I rode the northbound excursion the day previous, from West Colton yard to Barstow. Before departure the engineer, Ed Dickens, advised us to be aboard our coaches prior to his 5-minute warning. The train was so long that people lollygagging at the locomotive until the very last moment might not make it to their seats.
Another excellent video it amazes me that we did not cross paths when you were at Summit I was at Summit as well but I was by the Union pacific tracks the Palmdale sub if you were in a white SUV then maybe I did see you I was in a black ram 2500 they were predicting winds so I did not take my jeep CJ seven as I have no hard top it started getting crowded so I left there and again following the Palmdale sub I went to Silverwood people and dirt bikes started showing up so I left again when you were at the Mormon rocks I was on the other side of Highway 138 you follow the dirt road by the tracks Pass the dry wash and go to where the trains cross you will see a abandoned box car that’s been cut up from that location you could look down the valley beautiful scenic area the tracks then curve and head under interstate 15 towards hill 582 I think you would enjoy it there heck maybe someday we will run into each other
I should’ve finished watching the film before I made that first comment but that though one hour and 23 minute mark at Sullivans curve off in the distance you can see me in my black truck
That was fun, the best thing and exciting for me to see that Steam Locomotive. 😊😊😊🙂🙂
Thanks for posting!!!
Stupendous !! :-) I counted the 3 locos , 2 tenders and 23 cars , thats what I call a train . Wales UK.
3 tenders. The actual Big Boy tender is black and immediately behind 4014. And that's a very light load for a Big Boy

Lots of diesel freights, almost indistinguishable, until 37:00 where 4014 appears at last!
Sweet shot of the race at 54:50
great video
I enjoyed the UP trains and Big Boy 4014
Too cool man!
Go to 37:00 for the star of the show!
I can't thank you enough
How did you do that shot at 42 minutes - a GoPro between the rails? That was amazing!
39.00 mark for 4014!
Did you just put the camera on a tripod and let it run?
Basically
