Our ocean is at risk from all different sides. From destroying deep sea habitat with the advancement of battery systems to derelict fishing gear and industrial overfishing to fast fashion and agriculture, the ocean as we know it is threatened.
We need to work together to stand up to these leading ocean killing industries by electing political leaders who care about our future. The future is not oil and gas, it is a clean climate ready system that has the ability to adapt and overcome.
The industries mentioned in this video are just the tip of the iceberg in terms of industries negatively affecting our ocean. The ocean is the worlds largest carbon sink, it provides over half of the oxygen we have in the atmosphere, and provides life, habitat, and food for so many species including our own.
How are you going to stand up for our ocean and say no to these harmful industries?!
At the end of the video, Joe mentions the top polluting country and the top polluting company. The Philippines was named the top polluting country by Meijer et al. in 2021. However, Meijer et al noted that many high-income countries generate large amounts of plastic waste but are either better at processing it or exporting it to other countries, in which it does not count as their pollution. The United States and many other high-income countries are known to export their waste to the Philippines and other countries in Southeast Asia. Wherever you are from talk to your political leaders about reducing your counties waste and not allowing them to ship off your waste and pretend like it is handled. We must be responsible for the planet that we live on.
