Hi Jenny I have one of these, great loco lots of presence especially at slower speeds looks the part old and grumpy 😠
I bought one of these...a very nice model.
I have seen the ROD's, here in Australia... They are housed in the Richmond Vale Railway Museum, located near Maitland, New South Wales.
The museum fell victim to a major bush fire last year, where a lot a irreplaceable historic railway kit was destroyed. Thankfully the steam locomotives survived.
The ROD's were privately owned by South Maitland Railways and were used to haul coal.
Cheers
Are either of the Australian RODs in working order? Do you know what their history post ROD was?
The RODs in Australia were imported by J&A Brown, which later became Coal & Allled Industires.. The South Maitland Railway did hire one or two locomotives in the 1970s, but the SMR never owned a ROD.They are pretty much in ROD condition including the Gorton style chimney. At this point none are in running order.
A work college drove RODs around Swansea in the 1950s and he did not think much of them. They were restricted to 30mph and were very rough riding compared to the xGWR28xx/2884 series, but as they were primarily used for coal drags, speed was not a major issue, unlike the 28xx which were also rostered for fast fitted freights as well as mineral trains.
The cab rail is a problem, and I have secured mine with CA/superglue, which to date seems to have fixed it. On a club layout in Geelong, the ROD performed very well, so if you like Goods engines, then the Robinson 8K 2-8-0 LNER 04s are a good choice.
Very good review,
Regards from Australia.
I can’t believe some of the things hattons have been flogging of recent. The prices have been fantastic! The ROD is a real bargain. Great video as always 👍
Thanks! They have had them in stock for years so I guess they are trying to clear warehouse space.
I have the 3000 class, Robinson 04, P Class and a Dean Goods for my Railway operating Division locomotives. I haven't done the conversions yet for my WWI layout as I am working on scenery first. It is 00 and 009 too. I have managed to identify appropriate ROD numbers for each locomotive. They are all nice locomotives. PS I also have a Robinson 04 in Khaki numbered as a ROD in Train Simulator :)
I really do like the 8K/O4/3000 class. They have a real presence. I believe that Bachmann have announced a ROD liveried one to come out this year. Oxford Rail are also bringing out a ROD Dean.
@@JenniferEKirk I have seen them both. They both look good but I am going to add my own numbers. The Dean Goods will be in Khaki I believe and pull the massive gun. I think I will stay with black. The black locomotive looks good.
Hi thanks for review! I still have to take my one out of the box ,hopefully this weekend 😀👍
Jaco
You're welcome!
hi Jennifer i love your you tube channel so informative , i have just started collecting /running model trains again and i was wondering why Wren locos where so expensive ???
Mostly down to their Hornby Dublo heritage coupled with very low manufacturing runs. There just aren't many of each loco.
Happy New Year 2019 Jennifer.
Thanks!
Good review
ROD 2-8-0 s in when operating in Australia. I think from their working last days 1971-73, on the extensive Richmond Vale colliery line. :

I love this rare coverage. Hope you find this of interest. Other 2-8-2T locos built not a million miles from you, and still in normal service until September1987. Regards
