Aren't the globes and eggs free redraws with ugin out? So sometimes when ugin is out and you scry them to the bottom its actually incorrect because if you run them out and redraw then you also have emergency sac fodder/mana fixing
Isn't there an argument for topping that golden egg at 41:04? I mean, you had so much mana, it's pretty much 3 life without costing a card. Sure you have to get rid of Tibalt before you can crack it, but with the flyers you'll have it's just a matter of a few turns.
I’ve actually been toying around with an orzhov control list since ravnica allegiance. It primarily used fountain of renewal and I’ll gotten inheritance to stay alive in conjunction with dawn of hope to draw and make blockers. The deck took many forms over the past 6 months and when I saw revenge of ravens I was soooo excited. I think the card I miss the most from my old deck is ixalans binding. That card was sick! Thanks for this stax deck Seth!
Another good deck against the Golos decks is 4 Color Gates. The deck runs 6 anti-zombie wraths main deck (2x Deafening Clarion, 4x Gates Ablaze) - 4 of which also kill Golos. The deck also runs large flyers (4x Hydroid Krasis) and 8 large creatures, 4 of which are unblockable by the zombies (4x Gatebreaker Ram, 4x Gate Colossus). And the deck can keep up with Golos decks in terms of ramp while drawing a lot more cards than them.
I decided since I had most of these cards to make a deck just like this....and holy cow it is fun! I just swapped out a doom fortold for a lilly (because I didn't have enough wildcards). I can see myself playing this deck a ton. Thanks Seth.
So, I don't have all of the wildcards to play this deck exactly as constructed, but I've found Karn to be an amazing addition to the deck; I'm running him instead of the cavalier, as well as a sideboard full of nasty artifacts, and he really helps soooooooo much. I'm basically just locking my opponent down until I'm able to grab Karn, at which point the game is basically sealed 90% of the time
There's a new way to see "budget" when talking about MTG Arena. In the hopes for some events giving rares lands. Also 1º opponent don't know eldraine draft.
Last game, slightly pre-mature scoop?--Could Seth have given himself one more turn to draw a wrath, by using Castle Arvendale to make a chump blocker at instant speed? Or am I missing something?
I'm just looking at the deck list at the start of the video and I'm simultaneously horrified, fascinated, and excited. I don't care what I'm playing, this looks like it would be the most annoying thing to play against. On the other hand, that little, evil part of me wants to torture poor souls with it. Then I remembered Field of the Dead and it suddenly doesn't feel evil to me. More like, "Serves you right, Golos!"
Seth omg this looks so fun! Great content dude. I've been having alot of luck at fnm playing sweepers into bombs in this format. I could see how your enchantment package takes a similar path to victory. This deck feels good
G1 against golos 56:30 I don't think you were dead. If you just played Revenge of Ravens, you're going to gain so much life effectively only taking 8 going down to 3. That doesn't include the knight you get to make as well. Also on T1 of that game, I don't think there is a reason to fetch with Evolving Wilds. Because Castle Locthwain enters tapped, there nothing in the deck you could draw and cast on T2, so it's better to not fetch until the end of T2 before you untap and make it slightly more likely to draw a land. It's small percentages, but that sometimes makes all the difference.
Great vid. I've been playing cards like Cavalier of Dawn (I love artificats) and Revenge of Ravens since their release. It really amazes me how many people just sit around and wait for pros/content creators to build decks. Standard usually has ~1000+ cards at a time and everyone is always so pressed to play the same 3 decks. Come on MTG players, we're more creative than that! I mean, don't you want to build something fun/creative for yourself instead of waiting for someone else to build it for you ? Maybe it's me but I LOVE looking at all the different cards and finding strategies and synergies.
@@lassehansen1580 I understand if you're doing it b/c you're a broke kid, casual player and/or parent with other priorities but I don't think that most MTG players are (I could be wrong). The game isn't necessarily expensive but the cost definitely can add up. Ive been playing MTG for so long that all of the cost are pretty baked in. I knew from MTGO (and the various other platforms that Wizards has tried over the years lol) that I would be coming out anywhere between 100-200 per expansion + w/e I decide to buy in paper. I also don't mind spending money on a losing deck if I'm having fun. I will say this though, Arena/MTGO are great platforms for building/testing decks that you play at GPs/Magicfest.
I have a serious question about running single Island ina deck that has x4 Kaya's Wrath mainboard. That is an odd consideration for a sideboard card such as Unmoored Ego, since you can also cast it with Golden Egg/Guild Globe turn 3. And it could screw you over like it did on 58:54.
Should have played revenge of ravens 58:20 to keep life neutral with opponent. Then doom the following turn or as needed. You had life gain to pull your life total ahead. Love ya though
Awesome deck! I don't understand the main deck island though, just for the sideboard ego. Really got you that first game against Golos. (Keeping the band hand probably didn't help)
Seth, I understand that you're disappointed about the loss versus the MonoRed deck, especially with your insane shutdown at around 39:06 ... but you HAVE to admit, they really pulled through. With the use of Red Chandra and Tibalt, many MANY players would've conceded to you. But this player, *tydogmng* gets my shoutout, for sticking through after having 50% of his deck irrelevant, and 25% of it lands, he stays in the game. YES, His draws were luck, and yours were rough. YES, he didn't actually do much as a red deck. HOWEVER, he didn't leave. He didn't rage quit. He never gave up. It's his perseverance, endurance, and courage which make me believe that he DESERVED that win. He climbed that hill and fought that battle. Also, don't scry-to-bottom Golden Egg when you're flooded. It draws you a card, so you essentially "tuck" it by playing it for 2 mana... and it gains you 3 life. Which would've prolonged the game. You had the mana. And nothing to cast. If you won't play Egg when it's clutch life gain will save you, then just don't play Egg.
If it were me I would add starfield mystic and take out a few 2 mana artifacts that draw cards. Being able to play all of our enchantments 1 turn earlier and having an early threat that grows as the game goes on is huge in my opinion.
Doom Foretold leaves the battle, as does oath of kaya with the legendary rule. If someone is running enchantment removal at least you get a +1+1 counter and if not great you still have all of your enchantments that cost 1 less to cast. So in the worst possible scenario you get grizzly bears that ramp you and in the best case scenario you're getting a game ending threat. With 1/3 of the deck being enchantments starfield mystic is usually going to ending up being a free 2/2 or even better a 2/2/ that costs -1!? -2?! Seems good to me
built a super similar list to this about a week ago and came to a similar conclusion as you Seth. This deck seems very well-positioned against the rest of the current standard meta-game but the Golos Field decks can still just go super over the top with Agent's, Krasis, Fae of Wishes, etc. Maybe post-ban (if that comes to fruition) this deck will be legit, unless a draw-go style control deck manages to come back. All in all was super sweet to watch someone better than me take this archetype for a spin! Any thoughts on Rule of Law?
The game against Golos was the prefect example as to why that deck must go. You built a deck to beat it and still couldn't beat it even after you removed all the Fields. Plenty of hate vs Field but then you just lose to their PWs and creatures once you go out of your way to not lose to Field.
59:36 Revenge of Ravens into Kaya's Wrath into double Oath of Kaya to the face and you'd stabilize, no? Doom foretold even would draw you an extra card to help look for a plains plus an untapped land. - Doom foretold dies (Seth 13 - Opponent 21) - 8 zombies attack, block one (6 - 13) - Kaya's wrath - Opponent creates arbitrary number of zombies - You double Oath of Kaya to the face (12 - 7) Zombies can no longer end the game without killing the opponent first. What I'm I missing?
Yeah, if opponent didn't have another krasis, or a teferi to bounce the revenge seth was still in he game. He didn't really have pressure on the opponent, so they'd most likely still get a winning draw eventually... I think dropping the revenge instead of the doom on the turn before that was a better play too, getting the doom to go off didn't really help much, and is one less response you have if opponent's play is only one permanent like krasis. Revenge makes it so the zombies are basically irrelevant if you maintain you like total equal or higher. Teferi bouncing it before the attack is still a problem though, but the doom foretold proc really doesn't do that much.
I love budget magic alot. It is honestly one of my favorite series on youtube, but i do wish that once in awhile the 'budget' part meant Arena budget. I wouldnt expect you to change the series as a whole because I know it goes against the heart of the series in general, but every now and then, I would like Arena budget. Plz consider @MTGGoldfish.
You kinda threw the last game against Golos by not running out Ashiok and recasting the Enchantments even though he‘s your key board card, so it‘s probable they draw the ramp eventually. Your draw looked perfect against Golos. While at it, am I the only one butthurt by bans again? Just got Golos in Paper for GP Lyon and now they‘ll 99% ban it beforehand with the preponed Announcement. Thanks WotC, would be nice if you could control Powerlevels for once 🙃 Great deck though Seth, keep it up!
Hey Seth, I just thought I would suggest maybe listing the number of wildcards needed to make the deck in Arena on the deck tech portion. Would be nice to see!
I built your list (a little less budget) and it's fun but ... I also lost to Golos ^^. It goes fast, and Teferi gives them a nice polyvalent answer to impactful enchantments. Also this deck is so slow that even against aggro decks it's hard on the draw. But I like it nonetheless :D
I just beat this deck with a version of orzhov aristocrats I made with cauldron familiar. I was honestly surprised he never dropped an ethereal absolution.
MTGGoldfish Then what about the Ugin tokens or the cavaliers. The reason there is that there is value with those. But those turn on removal. Saying the mystics turn on removal when you win with things that can be removed is a little dumb.
So Seth, do you think you can make an against the odds/ much abrew deck with, outlaw's merriment, assemble the legion, divine visitation, and annointed procession?
1. a 4th godless shrine 2. Fabled Passage instead of evolving wilds 3. Hallowed Fountain instead of the Island That's pretty much it? Maybe Legion's End instead of Disfigure in the SB
unmoored ego was ONE turn late that final game >< you kept wanting kaya's wrath but I think you first need ego to rip the agent out of his hand, and THEN still needed a wrath :( tough beats
That's the annoying part about Golos Field. Even if you get rid of Field by playing super specific and bad cards that make you soft to other decks, they have 5 colors and all the answers in the world still available to them. Super resilient, super annoying, kinda does everything. Hate that deck.
I play stax exclusively and idk what you're doing but stax takes a hard loss from simic flash.. 1 cutthroat and 3 counterspells basically wins the game.....
@@Aleph-Noll yeah lol, and if you play BO3 when you face non-creature deck, you insta-remove it. You can see 75% of the times, that card will work. PD: it counters field of the dead.
Believe someone said this but getting rid of their fields with unmoored just makes your revenge's into dead cards. Should prob call golos or krasis to really hinder them and turn off their other wincons
So I built this and have run 0/4 vs Golos so far. They have started packing 4x Agent of Treachery, so they just yoink the absolutions/revenge of ravens for a realllll bad time. that deck does not give any shits about ANYTHING.
I think that there’s an argument to be made to Unmoored Ego away the Agent instead of Field when your deck is so laden with hate for go-wide strategies.
I've been saying Ethereal Absolution is the best way to shut down Field of the Dead ever since rotation but no one listened which was actually fine for me since people didn't run that much enchantment removal to deal with Ethereal Absolution. Now I'm going to have to deal with people running enchantment removal for Ethereal Absolution. Wizards where's my Greater Auramancy reprint to protect my enchantments?
@@MTGGoldfish Yeah, it feels like people have kind of forgotten about Ethereal Absolution for some reason despite it being really strong right now. As for Agent of Treachery, maybe Wizards will print some protection for enchantments next set. I mean it IS Theros after all.
edit : how about Lazotep plating instead of Unmoored ego? When your deck is build to fight Golos' army of 2/2, is it really worth it to take Field of the dead with Unmoored ego ?.. I suppose not, considering how the last game went.
@@rmanzero However you don't know for sure what sideboard cards your opponent is going to bring so it's not that easy for the first Unmoored ego. (well except if all Golos deck run Agent, I don't know..)
DarkThomy my thought is that most conventional threats kinda get dealt with by the ravens/absolution lock, and Agent is the main thing that can break it. It’s also pretty common in Bant Golos, but obviously we have the benefit of hindsight here.
@@DarkThomy It's okay. The issue is that the Golos Deck is too consistent and has access to too many potential sideboard options in the 5 color variants.
can we really reliably beat field of the dead when they play 2-3 agents of treachery? agent of treachery on ethereal absolution is the most crushing board swing imaginable against that deck lol
On the first field of the dead match, wouldn't dropping revenge be better at that spot where you dropped the doom? Sure it procced immediately, but not much is gained from that... I'd say resolving the revenge there would be better, it kinda reverses the clock with 2/2s, so the field is actually useless if they can't get to a higher life total than you. Sure it was still probably a loss, but i think it'd be better Probably wouldn't even bother unmooring field too... Since the deck in general is so good against it. Agent, teferi and krasis seem like way worse threats for the deck. I think you overfought field and just lost to their other threats. Golos field is so good because it can play all colours and the best threats and answers from all colours. Naming agent with unmoored and dealing with field with revenge and absolution seem like a better plan to me
This is Budget Magic in which Seth tries to build a deck with a paper budget of around $100.00 USD: 4 copies of Fabled Passage would be about $40.00 USD. Probably a solid upgrade though.
YES!! REVENGE OF RAVENS!! This card is secretly one of the most busted cards in ELD limited. One is very hard to beat and two + is basically impossible. Dis gin’ be gud tho no tax archon is a little disappointing.
I think we needed to kill the Dragon to kill one planeswalker by attacking and get the other with Doom Foretold (If I'm remembering the situation right).
Trying to build an anti-Golos deck and beating everything but Golos has been my experience with this Standard, too.

Since we don't have any other creatures it just turns on our opponent's removal which would otherwise we dead.
MTGGoldfish
Then what about the Ugin tokens or the cavaliers. The reason there is that there is value with those. But those turn on removal. Saying the mystics turn on removal when you win with things that can be removed is a little dumb.
This would have been a good opportunity for Kaya Tribal.
So Seth, do you think you can make an against the odds/ much abrew deck with, outlaw's merriment, assemble the legion, divine visitation, and annointed procession?
Ohh, sounds like it could be fun!
I need an non-budget version of this deck.
1. a 4th godless shrine
2. Fabled Passage instead of evolving wilds
3. Hallowed Fountain instead of the Island
That's pretty much it? Maybe Legion's End instead of Disfigure in the SB
Dawn of Hope would be a great addition I'd think? Or even Divine Visitation?
Ditto Ill Gotten Inheritance lol
Visitation is a terrible magic card, forget it exists
do the esper version too
Dance of the Manse, right?
unmoored ego was ONE turn late that final game >< you kept wanting kaya's wrath but I think you first need ego to rip the agent out of his hand, and THEN still needed a wrath :( tough beats
That's the annoying part about Golos Field. Even if you get rid of Field by playing super specific and bad cards that make you soft to other decks, they have 5 colors and all the answers in the world still available to them. Super resilient, super annoying, kinda does everything. Hate that deck.
9:42 It's funny you say that as stax is the last deck I want to see across from me when I play flash.
I play stax exclusively and idk what you're doing but stax takes a hard loss from simic flash.. 1 cutthroat and 3 counterspells basically wins the game.....
@@sjdhrjrjejdhdhsh Huh, when I play against stax it just feels like every card from turn 3 onwards is a "counter or you lose the game" type of card.
@@Atmapalazzo by that time you should be doing 3 to 4 damage a turn.
i love revenge of ravens on my primate deck
yeah its such a cheesy card bc the majority of decks in the meta is high volume creatures
With all these enchantments doesn’t this deck want starfield mystic. Feel free to tell me why I’m wrong.
It is really good, unless it gets stolen by Agent of Treachery...
@@MTGGoldfish
Yeah, it feels like people have kind of forgotten about Ethereal Absolution for some reason despite it being really strong right now.
As for Agent of Treachery, maybe Wizards will print some protection for enchantments next set. I mean it IS Theros after all.
Watching him play this deck makes me want to brew so badly 😂
What would be "Upgrades" for a nonbudget Version? I Don't realy see one
OK. The new fetchland instead wilds probably
Read the article in the description.
edit : how about Lazotep plating instead of Unmoored ego?
When your deck is build to fight Golos' army of 2/2, is it really worth it to take Field of the dead with Unmoored ego ?..
I suppose not, considering how the last game went.
DarkThomy I was thinking that too, it might have been a better choice to cut the Agents.
@@rmanzero Then maybe Unmoored ego isn't a good sideboard card at all against Golos..?
Maybe Final payment or Tale's end ?
@@DarkThomy It's okay. The issue is that the Golos Deck is too consistent and has access to too many potential sideboard options in the 5 color variants.
anti golos deck that can beat anything besides golos, sums up standard format pretty much.
The 75 could probably use a few T3feris.
First game 8:33
Much appreciated!
Thanks
Doom foretold is such a sweet card but is super ineffective against Oko sadly
Yeah, Oko and Teferi end up ruining a lot of fun cards.
can we really reliably beat field of the dead when they play 2-3 agents of treachery? agent of treachery on ethereal absolution is the most crushing board swing imaginable against that deck lol
Thank you for the upload, but I have to ask... Why is this called prison? Makes no sense to me, but I'm sure I'm missing something.
Because as an opponent, nothing you do can progress you towards victory, and your plays are rendered useless. This is Requi... Prison!
Basically since we're trying to lock the opponent (especially their creatures) out of the game with Ethereal Absolutions and Revenge of Ravens.
See! I knew I was missing something! Thank you for the explanation!
I believe it is also a nod to the card Ghostly Prison, which was a deck that used to be a pretty rough deck to go against back in the day.
Nobody surprised the Simic Flash player was just damn stupid? Guess we all know by now
"Simic Flash player" level of stupid.
I mean, they are playing Simic Flash ;)
Do you think the website makes a lot of money?
Awesome deck but I have a hard time imagining this winning from mono blue mill.
Sure it was still probably a loss, but i think it'd be better
Probably wouldn't even bother unmooring field too... Since the deck in general is so good against it. Agent, teferi and krasis seem like way worse threats for the deck. I think you overfought field and just lost to their other threats. Golos field is so good because it can play all colours and the best threats and answers from all colours. Naming agent with unmoored and dealing with field with revenge and absolution seem like a better plan to me
Why evolving wilds instead of fabled passage?
This is Budget Magic in which Seth tries to build a deck with a paper budget of around $100.00 USD: 4 copies of Fabled Passage would be about $40.00 USD. Probably a solid upgrade though.
@@emjackson81989 oh I didn't realize fabled passage was a rare, I thought it was a common. That makes sense lol
@@violet_broregarde I wish it was a common... Or even uncommon. Hopefully, the price will come down the the $5.00 USD to $7.00 USD range soon.
YES!! REVENGE OF RAVENS!! This card is secretly one of the most busted cards in ELD limited. One is very hard to beat and two + is basically impossible. Dis gin’ be gud tho no tax archon is a little disappointing.
i mess up casting murderous rider probably 50% of the time
Losing to the deck that you built against, while your opponent continues to miss play for multiple turns. Good times.
It's like Seth's and Vince's Bears (capital B) have merged into one glorious, staxing entity
which is still inferior to Crim's Beard.
The problem with the golos match-up is that your deck is mostly designed to beat field of the dead. It isn't that good against their other finishers.
"When cavalier of dawn etb destroy UP TO one target nonland permanent." It never has to shrek itself lol that woulld be massive feelsbad.
Man I wish I could find your opponenets when i'm playing arena. They are all really bad ....
Hate to break it to you maybe youre not making strong decisions
Seth using resources to kill sarkham dragon and other token so opponent sacrificies "key" permanents.. You cant sacrifice tokens to doom foretold
I think we needed to kill the Dragon to kill one planeswalker by attacking and get the other with Doom Foretold (If I'm remembering the situation right).
Why is this deck playing Evolving Wilds instead of Fabled Passage?
Budget Magic, technically. (too many rares too for Arena
Budget Magic goes off real life prices and mtgo and Fabled Passage would add $30 to the deck.
Budget.
I'm playing a esper control home brew on arena right now, and I do quite well.
But I lose to this deck all the time. It's just too grindey
Seth wins $5 on a lottery ticket and brags he won a million dollars
what does tix means
Tix are basically dollars on Magic Online. One ticket costs $1.
Imagine losing ONLY to the one deck you set out to beat :(
A little more aggro sticking in sideboard never Hurt 😂!
I'd like Seth to start making budget decks in Arena sense
he does, recently did mono blue mill which I believe only has 4 rares
I try to slip some in. Unfortunately, I don't think there are enough semi-competitive decks that are budget in arena terms to support a weekly series.
I need a shower after watching this
So happy this deck can beat that absolute cancer simic flash is
so Seth makes a deck to counter golos, and loses only to golos, guess that says something about golos?
Yeah, seems like it might end up getting banned on monday.
I heard theres a new deck to make people cry?
I'm trying.
I know and I love you for this
Also, have you seen Kannister's standard 'dredge' list?
If you adjust the mana base, it should be budget
