    Why I chose Rhino?
    1. Low price for a permanent license
    2. Amazing plugin development support and flexibility
    3. GRASSHOPPER!

      @@hanselxyb5825 yes bhai. I bought it for my startup. My experience so far with Rhino is that it is more of a toolbox/swiss army knife rather than a CAD software for designers. The possibilities are limitless but there are very few ready made tools to do actual CAD stuff. Also, there is no operation tree like you see on the left side other CAD softwares like Solidworks. So if you want to edit one operation that you did 4 steps ago and then rebuild other subsequent operations, based on that change, its not possible. Also, zero assembly and constraint options. So we do not use Rhino for Mechanical CAD. That's why there are plugins (not free) like RhinoCAD for this sort of work. From my limited experience, I have seen Rhino used mainly by 3 fields: CAM, Architecture for surface development and Marine Engineering again for surface development and writing and visualizing custom FEM solvers. Also in Aerospace companies and research centers where they cannot afford CATIA. I have never seen someone use Rhino on its own. Its most likely that they have some custom script implemented in Grasshopper or have written their own plugins on top of Rhino.
      As for what we use Rhino for in my company, its CAM. My company makes composites 3d printers and we need Rhino for slicing mold surfaces to plan robot motions. Grasshopper is great for that. However, if you are good at programming (C++ or C#), Rhino is perfect to develop your own CAM plugins since you have the entirety of Rhino's backend exposed to you through Rhinocommon. You can actually make great looking and functional software on top of Rhino's backend. Like you can literally discard entire's Rhino's UI and functionality and write custom tools specific to your task, put a fancy UI and easily make it look like a standalone software. This is where Rhino interest the most because apart from FreeCAD, I have not seen this kind of freedom and flexibility in another CAD software.

      @@PurushNahiMahaPurush Of so basically its for CAD students ? Can Rhino be used for Animation and Modelling like blender and Maya. Sorry bhai, I was looking for cheap alternatives to some expensive software. I know some basic Java, I guess I'll have to dive into C++ or C#.

      @@hanselxyb5825 you can model with it but would need another software for animation. If you are going that route it is better to use a different modeling software for more artistic modeling/sculpting.

    I use Rhino for creating jewellery models. I must say I like the program very much. Sometimes it can be a bit buggy with surfaces and when you use the Boolean functions but for the most part, it works great.
    What I like the most is that you are always in "Command" mode - you can use the UI to find and select tools but you will quickly pick up how to type the commands that make you access the tools quickly. Also that it remembers which tools you use the most so they appear first if you start typing a command.
    I came from 3ds Max and Rhino was my first CAD/NURBS software.

      Hi! Great conment. I came from 3Dsmax too.? I remember at the begining of learning rhino it was very difficult to understand how Command are executed. Once I get to know it I was able to keep focus on learning surfacing rather than strugling with interface. And accually to build advanced object you don’t need to know lot of commands. I gues about 20-30 is enouht to become pretty advanced. Crusial is how to use them efficiently.

    Hey! I am a mechanical engineer, so far only working with 'classical' engineering 3d CAD software. But I am learning Rhino now because I want to get more into industrial design. I just started one day ago, some tools are kinda familar when you come from Engineering CAD, some are completely different. I already enjoy the design freedom here. The possibility to get a full commercial license if you are academic staff (like me) is also a incredible advantage. I'm looking forward to designing cool things. Thanks for your videos!

    I've been interested in CAD for a long while. But without much literature at hand, I didn't really know there were various categories of CAD. Begining with Autocad, I realised that it wasn't really for me as it lacked organic 3D modeling capabilities. I moved over to inventor and Creo (Pro/E). Those are very good doe mechanical design but also cumbernsome for organic design. I almost fell for Blender, but realised that though it's good at organic design, it's all subD modelling and its CAD precision input is just an after thought. So that landed me in Rhino which is basically AutoCAD on steroids. Straightforward surfacing capabilites and decent precision input.

    The reason of choice is the very theme what I want to know. Thanks for your video.
    One Question.
    What is the advantage of Rhino over MoI3D ?
    Some people say MoI3D is better than Rhino because it is more user-friendly and you can create a shape more speedy.
    But others say Rhino is better.
    I don't know which is right.
    It would be appreciated if you would tell us topic around these.

      I know one think. Rhino became popular in product related designing. It gives you ability to create simple shapes as well as advance surfacing. I have been wirking with this software since Rhino 4. I have done lots of project with it, done few even for injection moulding too which require precision and analysing of surface quality.

      You are welcome! It is good to know different softwares in case you will not be able to do something in one. Like mechanical parts for example. You will not make it efficiently in Rhino, than Inventor or SolidWorks will be better solution.

    I'm currently using ViaCAD Pro v10, which I've had for a few years or so (late 2016 I think). How would you compare Rhino3D and FormZ Pro v9 (which I'm looking at buying later this year)? Some other UA-camr said about pros and cons of Rhino (which he likes) and in it he mentioned about the con of it crashing with complex models (of large cities or planets of stuff!?) and that the surface modeling in it lacks 'pro level' ability to edit/manipulate it (& whatnot). That was U.. I copied and pasted it back here.. please read on. The response I'm looking for is a few sentences or so along with kinda filling out my form I have in this video (please) I made a while back here: ua-cam.com/video/ABlcJma-hiE/v-deo.html ..has surface, solid, and mesh modeling? has text/dim? has hatching, layers and symbols? etc. Oh, and how much more would it cost for a plug-in in order to get anything it's missing from my list working??

    • @RHINOTUTORIALS
      @RHINOTUTORIALS  4 роки тому

      Hi, I can' be honest because I have never been working with FormZ PRO. I know one thing. Before you buy any software download the trial version of each and see which one fits you. Take also into account how many good tutorials, pieces of training or courses are available at chosen software. Otherwise, if there won't be a lot of good professional ones you will stuck in the middle of nowhere. Also, an important aspect is the ability to export to any known 3D and 2D formats like IGES, STP, STL, DWG, DXF, AI etc. This will help you to get your concepts materialized with 3d printers, CNC machines and other. I am working with Rhino on WIN PC and MAC PC for 10 years. Of course, I had many issues but finally, if you understand 3d surfacing you are making less and less mistakes. Did I help you at all??

    • @kevine1462
      @kevine1462 4 роки тому

      @@RHINOTUTORIALS yes, you did because you reminded me about FormZ Pro's easy clicking ability on each tool to easily bring up help stuff about that specific tool.. and for me, unlike 2D drafting, 3D modeling is very hard to do (in most programs).. I already downloaded and tried their trial version out & yes, I love it, but just trying to make sure Rhino isn't as good (for me at least).. I think Rhino does not come with animation whereas FormZ Pro does & you can put a background image down so as to be able to do photo realistic rendering that way (otherwise it's not photo realistic animation or rendering in FormZ Pro).. I might have to download Rhino on my other SSD boot drive (cuz I'm timed out on this one) and give it one more month or so just to see if the latest version is easier, harder, or otherwise better (in my opinion).. FormZ Pro, considering price (for a hobbyist), is tempting to buy/use to say the least

    @mohi4979 4 роки тому +3

    195 euro as price for version doesn't feel like affordable price for student, especially if we compare it to any software from Autodesk which are TOTALLY FREE . students pay 0 for any software owned by Autodesk!

    • @RHINOTUTORIALS
      @RHINOTUTORIALS  4 роки тому +8

      But with autodesk you are not able to earn money using their free software. As long as you buy credits

    • @PurushNahiMahaPurush
      @PurushNahiMahaPurush 4 роки тому +5

      Thing with Autodesk is that its only free until you are student. When you graduate, you have to pay a shit ton of money. That's how they get you. With Rhino, like he said in the video, your student license carries over as a commercial one. So you can make money if you decide to develop some plugins or do some independent 3d modeling jobs. The license is yours to keep FOREVER! I have not seen a better deal from any other CAD company.
      Then there is scripting. Except for Revit, which is pretty limited (and Rhino integrates with it anyway), please tell me which other CAD software has the option of scripting where you have complete access to essentially the same libraries that Rhino itself uses to do calculations. Maybe FreeCAD but that's about it. Also, scripting is super flexible where you can use block scripting (Grasshopper), Python, C# or a combination of all 3.
      One another big advantage is that with Rhino, if you install visual studio and know C# or C++, almost their entire backend is available to you to use in your plugins. You can create some really complex plugins using that. The development environment is simply unmatched by even Solidworks or CATIA. I absolutely hate companies that charge high prices for the base software and then hide developer documentation behind a paywall or where I have to constantly post questions on their forums and pray to god that someone who knows about it will respond because the documentation sucks. Rhino's documentation and developer features is very open.
