Eunjeoksa Temple is the oldest Baekje Buddhist temple in Jeollabuk-do. King Gyeongae asked King Taejo of the Goryeo Dynasty for support when the royal family of the late Baekje Kyun-Hyun invaded Silla and the national fortune was in jeopardy. Taejo Wang Geon, who was defeated by Kyun-Hyun in the Communist battle that led the Salvation Army to the dalgubol, escaped and spent three days hiding in the cave of Eunjeoksa Temple. It was difficult to find any trace due to thick fog for three days, and the entrance to the oyster was safely evacuated by a string of spiders. King Taejo later ordered Yeongjo Ambassador Ko Seung to build a temple here and to name it as the place where he hid his life and saved his life at the moment of absolute despair.
