Love your content, hate the loud music.
Yes. This music makes me feel like I'm supposed to take peyote and trip out to an eagle showing me my destiny..
Background music should background (far to loud)... Should not compete with your audio, I had to Fast Forward.
My ears are bleeding
Music was good. Just need to lower it a tad. It. Otherwise great job man. Video was informative for me. Thanks.
Thanks for the info👍🏻That's not music people, that's spiritual healing, spread the love Black Owl😉
For someone who is just looking into this, you created a great video. Thanks for the comprehensive info and explanation of the tools you use.
Lower music volume and better the camera job and this is pure gold!
Excellent! Loved the native music...set the tone....yes decrease volume, but keep the feel. Great beginner overview for me! Thank you!
Thanks for the tips. Really enjoyed the flute music too
Thank you for your intro to leather working! The music was fine 👌
Best leatherworking video I'm seen for beginners. Thank you.
I think you will have much better results if you use a diamond-shaped stitching awl instead of that round scratch awl.
Yes! Excellent information. Now all I need is the patience to get as good as you.
Survival On Purpose What leather projects have you tackled thus far?
Just one really ugly knife sheath for an Old Hickory.
These sheaths look expertly crafted!!
Thank you for also sharing some of you earlier work and pointing our some of the issues you experienced at the time.
Awesome video. Im a firefighter and I want to start making custom leather fire helmet shields. Totally felt at peace during this video, awesome music!
David DiPonzio You're welcome. Let me know if you have any questions. -Krik
Oh man, what a neat video, i love it. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Never worked with leather but am looking into it and now after watching your video I can't wait to get started... Music is awesome... Thanxsies.. Susan x
Thanks guys for posting this video. I started my own journey into leather working about a month ago and this video provided exactly the info I am needing at this point. Keep up the GREAT work!!!
Stratguy83 You're welcome. Let me know if you have any leather related questions. -Krik
Even if you film indoors, in a garage, or under a tarp in the backyard, it is still a project to prepare for an outdoor adventure.
I would enjoy seeing your wet form process. Everyone does it a little different, and it would be great to see your methods and learn from your experience.
Great video and content. Thanks for demonstrating what each tool's function is.
Had "leatherworking shop" in a public school about 40 years ago and never used that knowledge, but now I'm refreshing to embark upon some custom leather belt projects for some sterling buckles.
Your videos are a great help sir. I've recently taken up the art myself, and this particular one is very informative, and has answered just about everything I had hoped to find an in depth answer to.
Thanks for taking the time to put this together. Cheers good buddy!
"Could you give it a damn break sir I'm trying to record a video here!"
*neighbor stops playing flute and heads inside"
Lol
The rake you are describing is usually called a pricking iron. They can be used to simply mark the stitch line or some people actually drive it through to make the stitch holes.
Thank you for the content. I know now what to get.
The most important one is the awl, and for a clean project you use beveler. Thank you for the content once again.
Thank you so much. You did a great job describing the basics.
Thank you very much for this video! Been thinking on starting to do some leatherworking and collecting info about techniques and tools to use and it was really handy to see the how the tools are actually used.
Great info, great music! Thanks for the intro info I am enthused because of it!!
Thanks for posting this video. I've a list of items I'd like to make, you've made the choosing of tools so much easier. I can go back into the store now and make some sense as to what I'm looking at. So glad you are both sharing your knowledge. Thank you
Susan O'Brien You're welcome. Best of luck with your leather projects!
Thanks really helped me build a list of tools to start learning the trade.
You're a good teacher. Great vid, thanks Krik.
Great video. You’re very kind to make such a straight forward tutorial to get started. By the way love the flutist!
Just getting started, glad I watched, very informative. Love the flutes.
Some nice stuff you made there.
I can highly recommend the use of pricking irons. They make it much easier to get nice and constant stitch lines and they make your saddle stitch look even nicer, too.
321berber Yea, I'm waiting to find the ones for me. After I drill the stitching holes, I'll prepare the stitching bed with the over stitch wheel. It makes a difference. Thanks for the suggestion. -Krik
Great video Krik thankyou. Answered so many questions for the beginner. Looking forward to watching some more
Loved the video and I appreciate you taking your time to properly name and demonstrate the instruments are tools. I've seen a few others where they whip through all the stuff real quick is if someone like me knows what you're talking about LOL
I’m considering beginning leather work. This was an excellent introduction. Thank you!
Great coincidence. i was making a gift for my wife out of leather yesterday and i was thinking i needed to learn more about it. Thanks for the video.
excellent video truly enjoyed it lots helpful tips on tools. thanks for sharing
I'm just getting started with leather crafting and I really enjoyed your video
Nice video of your tool collection, thanks for sharing it with us.
I really dig the video. Inspires me to get started! The wet-molded lighter case is cool, seems like an easy project to start with.
Timothy Bradley I don't think any of the projects I showed were too difficult. The skill is in the details. Best of luck with your leather endeavors! - Krik
Excellent introduction. Thank you.
I use diamond shaped awls and I sharpen them on a set of Japanese water stones. The down side is they make grooves in your stone. Sandpaper will work fine also. It takes time and patience but it is worth the effort. I think you can watch one of Nigel Armitage's videos on UA-cam.
Outstanding video brother! I’m considering leatherwork to compliment my knife making. I appreciate you taking the time to help novices!
Dude good info but turn the music down while your talking
+Tim Stout I agree, the video is supergood and informativ but the flute is ruining it...
Yep, the music is overwhelming. I dropped out after about two minutes, as I couldn't take it anymore
I like the music, it's calming.
music too loud
Good video with good information but after that music I feel I should be a Shaolin Monk now.
Thank you great introduction to leather tools
Great video, thanks for putting it up. Now I am even more tempted to try making my own sheath for my Mora. Cheers!
+benjatronic It's not really that difficult to make a functional sheath. The difficult part is making it look how you want it. Ha.
Black Owl Outdoors Definitely. With any project I start there's a big question of how big the gap will be between what I imagine, and what I end up with is ;)
Thanks for sharing your knowledge ..Cheers
that would be an awesome skill to master! Love the demo thanks for posting!
Excellent explanation about this, one of the best on youTube. thanks guys for taking the time
Great video thx for sharing this...I'm looking to start some leather work so this helps me out big time
Very nice intro video. Thank you for taking the time to do this.

Thanks 's for the video. This answers a few questions. You explained things all well and would like to see more. Weither it be filmed outside or not is your choice, whatever you are more comfortable with.
Dude make more leather craft videos. Basic ones like making a belt or a bracelet and the tools you will need. This is awesome channel, I subscribed!
Thank you, nice work too !
Thank You for the informative video. I'm interested in basic leather work and this is the first video I've watched.
Absolutely brilliant video guys, i'm going to be learning leatherwork in the new year so this information helped a lot. Many thanks for putting this together ~Peace~
Zed Outdoors No problem Zed. Let me know if you have any leather related questions. Leather is fun to work with, but very unforgiving. Each mistake is pretty much permanent. -Krik
Great Video. Really helped me a lot.
Very helpful. Thank you!
I found this video very helpful thank you.
Sir thank you so much for this video.
Great video showing some of the tools in action. It's always fun to see your finished projects. Thanks for sharing guys. :) - Chris
thanks for the information, I want to start this as a hobby but havent even bought any tools yet . so ths was great. I will probably start with the card/money holder ! lol
Great job and Great Job THANK YOU
Very informative thanks for doing this video!
That first bushcraft blade that you showed after the glass jar cover that you made the sheath for looks remarkably like a MOD survival type 3 knife that the British army use
Am I the only one that sees the old "wooden" Indian in the backgrond at the first of vid pulling an arrow out of his quiver?
I didn't see it until reading your comment but yeah, you're right....it does look like that! lol
Awesome video.. Very clear.
Great video! Thanks!
Great video, thank you!
Really enjoyed this video and looking forward to the next one on leahter craft! Good job BlackOwlOutdoors!
Wouter6431 Thank you kindly. Are there any specifics you'd like to see in future videos? -Krik
BlackOwlOutdoors A step-by-step video showing how to make that beautiful sheath of yours would be interesting to watch. Apart from the leather crafting, I was wondering that after all the gear the two of you have tested and examined, it would be nice to see some "general advice/buying guides/how to choose a.." videos. Explaining the things to watch out for when buying, let's say, a knive, a trekking shirt or a hard shell jacket. Just an idea :) I've already bought stuff in the past after watching your videos and those items turned out perfect for me, so I trust your judgement.
Excellent video to help people getting into leatherworking. :)
Great video, many thanks.....!
Enjoyed your video. Very well done.
Very helpful, thank you.
Thanks
Great video I am definitely thinking about getting into leather working now good music just a little softer. Looking forward to some more videos.
Thank you! My first leather tools are on the way and I can't wait (well I have to but...) to start using them. Very informative for a newb like me! :-) /Andreas, Sweden
Just starting out, making leather sheaths for my chisels to protect the blades on them. I use old heavy leather belts, like weight lifting belts. I visit the thrift stores and look for leather items to recycle. Leather is expensive. Still I am not good at it but I am getting better.
Another place where you can get some fairly nice cheap leather is at Harbor Freight. They are selling a leather welders apron for $10.99 list or $8.79 if you have a discount coupon. It has at least 5 or 6 square feet of fairly nice leather that is about 1/16 inch thick or what Tanday calls 4 ounce. I assume that it is cowhide. It is nice and soft and is easy to work with. Since it is brand new it is nice and clean.
Thank you.
Nice leather work my friend!
Awesome video. I've been searching YT on leather work for the last week now. It's something I've been wanting to get into. Please make a video on how to construct something simple like a leather tinder pouch. Even tho your channel is a outdoors channel I wouldn't mind seeing you do video's indoors. Thanks for the upload.
LOADEDF1ST You're welcome. It seems a lot of folks wish to see more leather videos. So we may have to create an indoor filming space. Thanks for watching. -Krik
BlackOwlOutdoors you should get an amazon store and give us some links. You made the video and taught me a lot, I would buy the tools you recommend
The video has got some countryside feel to emphasise the handmade product contrast with factory made products. The other nature sounds supplement the countryside feel, the music too is countryside flute or something, sometimes heard in meadows or in the mountains here in India. Better to use than studio music. Very very good superimposition of sound, light and landscape with the main content.
great intro video i am just getting into it and this was very help full best wishes from over here in the uk ,,,pat
Thanks, very informative.
Great work! Keep it up!
Can you make videos on how you make card holders and molded lighter cases cause I'm new to leather work and love your videos
Enjoyed the video. Thx.
awesome!!
Dope video, I was just curious the other day, and found this awesomeness
Excellent intro to leather working and the tools. If possible some trail side repair of leather gear would be good. Keep up the good work. atb Krik
Great video , very interesting, love the Native American Flute music,
Very informative.
My favorite way of cutting leather is with an xacto knife. I lay the piece on stiff carpet and cut with the edge up, levering it through on the tip. It is fast and accurate for me.
whoohw so geest, now you have make me totally into leatherwork
great*
Great intro Bro. I really enjoyed it.
I really liked this video. I would also like to see more. I've taken the basic class @ Tandy and some how to videos from your channel will be the push I need to get started. Please do more.
What did they teach you at Tandy?
BlackOwlOutdoors The class went REALLY fast. Everything from selecting leather, stitching, stamping, cutting, dying, tooling, and more. There was one person there taking the class for the second time. It was really hard to absorb all the info. Unfortunately the nearest Tandy to me is a two hour drive. I think I might go again over the winter when there isn't much else to do. I like your channel and have shared it on my Facebook page. Keep up the good work. Doug
Thanks so much for this video, I am looking to get in to leather work. I really like you showing the tools and some of the basics. If you could do a video on actually making something that would be great.
Alan Gastler We may do that in the future. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask! -Krik
cool thank you
