AnEternalEnigma your a moron, they didn’t lose on purpose; most asinine thing ever! Can’t except a loss, or a simple conspiracy theorist. ?!No proof number one, number two, they wouldn’t blow a win to prevent another team (rival or not) to enter the postseason, that’s the most ridiculous, stupid, asinine, dumb comment.
The very next year Scott Proctor moved to Doosan Bears, a KBO(Korea Baseball Organization) team for a new opportunity. His 35saves(Ranked 2nd) led the team to the postseason. Unfortunately, in Semi-Playoff Game4 he became Bears' last pitcher of the whole season giving Lotte Giants winning run in bottom of the 10th(Giants were leading the series 2-1) just like this video.
What made this such an incredible night for baseball was that it was like the gods were controlling it. Everything from the delay of game to extra innings that lined up the endings of both games perfectly. The Rays only Franchise player ever getting the winning HR. I mean even the winning run for the orioles came off Carl Crawford's glove ( a career Ray until this very year). It will probably go down as one of the greatest endings any sport will ever have. Not to mention the Cardinals comeback in September was equally as incredible as the Rays comeback and they ended up winning the world series in an amazing fashion as well.
This was craziest night in baseball. Definitely a God intervention and miracle all in one night. Red Sox were about close the game and head to the playoffs. Rays were one strike away from packing their bags. Then, the Rays tied the game. Red Sox blew their lead and lost. And Rays came all the way back from a 7 run deficit to head to the playoffs. Insane
Same with the Cardinals and Braves. Braves choked a 9th inning lead and Carpenter pitched a shutout to lead the cards into their inevitable World Series run.
As a Yankee fan, I was rooting against my own team for those 3 games because we didn’t have to win anymore games, having already clinched the #1 seed in the AL and the 2nd best record in baseball to only the Phillies, while the Rays were battling to beat out the Red Sox for that wild card spot in the AL and I dislike the Red Sox and Phillies the most in baseball and both equally.
+Mark Conner I'm not saying they are underrated but they came back from 9 of 10 seasons in last to 2008 and then all the success it is amazing but now, yeah we suck
This was hands down one of the best moments in sports - ever. What makes it so awesome, is that the outcome was so improbable ... they Rays have some serious magic when things get clicking ... this night was amazing!
And, almost 8 years to the day, Nate Lowe (another third baseman) hits a 2-run walk-off HR to the EXACT SAME SPOT to give Tampa Bay a 1-game AL Wild Card lead.
Still, almost 2 years later I cannot believe this happened. You have to appreciate the Rays' tenacity, they never gave up even when the odds were stacked against them. They have a habit of playing the underdog come September, and hopefully this year they can hoist the commissioner's trophy. I will be rooting for the Rays since my team (the White Sox) are having a horribly disastrous season. Go Rays!
2:00 I love how the camera pans to the crew getting the locker room ready for celebration. You know those guys were stunned that they were really putting up the plastic that point in the night
Other than the red sox winning 4 straight in the 2004 alcs against the yankees, I haven't seen this much magic and pure epicness in any sport game. Unbelievable
God...I don't know why I'm watching this. As a die-hard Red Sox fan, I cried myself to sleep that night. I was 11. So many questions. How could Papelbon blow the save? HOW COULD THE YANKEES BLOW A 7-0 LEAD(I refuse to believe anything other than they lost on purpose to this day)? How could THAT line drive ever be a home run? It's like they designed the very edge of fair territory to have a lower wall specifically for that ball to be a HR. It didn't look like it ever cleared 20 ft.
12 years, two championships, three ALCS appearances, and four AL East crowns, and this night STILL makes me want to puke. The silver lining is that I’ve gotten to see the Red Sox eliminate both the Yankees and the Rays twice each since then. One each happened in the same season.
ThomasWoodenTrains1 actually that's more like a 5 foot fence lol. I've been on the field right near that area when there was a baseball camp there and I was about as tall as it
Im a passionate Yankees fan and im wasnt pissed that this happend in fact i was kinda happy cause the Red Sox blew a lead that could make their buds the 2010 Bruims laugh. And we knew we were going to the postseason
I'm a Rays fan and live in New Hampshire and must I say the Red Sox are one of the most hypocritical fan bases I've ever been around. They say the Yankees buy out players, so do the Red Sox!! I hate the Red Sox the most of any team in the MLB. Yes they've been successful but because they can buy amazing players. The Yankee and Red Sox should ALWAYS be in the World Series but the Rays with a low payroll can compete!!! I'm happy to be a fan of a truly small market team. Red Sox are NOT small market. I like the Yankees much better than the Red Sox.
Red Sox fans need to realize they are the Yankees now their curse is over they're no longer the lovable losers they won in 04 07 and 13 idk if that's a dynasty but that's pretty close, but they are what they hate they're just a Boston version of the Yankees. Also I'm not a fan of either team just what I think
The Red Sox spend money we don't deny that but they don't just spend money like the Yankees they actually draft and develop players and don't always trade away their prospects unlike the Yankees
I'm a jays fan and it's the offseason where we decide if we become a big market team or we don't re sign anyone and suck and remain a small market team.
I'm a Braves fan and coming back to watch this incredible 2011 Day 162 stuff still stings for the obvious reasons. But seriously, LOL at all the "fans" who left in the 7th inning. The Trop is half empty when the Rays win. I hope they still feel like shit.
For the 12,000 in attendance im sure that was a huge moment, it's just a shame that a moment like that didn't occur in a town that actually cares about baseball. That would have blown the the stadium up in over 2 dozen cities but nothing in tampa. Shows what a sports city they have.
Did you watch super bowl 55? Tampa is built on sports we just dont like baseball as much as hockey or football because tropicana field sucks and is way too far away lmao
Same with the 2021 stanley cup that place blew up like crazy, tampa is literally only a sports city, it is known for nothing else, baseball is just not as meaningful to us as the others
I was rooting for rays 2 win bcuz i wanted red sox out. I watched this game till the very end. Great game. Sadly they lost to cardinals another great club that was doing well also.
He's having a good year, but he's still far from his prime/days of being worth 6 WAR but yeah he's still a valuable player. He definitely should have been the Rays all star rep.
as a rays fan... i will never forget this moment
Greatest baseball game, month of games, and hit I'll probably ever see
The UA-cam Rays I still get chills. Just listen to the crowd explode once it clears the wall!
If you are a Rays fan this moment made you cry and scream in joy.
As a Sox fan, I will also never forget this moment.
Dude you're a Rays fan AND a Union fan? There must be only 2 of us on the entire planet lmao I'm a fan of both the Rays and Union also XD
This was Scott Proctor's last ever pitch in the major leagues. He went out by eliminating the Red Sox. For that, he should go down in Yankee lore forever. (I'm not a Yankee fan)
3 years later, but Girardi was without a doubt on orders from the FO to tank this game so Boston could get bounced.

He caused his own demise.
The Greatest Night in Baseball history.
+Michael Horvat true dat
Not even close lol. Rays made the playoffs here just to get ousted in the 1st round.

@@imPiddle why do people talk about the Sox choking more than the Braves?
The Red Sox deserved to make the playoffs. This was all a mess.
@@IWantToMature85 Because the Red Sox had more of a lead then the Braves did. Especially in the Al east.

That has got to be the lowest left field porch out of any ballpark today. Fenway's right field porch comes close.
Disembow1280 It was meant for Crawford so he could easily rob home runs i believe, and he also fumbled the ball in the Orioles winning hit that night.
+Joe Pavlik Yeah, except right field at Fenway is 380' from home plate, not 315. What a joke.
And yeah, I'm still salty.
Greer Fried Fenway is a fucking piece of shit.
cuz tropicana field is a freaking DOME, you idiot.
So is Rogers Centre in Toronto. What's your point?
I think the Yankees just lost on purpose to keep Boston out of the playoffs.
Most likely this was a meaningless game for them and that's why they didn't bring in Mo when it was getting bad in the 8th
Umm please shut up. The Rays and Yankees are rivalries too. Have you been to a Yankees Rays game?
+The Kinetic Kid the Rays consider themselves rivals with the Yankees, Yankee fans do not. Tampa fans have a hate for New Yorkers
Everybody has a hate for New Yorkers
