This is crazy, i play those chords everyday with out even knowing they are called chromatic mediants😂, i need to learn theory! Thanks alot Warren! now I can play them more with some knowledge about what am playing
I’m mostly self-taught and I totally agree! I’ve been playing for 20 years, and I realize that a lot of what Warren has taught (as well as others) I’ve been doing for years, but I didn’t know the theory behind it.
I agree 100%! This is the best explanation of chromatic mediants on the net! He took it from classical to neo soul! Warren has a very wide background and understanding of music.
Thanx for your videos Warren!! The exemple on "amazing grace" is on point, i'm gonna do it as an exercice to practice all tones. Humbly, Ravel and Debussy are "impressionism music" (end of 19th century to 20th) and Tchaikovsky "romantism" as you said, at least it's what we learn in France. Much love, thanx for sharing knowledge !
MAN MAN MAN MAN!!!!!!!!!! YOU ARE *****BRILLIANT***** - You are the BEST teacher I have seen and I have been searching piano tutorials for years. This video is like GOLD!! Thank you so much for sharing your advanced knowledge and skill for others to learn, it's so valuable to those who need it. Take care and Lord bless.
Once again thank you so much warren for this piano channel its like I won the lotto with this channel anyway is it maybe possible if you can make a piano tetorial of holy spirit fills this place by Martha Manizi im not sure if the surname is spelled correctly but ja can you please look into it warren
I am studying this video for two hours straight... It has a lot of interesting voicings and many other stuff... And what made me come here is transcribing "Stairway to heaven". They make this movement right in the beginning of the song, when they use D major as a passing chord to get from C to Fmaj7. The song is in Am. I am so glad to discovered this and you helped me understand the concept even better! Thank you! Greetings from Serbia
This lesson was super helpful! I knew roughly "how" to use chromatic mediants, but this taught why it works, which better teaches how to apply the use. Thanks!
Excellent explanation of a deep subject. Some of this was over my head (okay, half of it was over my head) but I think with some practice and several views of this tutorial I'll have an understanding of key modulations that I've sought for a long time.
Piano Lesson with Warren praise where praise is due dear sir! And your teaching skills are really good - learned a lot on how to teach from you. But no way, will I ever sing like you. Wow!!! And without preparation, you just start and hit the notes and harmonies! Amazingly (no pun intended) graceful
Really well explained. Made much more sense than there other videos on UA-cam about chromatic mediants. You are a fantastic teacher the way you describe things. I appreciate your skill.
Dude, just going your channel earlier this evening and I've binged your videos for like 2 hours. They have already cemented my knowledge of music theory topics I've had struggled with understanding. God bless!
I'm more an bassist/guitarist, not that good at keys/piano, but man - this video opened my mind! Thank you so much. Also that second keyboard visualisation and highlighting does a fantastic job to understand what you are doing! You have a new subscriber!
Love the way AND the speed you explain the things. I am thrilled that i found you...along with bass, piano is the most beautiful instrument of the universe. You'll see me sticking around😍
Took me some time to understand chromatic mediants but it’s such nice theory to add to my music knowledge and see if i could use it . Thanks alot Warren
Had to watch this a couple of times to ‘get it’ now I have, thanks to your brilliant explanation and examples - especially that neo soul vibe! Really grateful 👏🏾.. thanks.
Very very helpful. I'm working on my understanding of these concepts for use in my progressive rock guitar compositions. Your explanation and examples really advanced my understanding.
Thanks so much for this video! I've watched like a dozen videos explaining this and still couldn't fully understand it. I had to rewatch your video a few times too, but I finally figured it out! Your video was the least confusing one! 👍 I'm a guitar player as well.
Love your videos ! Thank God for your vids it's helped me heaps with my playing ! You explain it & show it in a way that I can understand 🙌🏾 keep up the great vids God bless 😁
Hi Warren, many thanks for the lesson and for taking time to add to our vocabulary. Thanks for your courses too, you are one of the best players and teachers on UA-cam. I was wondering if you are going to do courses on how to be an auxiliary keyboard player, like learning to play behind the main pianist using different keyboard voices. I would appreciate it if in the future you create a course like that. 👏 👏
Omg! Warren you just transformed my musicality and life experience exponentially! Now I have a deeper understanding of opera, classical gospel and neo soul! You da Man! I'll have to send you an Edmonton Alberta, sunrise or sunset. Where do I send the photos?
Hey Warren! Can you make some tutorials about skills and accompagnement, runs and rifts , and some improvisation skills , it will be very fruitful !!! Thanks😁 And i really enjoy learning piano with you Thanks🙌🏻
Excellent lesson, Warren. Especially good is the practical application of the theory. Minor point - Debussy and Ravel are technically Impressionist, not Romantic...
Vico Re thanks for watching, and yes I’m very much aware of Debussy’s and Ravel’s technical period - I sometimes miss things while on camera. Never the less, the technique is employed extensively in their music.
@@PianoLessonwithWarren Hey, you've inspired me to go back and review my music history for mediant modulations. I'm pretty sure Wagner used them, and Dvorak, too. Maybe Mahler? Also, in more contemporary context, isn't the beginning progression in Yesterday by the Beatles considered a mediant? Also I think Creep by radiohead?
Vico Re yes, yes, and yes, 😊 your music history is definitely on point. The chromatic mediant I believe really started in late classical era, even probably with Mozart (I’d need to review that) but definitely with Beethoven. Then the romantic guys ran with extensively, most definitely can be heard all over Wagner’s symphonic works. Beetles and Radiohead also used it - Radiohead pulled a lot of inspiration for “classical” pieces.
Hi Warren! Nice video! I learned the chromatic mediants that have no common tones to the original key as doubly chromatic mediants. Have you ever heard this?
