I think you will have much better results if you use a diamond-shaped stitching awl instead of that round scratch awl.

Even if you film indoors, in a garage, or under a tarp in the backyard, it is still a project to prepare for an outdoor adventure.

The rake you are describing is usually called a pricking iron. They can be used to simply mark the stitch line or some people actually drive it through to make the stitch holes.

I use diamond shaped awls and I sharpen them on a set of Japanese water stones. The down side is they make grooves in your stone. Sandpaper will work fine also. It takes time and patience but it is worth the effort. I think you can watch one of Nigel Armitage's videos on UA-cam.

BlackOwlOutdoors A step-by-step video showing how to make that beautiful sheath of yours would be interesting to watch. Apart from the leather crafting, I was wondering that after all the gear the two of you have tested and examined, it would be nice to see some "general advice/buying guides/how to choose a.." videos. Explaining the things to watch out for when buying, let's say, a knive, a trekking shirt or a hard shell jacket. Just an idea :) I've already bought stuff in the past after watching your videos and those items turned out perfect for me, so I trust your judgement.

Just starting out, making leather sheaths for my chisels to protect the blades on them. I use old heavy leather belts, like weight lifting belts. I visit the thrift stores and look for leather items to recycle. Leather is expensive. Still I am not good at it but I am getting better.

Another place where you can get some fairly nice cheap leather is at Harbor Freight. They are selling a leather welders apron for $10.99 list or $8.79 if you have a discount coupon. It has at least 5 or 6 square feet of fairly nice leather that is about 1/16 inch thick or what Tanday calls 4 ounce. I assume that it is cowhide. It is nice and soft and is easy to work with. Since it is brand new it is nice and clean.

The video has got some countryside feel to emphasise the handmade product contrast with factory made products. The other nature sounds supplement the countryside feel, the music too is countryside flute or something, sometimes heard in meadows or in the mountains here in India. Better to use than studio music. Very very good superimposition of sound, light and landscape with the main content.
