There are a couple moments that stand out to me. The first wen the penguin says "slide". The narrator later says, "to let everything that doesn't truly matter, slide." Finally in the car crash scene when Tyler asks the other guys in the car what they wish they had done in life. One responds, "Build a house" the other "Paint a self-portrait". The self-portrait and the human sacrifice about being a vet aren't "masculine" goals, which so many people miss thinking the movie is judging and pushing someone to be more masculine, it's really about being who you are and understanding your place in the world. The fighting is raw and strips down all of the noise in society to basic survival.
