I agree with most of your video here, but I will add an alternative point of view and one more lesson. ( Photo purest that believe in collecting the image you want in camera can disregard the rest of this comment. I respect your choice as well )
I will start with the lesson I learned, "Take the time to continue to perfect your post-processing, and collect all the information you can at a shoot." Your point of not trying to get an image totally sharp front to back as well as the detail in the water of waterfalls would illustrate this. If you take the time to collect enough images to focus stack, then in post processing you have all the info to focus stack or allow the correct softness where you want. If you collect multiple exposures with different water texture, then you have enough information to blend the correct texture to your best exposure. Finally, the time put into learning image editing will allow you to take all that information to create the image that your mind perceived at the moment you clicked the shutter.

Thanks Jim! I don’t disagree with this approach at all. Especially just starting out. But I’ve found that there are a lot of photographers that find that “stressing” about those things takes away from the experience and creative process. My wife knows how to focus stack/exposure blend etc, but she hates all the faff that it involves. I try to make the point that “sometimes” it’s ok for it not to be perfectly sharp throughout. Either way is not right or wrong, but with experience, having the wisdom to decide on how to shoot any specific scene based on your style or creative decisions makes for a better experience.

I'm thinking that the tree at 3:37 is the one that Chris shared with Thomas Heaton on her first trip to Patagonia with BvS. Good advice here, but the best advice is "Get out there and shoot."~Bryan Peterson. 🙄🙄Cheers! 👍🥂
